MediaCoder PSP Transcoding in 5 Easy Steps |

Ó
In just five easy steps, PSP users cans use MediaCoder to transcode for PSP Medial Player (PMP), enabling users to playback full screen (480x272) and full motion MPEG-4 video on PSP. Note that PMP does not support firmware later than version 1.5.
Step 1: Get and install PMP Mod v2.00 on your PSP.
A simple PMP installer is available at the MediaCoder site. After you download the file, double-click on it and you will see the installer dialog:

If you can see the PSP screen, you have set up PMP on your PSP.

Step 2: Download and install the latest version of MediaCoder. Let the installer wizard get you through the process.
Step 3: Use MediaCoder to transcode for PMP. Add the video file(s) you want to watch on PSP to MediaCoder's transcoding list by clicking the Add File or Add Folder button. Since version 0.3.8, MediaCoder comes with a dedicated transcoder for PSP Media Player. Click the PSP button to activate it.

Step 4: Crop to keep Aspect Ratio. To make sure you get the correct aspect ratio (1.765:1 for the 480x272 PSP screen), you may need to do cropping on the original video.

Step 5: Start transcoding.
Back to the PSP transcoder window. Once your PSP is connected to your PC, you will be notified of the status at the right bottom corner. If you start transcoding while PSP is connected, you will be asked whether to directly transcode into your PSP. You can set an output folder at the main window and choose No at this point if your want to transcode to your hard drive and then manually copy the result file to PSP (put the .pmp files in PSPVIDEO so that you can see them in PMP).

There you have it. Start enjoying your video!

The video player on the PSP is locked a certain resolution, much smaller than the max, full-screen resolution. Sony did this on purpose to force you to buy UMD movies in order to enjoy watching movies with the full screen. The PMP movie thing allows you to watch your own movies and full-resolution.

And for those of you saying the built in MPEG-4 support is the same, your wrong. It can't display full resolution.

But I found an other way :
After the file is chosen, use the Picture category on the bottom left of the mail screen. Then choose to resize the video (480x272 for wide screen ; 368x272 for normal ; or any other proportion which is a multiple of 8x8). Then crop the video (for example 0:0:640:480) and then push the main start button.
If the two sizes don't have the same proportion, then the aspect ratio will not be correct but il will work.
If it daesn't work, look at the file *.log created.
This program is still great (lots of good ideas) but could be improved.
