Streaming TV Onto the PSP Using TVU Player |
Ó
The process itself needs a couple of things before you can try to stream anything, so take note of the following:
- PMP VLC v0.0.9
- VLC Media Player
- A WiFi connection
- TVUPlayer, and
- the PSP version 1.5 (for his guide, anyway)
In the meantime, try it out, see if it works with other firmwares, and let him know (email in the readme!) your thoughts or offers of assistance. Enjoy!

You cannot add more stations to TVU. I have about 50 right now so its pretty good.

I have been using TVU player for some time now, but this means that you can get near live tv (its about a minute delay time) on your psp!!!!! Anyone know about the homebrew compatability on this?

Awesome, everytime I do step 15 on the Readme file, VLC Media Player *****s up and needs to close itself.

Maybe there's a bug in the command or setting. I tried to follow all the steps but gives me error on both VLC & PSP. It doesn't specify the ip address then add colon and port number in the VLC setting. Which port number do I have to use?
i leave the psp out for now cause ...what we wanna get working is basicly TVU player *which works* but VLC to show the timer streaming!.

Add the PMP Server in the root of your Memory Stick and add the VLC-ENABLE in the Video Sub-Folder (inside the PSP Folder) then now you can stream live TV!

After seeing the videos for both, I would say that this is far better. Sure, it has problems connecting sometimes, but it bypasses the cost issue that the sony product has. Theres probably something I'm missing though, like special PC software or somethig, but it looks good so far.

Again change the XXX IP THAT U SEE ON TARGET
Now reopen TVUPlayer and choose your channel. It should show you the channel after it buffers up

Back in VLC, click OK, then OK again and now you should be streaming TVUPlayer. VLC should have a “timer†running in the bottom left of the program window.
Now turn on your PSP and run the PMPVLC009_Jocky W homebrew, make sure you have set up a WIFI connection in v1.5 firmware before launching the program
Turn on your Wlan switch and then press Right Trigger to enable wireless
Now press Select, scroll down to Live Stream and hit Circle
You should now see a black screen with Loading… for a few seconds then your TV should appear. If the image pops up but is distorted, just press Square and then Select and choose Live Stream again and it should work again
TURN OFF FIREWALL!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

The timer in VLC never starts running, but it streams to PMP VLC nonetheless.
For some reason the player won't do anything but sit there. It doesn't buffer or anything.

Joe I did exactly that, Still doesnt work. I have no software firewall on. When i go into psp and press the R trigger my wifi goes green but then i select live Stream: then i get a error saying http://192.168.0.2/: Error while opening file

haha i figured it out!. I made another connection in the psp network settings.....
normally it would just say network is on but i read further and in the readme it said it should say your ip but it didnt. Well after i made another network connection it DID show my IP.

nice job... but this is such a hassle n u can't flip through channels from the psp.. u can't also stream tv outside the your local wifi range.... i got the sony locationfree hooked up to my computer/dvd player/cable set top box..n enjoying streaming of movies, animes, and tv from virtually anywhere in the world where there is a wifi hotspot...

I've only been using tvuplayer for the last two weeks. Trying to keep it on the DL. Can't believe this has come so soon. Awesome job, can't wait to watch hbo on the go.
Brilliant. Works a treat. The only problem I find with this app is that I will always have to change the TV channel from the computer. Hopefully this will be made possible to do using the psp in a later release.

Yes it works fine in Sweden, I live in gothenburg and have no problems.
have tried a few times to get VLC to work in the past.....this one was the only one that worked first time out...

Just one thing, can you tell us how you found out what channel the TVU player was using?
This may be usefull if we try other media players & need to find out which port they use..

There is a full guide on PS2NFO which I adapted for my guide. Or you can just go into file>capture card and choose your card. It depends if you card is suppoted by VLC. As I use BDA Drivers for XPMCE its not compatible for me :-( Hence why TVUPlayer is the next best thing. There is a guide somewhere about VLC Changing Channels, but it was waaaaayyy to complicated for little old me!
Ok heres my problem. I do everything right and the vlc even shows it playing there and all. Then when i get to the psp it connects and everything but in the Ip its not the same as the one on my pc? the last number is diferent. Then i connect and get the http://192.168.0.2/: Error while opening file
i even changed the ip last number on the psp and it doesnt show after i do that? so my problem is with the ips right? any suggestions
I'm sorry I can't help at the moment as I am in work, but I will be online after 7pm UK Time. I will try and help you all as best as I can then. Try following the readme again from scratch and make sure your ip address in the .ini file matches your pc, and also make sure VLC is actually streaming the video and not just displaying it. The readme should sort it if followed accuratley

you know how to get tvants and ppstream working?? the port on ppstream is 6901 or somthing but doesnt read in vlc "unable to .." after i tried to change the ip from 8901 to 6901 on the open network stream part.

