Capcom to release WiiWare titles and will likely acquire new developers in the future - Image 1

Excited for the release of Street Fighter II Turbo HD remix? We know we are. So what's Capcom up to once the game is released? According to Capcom's Christian Svensson, they might focus on the casual gaming arena. More specifically, on the Wii.

Svensson, who is the studio's VP of strategic planning and business development, said that Capcom is currently looking for the right content to release on WiiWare, the new online game distribution for the Wii that will launch next month:

I'm going to lump WiiWare in with PSP e-distribution, in that we're looking for the right content first. A lot of the content we have now isn't quite right in value or approach or interface for WiiWare.

I fully expect us to be doing some WiiWare titles very shortly in the west. [...] We have a couple of concepts internally that I think would be perfect for Wii, as well as other platforms.

On another note, Capcom is also open to acquiring new developers in the future. Recently they've acquired the studio behind the Tenchu series, K2, but it seems they're not going to stop there. Svensson remarks that:

My take on acquisition -- and I've said this internally many times -- is that we're not going to acquire anyone that we haven't done a game with. Chemistry is so critical. That said, I would be sort of surprised if we didn't acquire a Western studio in the next two years. I think it's just sort of a given.
