EA Tells Sony to Pick it up on PSP!

It's no surprise to many PSP owners that EA has told Sony to pick up the performance and delivery of the Playstation Portable. The handheld was seen as success early on, but after the Nintendo has stolen the thunder from Sony with the NDSL, they are in their worst position yet. The PSP doesn't even know what it is from the recent announcements of a camera attachment, GPS capability and even more non-gaming features. The PSP is not just a gaming system anymore and as a result - lost some of it's gaming power as a system.

EA's executive VP and COO of worldwide studios, David Gardner, has stated that Sony needs to address some issues with the PSP immediately if they wish for EA's support. After seeing the success of the NDS over the PSP, David Gardner said that "EA is putting more effort behind DS games Â– and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware.Â” So, with their focus on the NDS now, will the PSP dig deeper into its grave? That is something that only Sony can decide as they have been told to address their issues.

I just dont see it. PSP sales have been picking up alot here lately due to some great releases. The japan sales have been increasing every week as of late. And we are finally seeing psp games in the top 10 on a regular basis! I think Maybe EA should just release better titles instead of 2002-2003-2004-2005-2006, well you get the picture, versions of games, and stop putting thier bad sales off on others. I am not an EA fan so I am being deffensive anyway. I mean I am a sony fanboy, but enen I cant deny that the DS is owning in hardware and software sales. The psp is by no mean a failure though. Look at what it has accomplished! Sony is making money off it. Hardware Sales are up and will continue to climb. We will see more titles in the top 10 more often. We will see a psp2 in 3 or 4 years.

Who cares if DS sales 10 million more! Heh even 20 million more. PSP is a huge success. Get over it EA. Maybe by the time you remake madden 2056 you will see this.

I find it kinda dumb...EA are condemning sony for expanding the usage horizon for the PSP. That is exactly what makes the psp sell so much...i mean, the more the features, the more useful people will find it and hence it will sell more.

And about EA concentrating more on the NDSL, i'd really like to see what games they pull out for it. Imagine what some of the games would look like...i'm not trying to diss the DS, but its not exactly the most graphically advanced handheld system - atleast when compared to the psp.

Because they single handedly MAKE developers work tough on their games, simply because of the touch screen. Game publishers need to step up so that they can put the touch screen as it's top priority.

PSP doesn't really have any gimmicks that actually help it coming into today. All they have is what was mention, sloppy firmware upgrades, and updates persisting to other things than games.

Who buys a DS to play sports games. You can not tell me you'd rather play football on DS because of its 2 screens or touch screen that contribute nothing to gameplay. Perhaps if they mean their not sports related titles then there is a bit of validity, but we all know EA makes their money on their sports franchises. I know I wouldn't wish to play any sports titles on a DS over a PSP.

The only reason why EA might not be able ot make money off their sports game are because they DONT MAKE GOOD GAMES and espeically the yearly thing which does get annoying. I have to agree with the people, i dont see myself playing any sports game on a DS. The graphics are not that good and i dont see myslef using the touch screen to pick a move. But for any other type of game i enjoy the DS. The PSP has a lot to offer and i see more PSP's being sold everyday and im starting to see the amazing line-up of upcomming games for the PSP, so i dont think Sony is doing anything wrong.

EA doesn't ever innovate. They merely produce the same thing someone else already has for years and call it special.

The main thing hurting the PSP is its own lack of innovation. The touch screen on the DS doesn't seem like much, and isn't much of an innovation (PDAs have had them for years) but they managed to make devs think of new ways to play games, and even a few games that are completely new and rely on the touchscreen. I think that's great. PSP's greatest innovation? It plays movies on discs that you can't copy or create, and only those movies. -yawn-

I personally havnt bought an 'EA' game since the year 2000, and that game was madden 2001. I have rented a few times... but the games stay relatively the same every year. well...iv had my psp for about a year and a half...i use it for my music(walk to class, on the bus, plane, watever), iv watched tons of movies on it(at my gf's house when we cant really turn on the tv, plane etc), run homebrew on it(snes, nes, neogeo,sega, radio, gps, ddr, lua(chuck norris jokes!!!) etc), and recently i ACTUALLY STARTED PLAYING PSP GAMES ON IT! look ill b the first one to say that the games on the psp have sucked balls, but as of late some really good games have been comin out; tekken, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth are two to name a few...the few...watever... it looks like the psp is FINALLY becoming a gaming system! so i have no idea wat EA is talking about but they can stop making games for the psp all together as far as im concerned...lets see how many top ten games they release...losers

Maybe if EA would quit putting out sports games with game killing bugs then I would take them seriously.