hey guys i've been tryin to get this to work but my ip address starts with "24" not "192" :(
Whatever happened to Ditlew's eTV project that he was working on? And how come there have been no updates on TVSP? I got this thing working but it's not that practical. I don't want to leave this program streaming video to my computer while im away just in the off chance that I'll want to connect and watch some of it. Still really cool though, maybe in the future there will be a way to control it via the PSP.

Very good app!!! It works perfect with webcam/micro stream too with an acceptable delay of 3sec.
I downloaded it on my PC and actually want to use it at school to stream CNN News from time to time(I teach current events) but am questioning the legality of this. Any one know for sure? I've tried to find out but no one seems to know.

Doesn't work on my 1.5 because I have a type of net password that FW 1.5 doesn't have.. And I can't run it on Devhook either it seems.. I can't even get VLC to stream again (it worked once).... Damnit... I knew it ws too good to be true..:P
I read somewhere that TVUPlayer is legally broadcasting these channels... BUT... they go off air every other week so that makes me wonder. I say... make the most of it while you can and while its FREE!

If you are encountering problems with TVUPlayer or VLC, you could have possible hardware issues with your PC's. I assure you this works if you follow the Readme. I may do a whole tutorial on the weekend on video, but I am working all week, so I cant be assed till then.

Ok, ive tryed this on 2 computer so far, when I click ok for vlc to start streaming, it will show the video in vlc as it looks like its gonna work, and when it does i get VLC media player has encountered a problem abnd needs to close. I get this on 2 computers with windows xp Pro on them. I get to the saem point on both. But i dont click on close, and VLC stays open and keeps streaming, but i get an error when trying to view it on the PSP and it says http://myip:1234 error while opening file. What gives!!! VLC doesnt work to well..

I'm off to bed, I hope you all sort out your dilemas. Like I say, i'm no expert. If you are having problems, just backup and format your memory sticks, Uninstall VLC and TVU from your PC's and start from scratch following the readme file. I haven't heard of TVAnts, but if it broadcasts out on a port, give it a go!

Oh man, I can't believe i'm watching (semi) live TV on my PSP! This is so amazing!
this works flawlessly - only setting I needed to change was in the target line I changed 380 to 480 to get full screen on my psp....

I'm guessing that you could also stream TV with other streaming tools. Because it seems like if you use other streaming tools, you get more channels.

i swear i followed this guide on 4 PCs so far, on 2 of them vlc had a problem. the other 2 worked, but i keep getting the file not found on my PSP when i stream off the computer. I am gonna shti my pants in like 2 seconds this will never work ARGGHH

same problem here psp_201 I got it all working, just when it comes down to connecting the PSP to the computer, nothing happens the the ip with the file load error. This is so lame...

i love this thing i was considering buyin a tv card to watch tv on my psp (ime deprived and have no tv in my room lol) but now with this i can watch tv for free. I was gettin a lot of problems at first but fixed em cuz when i went to file then open network stream i put my ip adress in but forgot the ":8901" right after my ip so that resolved the problem (i think) hope that helps for somebody out there with that problem lol

Now reopen TVUPlayer and choose your channel. It should show you the channel after it buffers up

Back in VLC, click OK, then OK again and now you should be streaming TVUPlayer. VLC should have a “timer†running in the bottom left of the program window.
Now turn on your PSP and run the PMPVLC009_Jocky W homebrew, make sure you have set up a WIFI connection in v1.5 firmware before launching the program
Turn on your Wlan switch and then press Right Trigger to enable wireless
Now press Select, scroll down to Live Stream and hit Circle
You should now see a black screen with Loading… for a few seconds then your TV should appear. If the image pops up but is distorted, just press Square and then Select and choose Live Stream again and it should work again
TURN OFF FIREWALL!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
MAKE SURE U GO TO NETWORK SETTINGS AND REDO UR WIRELESS CONECTION IN PSP MENU!

