Ed Boon says Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter ran into a road block

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon - Image 1Road blocks. We run into them from time to time in this game called life. When that happens, we often just change course. Such was the case with Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. He had originally wanted to make a Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game, but he ran into...you guessed it: road blocks.

Boon said that he had tried contacting Capcom about working on a crossover game involving the two fighting franchises. Even then, the distance problem (Capcom is in Japan) made for a bit of a  communication gap. Ultimately, thing's didn't quite pan out.

Despite the disappointing turn of events, Boon is still very much excited about the Midway crossover game that will be pushing through: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. As he put it:

I've always wanted to cross MK over since about MK4, or something like that. I'm a big fan of all of the other fighting games, Street Fighter, Tekken, what not. I always thought, wouldn't it be cool to have MK vs. SF and MK vs. Tekken and what not. We pursued some of those ideas to the extent that we could but we always ran into some kind of road block and couldn't do it.

mk vs killer instinct

mk vs primal rage would be just a blast. I would like to see how Goro vs Sauron be like while kept in real scale (yeah, that dot.. you see that dot on the screen? That is Goro... look closer)

those games suck, that's why they don't exist anymore

clayfighter 63 1/3 was already a moral kombat parody (a very crappy one)

i deleted shaq fu from my list as i was joking, i hated it. ah the days when basketball stars had their own games...

clay fighter was good for a break from the serious tone of other fighters at the time. however i agree, the last one wasn't as good as the first 2.

i had forgotten about primal rage, that would be an awesome combo.

killer instinct would be good aswell, it was the only real competition for MK in the ultra violent category.

i would sooner spend $60 on a game that had characters from most of the games of the golden age of fighting games, than GTA9/4 or whatever they are calling it....

Dude, Clayfighter... major flashback right here. I could remember bustin' my thumbs playing that game (as I did with Killer Instinct - hehehe, Cinder was my fave). Absolute BLISS!
