Running FW1.00/1.50 on TA-082~086 PSP

A lot of changes have been happening in the PSP homebrew community. Firmware updates, custom firmware - it can get quite confusing for a lot of people. Just so there's a minimum of confusion (and complaints), 0okm has graciously decided to post the following info on his blog:

TA-082~086 PSP with CORRECT HACK,
it can run ALL FW1.00/1.50 Official / Homebrew software !!!
(except Official FW1.50~2.50 UpDate EBOOT.PBP)

TA-082~086 PSP with CORRECT HACK can run Any FW(1.00~3.03) :P
it can't run Official FW1.50~2.50 UpDate EBOOT.PBP
but it can run UnOfficial Up/DownDate EBOOT.PBP :P

if a FW1.00/1.50 TA-082~086 PSP can't run ANY FW1.00/1.50 Official / Homebrew software,
that mean it haven't CORRECT HACKed :P

Got that? Take it to heart, guys, and don't forget to always double check to make sure that you're getting the correct hack or homebrew for your PSP.

Yes, just keep taunting us with your TA-082 downgrader 0okm. Sick of hearing about it. Either release the goods or shut up with the remarks. Sure you get a lot of babies asking and annoying you for it, but no need to taunt the people who really want to be a part of homebrew community but wont annoy you constantly with childish remarks on a daily basis.

If none of you understood the importance of what was stated above in the article, then either you are impatient bastards(likely ), or you don't know how to peice together what 0okm is trying to say. He, and I quote, already had a softdowngrade, and a hardware downgrade but both had the inherent problem of requiring people's psps, time, and unfortunately money. What the above article states is that instead of having to go through the process of having to downgrade to upgrade, you instead look for files and methods already present within the TA-082~TA-086 boards that allow:

1.) The ability to run already present eboots (e.g. gpsp, snes9xtyl, etc) officially but instead being unable to run any, "Official FW1.50~2.50 UpDate EBOOT.PBP", as in blacklisting those to not run.

2.) The ability to run unofficial update or downdate programs (downgraders, false upgraders (FW trickers)) for the purpose of emulating a better or higher firmware (e.g Devhook 3.02 -A or -B).

With and I say this in quotes, "With the 'CORRECT HACK'", such that instead of having to downgrade a TA-082~086 PSP we instead upgrade to something better after having hacked or discovered the hack to make it work.

Or in simplest terms: "Make the TA-082~-086 it's own golden firmware motherboard like Firmwares 1.5, 2.71, etc. with the right hacks, and if not the right ones, then at least ones that can be found at some point later on."

There is an inherent problem when you downgrade the TA-082 motherboard in that it cannot be upgraded any longer, and if anything like that is tried it will most certainly destroy the psp itself and render it a brick, rather than a usable device.

There was an article about these websites impersonating Dark_AleX before. Don't be fooled into ruining your psp. If it wasn't on pspupdates or proved in the forums by now, it is a safe bet your being conned. (unless it is solely an ISO loader)

I really wish this article and it's comments would be deleted. It's pointless to remind and inform people that a kernal hack could be used like 1.50's is to load homebrew instead of just a downgrader. It becomes news when DEVELOPER'S make it happen. Right now, it's just confusing. ugh.

Some people have TA-082 or TA-086 as they where unfortunate not to find or get anything below. However some devs look to get around this problem and all the better I say.

Now I am sick and tired of hearing about morons upgrading perfectly good PSPs that could be running 3.02 OE-B or similar hacked firmware. Even those 82 and 86sers should know better than to update when a hack will come out for older less protected firmwares first.

This is not BS. I have a 1.50 TA-082 PSP. I bought it a few days ago, these things are available at certain not so official retail outlets in Moscow. It is a ceramic white PSP-1006 (L).

My guess is that it has the "correct hack", since I've been able to run various homebrew software (incl. Devhook to emulate 2.x firmware for newer games).

So, the key question for me now is whether or not I can upgrade this PSP to DarkAlex's 3.02 custom firmware, so I finally can use my vast library of PSX games...

If it really is a TA-082, then no. It will certainly brick, even after a softdown. This is because references in the firmware have been changed to match the specific hardware. The normal 1.50 eboot used to make the bootstrap for any custom firmware will obviously not have specific references to your hardware, therefore, will brick.

Think about it, he says that the OFFICIAL SONY v1.5 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP file is what is actually blacklisted, NOT THE FIRMWARE ITSELF!

What this means is that if Dark_aleX (or someone else) creates an UNOFFICIAL v1.5 UPDATE EBOOT that performs all the same functions as the official one, then the v1.5 firmware can be installed on TA-082 PSPs. EXCEPT, it will only work if it was created from scratch by someone, because it also needs to NOT BE RECOGNIZED as the OFFICIAL v1.5 EBOOT file.

I'm willing to bet that it will be easy enough for Dark_aleX to do, because basically all the OFFICIAL v1.5 UPDATER does is format the NAND FLASH, and then it installs the v1.5 files.

You guys just wait and see, I bet I am right on this one...

jrfhoutx - you really do need to learn your facts before you make yourself look like a jack-ass.

There are indeed TA-082 PSPs with 1.5 firmware. They didn't ship that way from Sony, they've been hard-downed.