Ok, i had this problem too. all you have to do is temp dissable a blockade between you and the TVU. In my case it was norton internet security. Like said, i have internet security and all I had to do was dissable it temporarily. then open TVU and it connects. did i get it stream to my psp? no, i get the VLC error "unable to... etc". hope i helped some people seeing as the 'ready' problem makes up half of these problems....good luck guys

im not getting it to work through devhook. it gets a 2 of 4 connection with firmware 1.5 and i cant get it to even open in the other firmwares (corrupted data). how do i get the 4 of 4 connection?
ive got devhook and i access internet with FW 2.71 which makes TVU corrupted data. is there a way for me to get Wifi with the 1.5 fw (i only get 2 of 4 connection).

ok, so I followed everything just right, and my psp connected ok, but no working. So I played with the ini.
Set vlc to my pc's IP, pmp to my router's IP, and liveserver to my pc's IP.
I figured since the PMP setting is the homebrew running on my PSP, and my PSP is connecting to my router, (different IP than my pc) then that setting should reflect my router's IP.
Takes a couple loads, one is pixeled out, then it does another load screen and is fine. :)
Hope this helps anyone with troubles.

Are you really supposed to use you computer IP even if your connecting to your PSP using an USB Wlan key? Shouldn't I use the ip from my wlan instead?

ok, when i paste the code on the vlc player (target) it doesnt stream anything, but when i select http or MMSH and paste it there then it streams! now when i try to connect my psp to live stream i get an error....

i was just checking the video again and i found that when he as streaming on vlc, TVU was not playing on its window....but my one plays on its window....am thinking this might be the problem....on vlc the timer comes on but it doesnt stream anything...how does yours work does the chennel come on in the TVU window?

I got it to work, the trick is that if you have security on your wireless turn it off, atleast if its WPA, i don't know if it works with WEP. Every thing else i did as i was told bu the readme file.

yo when I open TVUPlayer there are ZERO channels...I'v reinstalled, re-read every step like a billion times and there is still no channels showing up. Iv disabled my firewall/norton and still nothing...

OK. I have gotten it to work.... it only works for me everyone once in a while... when I dont get it to work and I press the square button many times I will get my psp to crash... and when I do get it to work after like 10 minutes the app on the pc will crash.....

ok, i was having problem of getting this to work on my PC, VLC player was not streaming TVU player, but then when i tried it on laptop it work on the first go! and I got it my PSP very easily following the instruction given earlier! the thing is I want this to work on my PC, does anyone know how to get this work and know why this works on my laptop and not my PC?????
has it got something to do with ports, i have tried changing ports but no luck :(, also on my PC the TVU player takes up the whole screen whereas on lptop it is smaller has this got anything to do with it? hope someone can help!

Yesterday I got this homebrew working and it got me to thinking. Streaming TVUPlayer video to my PSP was great and everything, but on my computer I have a DVB USB Tuner. I thought it would be a great if I could stream live terrestrial digital to my PSP, however I had no way of using the DVB Tuner to supply a source to VLC.
To cut a long story short, late last night I had it working. I was streaming live BBC1 to my PSP at fullscreen with excellent quality.
How did I do this? I found the following tutorial (http://technonotice6.googlepages .com/streaming.html) very useful. If you follow this tutorial you will be able to have VLC play video from a BDA DVB Tuner. VLC can then restream this input in a PSP compatible way to PSP VLC.
The requirements to get this working are:
1. 1.5 FW PSP.
2. BDA Compatible TV tuner.
3. Wireless router.
4. The freeware programs detailed the above two links.
If there is a demand I can write a more detailed explanation of the steps I went through.

well, like most of u, I tried absolutely *****ing everything and i got that .. cant open file blah blah bull*****.. even doing everything perfect.. but it works now.. follow this:
First for pmp.ini:
Make sure use_avc_hw is 0 (dunno how to get avc to work yet). Make sure vid_codec = DIV3 is uncommented and all the other codecs are #'ed. vid_bitrate = 600; anything higher than that really isn't necessary since this isn't exactly the highest quality TV streams around.

aud_codec = your preference between mp3 or vorb really either work.
aud_bitrate = 64;
aud_channels = 2;
container = ogg;
Also make sure you have the right IP address(start menu -> run -> cmd ->ipconfig to find your IP address.
Add the following to the VLC shortcut:

Change vorb to mp3 if you wish.
Open TVUplayer, select channel, run VLC and then try starting PMP VLC and it should work. Too bad PMP VLC is quite freeze prone if you do something wrong like press the wrong button.

I got TVU working and streaming to VLC.
I have copied all the files to my PSP and made the IP changes.
When I go to launch the PMP VLC Player on my PSP it reports "This game can not be started. The data is corrupted."
The file under PMP VLC Player has an icon that resembles a lightning bolt and beside it "Corrupted Data"
I am running OS ver 2.81
Please help.
