Sound Mod: Pump Up the Volume! |
Ó
No, Christian Slater has nothing to do with this post... come to think of it, he has nothing to do with much of anything now a days, but I digress. Califrag has posted an interesting little mod for those of you who just can't get the PSP to jump like you want it to. The process does involve opening up the PSP case, so the warranty will be thrown out the window on this one. For a complete rundown on how to go about setting the PSP's sound free, check out this thread on our forums. On a related note, Califrag has also given us some pointers on using "tracking caps" or "mouse caps" for laptops to replace the standard analog nub as an alternative to the large, bluky PSP nubs out on the market. You can check out that thread of our forums [here].

----------[This Works!]----------
Noticable 15-20% louder speakers
What I did:
((((Step 1))))
I got bored... So i opened my psp and took the warrently sticker off VERY carfully with an xacto knife (or however you spell it) took like 20mins to get teh sticker off without dmgaging it. bu it's possibe.
((((Step 2))))
Took off the screws, one on bottum two on back two (one is other the warrenty sticker) under battery face plate came right off.
((((Step 3))))
Don't loose your screws rofl i spent 20mins looking for one of those bastards. Also forthose of you like me who don't know the analog stick pops off from the front it took me prolly 45mins of googling to figure out how that bastard comes off.
((((Step 4)))
cut the plastic BE CAREFUL. It's like right next to the screenlast thing i want is a scratched screen. I used a cut up T-Shirt to cover the wholes it worked nicley. then i crazy glused it carfully but putting the glue on a toothpick and holding it on the fabric.
((((Step 5))))
Screwed everything back together. And it s noticably louder i would say around the 15%-20% louder.I don't have to have the volume cracked to hear anything on my lunch break anymore. :D
((((Step 6))))
If you bought your psp at bestbuy and purchased the 2 year warrenty from best buy which is a no questions asked full return for a in store credit of 250 bucks or a new psp. I didn't care to much if i messed up the void warrenty sticker. But all in all i got the warrently sticker back on there and it looks like i never touched it aside form the sticker has a bent corner >_< my bad.
i did it
its not an amazing sound difference
but theres a little more power and clarity
try it if you want
it dosent hurt anything
oinker, once you even peel back an eighth of an inch - no matter how carefully - it's void. I haven't opened mine, but sony can see if it is.
Es funktioniert nicht, weil die Lautsprecher weiter unten sitzen!!!
Die Tonqualität nimmt ein kleines bisschen (Ganz bisschen)zu, mehr aber auch nicht!
Habs selbst ausprobiert...
Sorry but my english is very bad, so I posted it in german...you should translate this...
Ghettobird, I agree that the speaker is positioned way more below (in fact, I believe the speakers are actually pointed face down out of the holes on the bottom of the psp) however you do notice the sound quality being clearer and in some cases up to 20% louder. I'm wondering if Sony changed the speaker hardware or location sometime during the manufacturing process and that's what is causing mixed results? Either way, clearer sound to me is louder sound (obviously it is able to escape the psp case easier). And oinker thanks for the step by step tut and the confirmation! I'm really glad it worked for you and you noticed a difference! :)
Translation:
It doesn't work, cause the speaker is way is positioned way more below!!!!
Die soundquality does improve a litlle bit (oke a fair amount), but nothing more.
I tried it myself....
Entschuldigung aber mein Englisch ist sehr slecht, deswegen hab ich es ins Deutsch geschrieben...ihr sollen es Englisch machen.
I translated it myself :)
it helps to know Dutch, German, English, French, Russian
as i said before I don't need sonys warrenty I bough best buys 2 year warrenty I have already returned my psp once becasue my friend updated the firmware at a lan. Returned it to best buy i said it locked up some times they took it bqack without even looking at it. haha.
dont do this, you may blow your psp speakers!!
I'm not sure how that's possible, since all you're doing is removing a bit of plastic from the case. The output of the actual speakers is unchanged.
Im not sure that this will have any effect for me seeing as I only use the PSP headphones for sound but cool idea.
And the christian slater comment was bang out of line. Jake you should know better. He did a very brilliant comedy earlier this year entitled Churchill: The Hollywood Years. So there and if you check on imdb.com you will see that he is up to other things as well, I would expect someone that is posting news to at least get their facts straight before posting anything.
Ummm... it was a joke... a little tongue in cheek make reading the news a bit more entertaining. No offense intended toward Mr. Slater. :)
Besides, I'm old enough to remember when Slater was extremely popular and on the cover of every magazine... not quite the case anymore, but such is Hollywood.

THIS ****ING **** IS BULL****!!
It doesnt even work so dont do it.
Whu does pspupdates post the gayest ****!!
They have nothing else to post thats better.!!!!!
I REPEAT -THIS DOES NOT WORK AND I CONFRIRM IT!!-
I just tried it and all I did was **** up my psp and scratch up the screen and avoid my god dam warranty!! Guys this is ****. Just dont do it. Its **** like all the other news pspupdateZ posts.
BeLIVE m3 guyZ. pspupdates fired me because i was not posting ****ty news like this!!
Personally I don't have any problem with sound volume except when I'm playing 'Who wants to be a Millionaire'.
I had to open up my PSP MANY times to fix analog stick (to open the face cover, you need to unscrew 5 screws; 1 bottom, 2 back, and 2 beneath battery [get the black screw, not white ones] and just lift the cover)..
AND you don't mess up your psp and scratch up the screen for just opening it- if you did, you were most likely being EXTREMELY careless. and yes, it does void your warranty because you would have to peel off that sticker beneath battery to expose extra screws.
Either you were extremely careless with your psp or your story sounds like it's made up.
Anyway, if I were you, I wouldn't do this mod unless you are extremely unhappy with the sound volume.
I agree with Chris and nvqphil that if you are happy with your current psp speaker's volume or you just use the headsets, then this mod isn't for you.. Me, i'm always looking for ways to improve things and I will probably end up cutting the tabs off my asterix faceplate that I ordered. And to the guy who said that "this ****ing **** is bull****", no, it's not, and you must be a complete idiot to have scratched up your screen. There's two tabs it's not rocket science. This mod is only for people with at least a quarter of a brain cell. Maybe you should go back to licking the window and screaming some more. Anyways, if you haven't already opened your psp, then I advise you don't do this. The only reason I did it was because I had to open the psp to fix the analog and I figured while I was in there I would poke around and see what I could improve.
by the way, jake, thanks for posting it on the homepage ^.^