I can't vouch for the 3.02 oe part though. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true, yet at the same time, if I had a ta-082 running 1.5 I wouldn't be willing to try it either.

Yes you can update to 3.02 OE A/B, BUT as 0okm states you can't run the official 1.5 EBOOT on a TA082 so you cannot use the recovery function to downgrade back to 1.5.

Just to put some of you at ease, those of you that have bought a TA-082 PSP with 1.5 already on it (Most likely from Ebay like myself) You CAN update to 3.02 OE-A because I just did it with no problems at all. And wait a second - I was under the impression that a TA-082 REJECTS 1.5 prx modules and will autobrick if any attempt is made to run 1.5 prx's from flash0. I guess I'm wrong here. If 0okm can softdown a TA-082 to 1.5 (which, suspiciously, there are no confirmed cases) then I guess it's possible.

It's one thing to say this kind of stuff and give us TA-082 owners some hope, but it's an entirely DIFFERENT thing to post something like this and actually tell us how you came to this conclusion. Saying a TA-082 PSP will run 1.5 is pretty much the same as saying that a PSP can talk to you - it just doesn't, unless you have facts.

I can't confirm that the downgrader that is available will allow you to install 3.02 OE-A, however, the technique that these people on Ebay are using clearly works. I would assume that the 1.5 version that they actually use isn't the official one therefore its not going to be blacklisted, which would also explain why I am able to upgrade to a custom firmware. If you do have a 1.5 TA-082, it is only going to be from one place using the same downgrading method as mine, so I would say its pretty much safe to install 3.02 OE-A and then upgrading to B. I am already running my PSX games without any problems so go for it people.

...so that we can see that you have a TA-082 mobo (showing IC1003 I think will be enough), a 3.02 firmware (system information will suffice) and, better yet, your PSP can run an emulated PSX game.

And it better be one continuous shot, without cuts. Sorry for the paranoia, but I really need some solid proof that a 1.50 TA-082 can be sucessfully upgraded to 3.02 OE.

Nomad, I understand your fears, but I was exactly like you this morning. I don't have a video recorder otherwise I would make a video for you. There is no reason for me to make it up, it works and if you think about it, it makes sence why it works because what 0okm says is right. You can either sit with your 1.5 PSP or install 3.02 OE-A. It worked for me, and from the sounds of it, you have an identical PSP to me, so in the end its down to you.

I just freakin thought of something... Does Devhook run on 2.80 PSPs? And at that would it regardless of TA-082 motherboard? Could we maybe use devhook to EMULATE 2.60 firmware on a TA-082 and then run the official 2.71 update? Will the PSP think it's really running 2.60 and actually install the update? I dunno just a thought.

D_A's custom firmware OE-A and OE-B are UNOFFICIAL updates... So why the heck shouldn't they work on TA-082 if Ookm's statement is true? Did D_A even test it on TA-082 or was he just assuming? Or have there been others that have tested it? And if to install D_A's OE-A/B on a TA-082 you need this "CORRECT HACK" thing then what the freak is it? Ookm stop being confusing and tell us.

Yes, people are saying that 3.02 OE-B is functioning perfectly on TA-082 PSPs. The only thing that does not work is the RECOVERY option, but I bet if you exchange the v1.5 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP file in the RECOVERY folder with the v2.71 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP file, then I bet it would work fine.

not to my knowledge. as i understand it, devhook redirects all flash access attempts to the dumped firmware files located on your memory stick. i assume that running a 2.71 update while emulating 2.6 would result in the psp flashing the update files to the memory stick, and not NAND flash. emulating some sort of customized firmware which redirects official sony updates to the actual flash may be possible, however

Tags: 0okm, TA-082, homebrew community A lot of changes have been happening in the PSP homebrew community. Firmware updates, custom firmware - it can get quite confusing for a lot of people. Just so there's a minimum of confusion (and complaints), 0okm has graciously decided to post the following info on his blog:

TA-082~086 PSP with CORRECT HACK,

it can run ALL FW1.00/1.50 Official / Homebrew software !!!

(except Official FW1.50~2.50 UpDate EBOOT.PBP)

TA-082~086 PSP with CORRECT HACK can run Any FW(1.00~3.03)

it can't run Official FW1.50~2.50 UpDate EBOOT.PBP

but it can run UnOfficial Up/DownDate EBOOT.PBP

if a FW1.00/1.50 TA-082~086 PSP can't run ANY FW1.00/1.50 Official / Homebrew software,

that mean it haven't CORRECT HACKed

Got that? Take it to heart, guys, and don't forget to always double check to make sure that you're getting the correct hack or homebrew for your PSP.

Note to all people with a foreign language:

The 1.50 update has all of the most common european, and southern/northern-american languages (Spanish, French, etc.), so you can downgrade your console and still have the XMB in one's native language.

i have a ta-082 downgraded from 2.71 to 1.50 and i cannot run devhook 0.51. What correct hack are you talking about as i cannot find any information regarding a correct hack to run devhook on a 1.50 Ta-082. if you have any information please send it to mikecko8@gmail.com

I know you can upgrade to 3.03 OE-B but i wanted to know if you can run dev on a 1.50 Ta-082
