Kojima concedes he may stay with Metal Gear for fifth game - Image 1Here's some good news for Hideo Kojima fans out there. Remember how the Metal Gear creator said that Guns of the Patriots was his last project in the series? Well, he might come back for the fifth game after all.

In a recent interview with Kikizo, Kojima finally admitted that he might continue to act as producer for future games in the series:

When we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series.

I always intend to stay true to these statements; I do always say what I actually feel at that time, after each Metal Gear, when I say I am going to move on to the next project. But itÂ’s like when Hayao Miyazaki says he is not going to do more, and then always ends up doing it.

If you are unfamiliar with Miyazaki (heathen!), he is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, and the director of many popular anime films such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.

*Minor update* Oh, and it was Kojima's birthday on August 24. He is now 45 years old. A belated happy birthday to one of gaming's living legends.

he is a legend and i want him to be a part of mgs5.

by kupomogli - 2008-08-25 07:38
» Like always.

Kojima said this on MGS3 also, and then look what happened.

"Oh yeah, MGS4 will really be the finally one I make."

Next thing you know he'll say he's not going to make another Metal Gear after MGS5, but then he'll once again say he'll stay on again.

i dont think there will be a "MGS" 5, but maybe a "MGR" 5 or something, cuz MGS4 marked the end of Solid Snake...

» Well well...

I bought the collectors edition because I thought this was the last of Kojima on Metal Gear. Ah well, it was worth it.

Honestly, if they do a metal gear in the same time frames that MGS covered it wouldn't/can't be as good as the Solid line of events - with that in mind, going more futuristic than MGS4 would also turn me off.

Let's go back to 1886.

(well, he never did say he was a miyazaki fan, but that's close enough for me!!!)

what if he made a spinoff? imagine what he would do if he created a Metal Gear Howl. like whoa! metal gear robots, only done in steampunk miyazaki style. HEARTS ALL OVER!!! or maybe... mononoke gear solid! hahaha! because a*****aka's demon arm is the result of a foxdie mutation! haha win!

happy birthday hideo kojima! you'll forever be my hero! XD

» Let me guess, trigger.

Trigger, let me just make some wild guesses here...

You use Gaia Online or Deviantart, think it would be awesome to know Japanese, laugh at mudkips and/or longcat without knowing what they are, watch Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece, and probably have drawn some anime fanart.

Am I correct?

Making video games is a hell of a drug.

» @ AsunaNegi

oh please. don't try to fit me into that stereotype. you assume too much. and yes, those are some pretty wild guesses you made there, buddy.

i thoroughly despise anything and everything naruto, bleach or one piece. especially naruto - that godforsaken anime where all they do is jump around in forests. makes my brain turn into soup.

i don't do anime fanart and don't own an account for gaia online or deviant art.

and what does it matter if anyone knew about the mudkip or longcat. a mudkip is a pokemon, and longcat is a long cat - what else is there to know about?

sorry AsunaNegi. just because i'm a ghibli fan doesn't mean i wallow in the same dregs of society of narutards and other manga spawns from hell. cheers.

nice comeback trigger... AsunaNegi... don't stereotype, everyone's different in there own way, if you stereotype... you lose

Hopefully he makes a better next game.

Don't get me wrong, MGS4 had high production values but IMO he made the game needlessly suffer.

We've kind of grown past having dictorial and linear cutscenes. It's a shame he hasn't played Half Life 2, where the player can move and alter cutscenes as they happen within the gameplay, not outside of it. Plus it might help if they brought an editor in to remove the reems of unecessary dialogue.

The closest to perfect in MGS has been the Twin Snakes. They edited the cutscenes and dialogue so they were necessary and not disposable, whilst retaining a gripping (and best) MG story.

If there was to be a MGS5 I hope he takes note and not just carry on with the same, as the current formula is broken (and going off the now trailing sales figures it's not just me thinking this, after the hype this is left).

Well, depends really. Ryan Payton says that this is not the end of the "Solid" series and the next game might be a prequal following the story of Big Boss. Maybe its just another PSP title, or an actual PS3 game, either way you cant be too sure on it being "S" or "R". Kojima also said that they'll need a new Snake for the next game, so if is "new" its not really likely to be Raiden anyway.

by chessboxer - 2008-08-26 01:19
» well

Kojima has always said that there is nothing to stop the next game being a prequel which would give more info on Big Boss, so Snake could very well be in out.

This will more likely be the case than having Raiden as the main character.