Madden 06 had to be totally replaced with a new disk, NCAA 07 has a running glitch that requires patching, and the load of times games such as Tiger Woods are atrocious.

Sony is delivering in my opinion with some top notch games and a heck of a nice system. EA need to get off their arses and make games that aren't filled with bugs. I love both the PSP and the DS and am having great amounts of fun on my PSP without EA's games.

I dont blaim people for not buying EA's game as they suck and get repetitive, but i think one way for EA to make their games bought by us is to put an overflow exploit in the save game or something. Thats what I was going to say. Instead of EA telling Sony to fix their problems, may EA should start addressing problems in their games, Like Madden 06 bug and the NCAA 07 running glitch, as mention from Jaffy.

Also they should focus on making original games on both handheld systems. Also I don't understand how they can say they are putting "more effort behind DS games" if I don't know any decent EA games on the DS. If you compare Need for Speed Most Wanted on the DS and PSP, it sure didn't look like EA was putting "more effort" into the DS version.

I think EA needs to get their act together and focus on their problems.

Actually the PSP is one of the fastest selling systems ever.

I don't understand how because the DSL does so well in Japan it is believed that they are killing the PSP. DS had like 5 million unit before the PSP was even released in the US. To be honest the PSP is kicking the DS's ass in the west.

When it comes to software though, unfortunately, too many people pirate games and that's one of the biggest reasons why PSP games fail to continually make it to the top ten of software sales.

Also please note that the site is taking EA's words a bit out of context and stretching the comments made just a tad. For example EA in not way shape or form believe the PSP is a failure.

I don't believe what EA said was a smart comment or a respectable one but it is an understandable one. Put youselves in a developers shoes, You could make a game for the PSP or one for the DS. Fact of the matter is, DS is selling way more than the PSP worldwide so you are bound to make more money becuase there are more possible consumers. And again I stress that this handheld war in particular have proven (that means it is a fact) that the graphic power has little impact on sales. EA is not saying the PSP sucks, they are just taking the route that will earn them more cash.

and Madden plays great on the DS,Madden 06 was slightly better on the psp,but the touch screen was a pure blessing when it came to picking plays.

you can't blame piracy either,GBA has been emulated on the PC as soon as it was released,the DS is coming along and you can pick up rom carts/ds carts for around the same price as memory sticks to play most of the same emulators and ripped games...

Every year they release another one thats almost identical to the one before, yeah yeah you fans say "well there are differnet people and stuff and graphics improved" but what does that change? overall is still the same gameplay and graphic improvement is so minor is barely noticable.... I loved the madden disk problem. I sold my "bad" disk when my new on arrived.

Add to the fact that EA is dropping online support for a lot of it's "old", ie 06 games soon, they need to step it up with online support for those who do buy their remakes.

EA reminds me of hollywood, remaking classics shows into movies. No substance!

Now that they have the NFL monopoly, EA may be suffering from big business sickness. Little to no competition and as others have said, a remake of last year's football game that is their bread and butter is enough to enlarge the cranium a bit. The DS is cool though, and the hardware is prettly sweet. It will be interesting to see how the Madden Wii combo turns out with the new controler and such. Back in the mid eighties EA earned their place with roll playing games for C64. Hopefully EA will not become an anti-competitive, Microsoft-like, predatory, monopolistic gaming company. The industry is changing but it would be a shame if EA stopped supporting the PSP.

The Nintendo DS Lite has overwhelmed the PSP in the way the Nintendo DS plays.

The PSP is a portal Play Station with multimedia functions a Playstation has had before, except with the usage of the memory stick..

The DS is one of the revolutionary gaming styles with dual screens, with a touch bad.

That leads to more interactivity with the games, and a lot more fun.

Yeah the PSP has good graphics, but graphics alone doesn't make a game good.

I thought that Sony should've sticked with the PS2.

I liked the PS2 and the games that came out for it.

But the PSP is just a little knock-off on the hand-held section of Nintendo.

EA is decent anyways.

Sure their support may suck sometimes, but their games are great.

You people who are biased against MS and Nintendo just because you're a PS fan are ignorant.

i have a DS and a PSP

DS has good gameplay becuase of the stylus and the touch p;ad and the mircophone and PSP has amazing grahics becuase they use UMDs instead of carts which dont have as good graphics
