A little trick: get "Devulated" 2.71 up to 333mhz

Devhook

Many of you may have noticed the one annoying thing about DevHook: that it freezes when you try to run firmware 2.71 at 333Mhz in the Devhook menu. Although some of you may have already figured this out, IndianCheese has posted a little trick that allows you to run emulated firmware 2.71 using DevHook at 333Mhz without it freezing just by using Ahman's legendary shell application, iR Shell. Here it is:
  1. Run iR Shell.
  2. Press R+Start repeatedly until the PSP is clocked up to 333mhz (Check the green numbers at the top of the screen).
  3. Run Devhook 0.46 through iR Shell.
  4. Choose "CPU Speed".
  5. Choose 333/166.
  6. Choose "Start".
  7. The PSP will successfully boot 2.71 firmware clocked at 333mhz.
This workaround is quickest for iR Shell regulars who put their PSP on sleep in iR Shell in order to bypass the PSPs XMB when turning it on, but there is also another workaround. You can just start devhook then hold home and hit select until you get to 333mhz, which also doesn't crash the PSP.

We guess it is because the PSP doesn't like you changing it to 333Mhz when you boot up in 2.71, maybe due to a bit of Sony's security coding during 2.71 startup. Anyhow, either of these 2 methods will enable you to boot up firmware 2.71 in DevHook at 333Mhz without crashing, just use whichever method is quickest for you. Just remember - running your PSP at 333Mhz drains your battery much quicker than at 222Mhz!

Where is Booster???????

This is OK...... But do you know where is Booster or if he is working on a new version of Devhook to emulate 2.8 Firmware??????????
by - 2006-08-13 10:24:35
WTF

you guys must be retarded not to know this... WOOOTTT #1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is the stupidest thing i have ever heard in my life. post some real news or don\'t post at all.. anyways, iRShell pwns. lmao: \"PSP at 333Mhz drains your battery much quicker than at 222Mhz!\"... i won\'t even respond to the obviousness of that and how stupid it was..
by - 2006-08-13 10:30:08
Theres another reason not to run at 333

333 on 2.71 will fry ur wifi, do not do this if u intend to use wifi with 2.71 emulated.
by - 2006-08-13 10:31:39
Home + Select

use Home + Select and change cpu to 333 once DevHook is running
by goonage - 2006-08-13 10:34:27
what ?

"333 on 2.71 will fry ur wifi, do not do this if u intend to use wifi with 2.71 emulated." how does this fry ur wifi ? wifi works fine on running Devhook @ 2.71
by - 2006-08-13 10:37:15
it wont

nr 4. where did u read that it will fry ur wifi? changing ur cpu speed doesnt increase the speed of a wifi chip ;).

man I expected more when I saw this banner

333 works fine with me anyways, i just run devhook from the xmb then i set it to 333 and away i go. plus why the heck would i want to load another peice of homebrew when i can achieve 333 + wifi without irshell. TO #8 - i did too! and to #4 - i think you have believed a rumour. #7 says it all. there is NO way on earth you can fry your wifi/cpu on the psp as the cpu on the psp was designed to run up-to 333mhz. i didnt mean any flaming if it seems like i did, just pointing out the facts.

...

Next time post something newsworthy about devhook you clogs! Also this isn't a solution, it's a moronic workaround while there are such better methods available as for example Home + Select. Also setting the cpu count to 333 Mhz will not drain your battery, that's nonsense. You'll probably skimp about 15-20 minutes of a full battery.
by - 2006-08-13 11:44:32
NOPE

glad you sourced DCemu, but this crap doesn' t even work!!! has enyone even tried it?! it still freezes at the sony screen

USE DevHook_v0.46_Tetra_Pack_For_PSP

I installed the DevHook_v0.46_Tetra_Pack_For_PSP and I have no problems booting up with 333 Just the use the included .45 utility to set the setting for .46 settingsie. usb, screenshot, clock. I use casual firmware v2 to auto boot into 2.71 after setting it and POOF..It boots into 333.. Oh and I also installed my 2.71 using the latest ultimate Installer.. No crashes so far..

this is dumb

i was able to get 2.7 emulated with 333MHz already um o yea i cant get to play socom online on 333MHz

Eject UMD Before Booting in 333

Try this, if it freezes when running 333, eject the UMD before booting into devhook 333, this should take you into the psp menu, then pop the UMD in and run it. works for me
by - 2006-08-13 12:23:41
holy

band-aid solutions batman.

where

where is booster & 2.80 firmware emulation kthx
by - 2006-08-13 13:25:49
press home+select within devhook

to change the CPU clockspeed without any other apps. This is way beyond pointless and idiotic. If somebody read the README(*****ing clue morons) then you would know that HOME+SELECT from WITHIN the emulated firmware will change the clockspeed. Start at 222mhz then press home+select and you are fine.

i think Booster will relased some day devhook emulated 2.80 and everyone will be very happy, it will be big surprise from him:)

FREEZING @ $ONY SCREEN for #11. » NOPE

#11. if your devhook is freezing at the sony screen, eject your umd b4 you boot dh. works for me, it just seems to be some iso's/umds dont like starting as soon as the xmb loads thru devhook.
by (Unregistered) - 2006-08-13 13:55:49
O_o

Works for me! I've tried both ways, works just fine but i use my own method... Anyways off topic... it kinda sucks without Booster around... i was looking forward to the next update :(

What is the benefit?

I've never bothered too much about the CPU MHz settings before, figuring the app (game) will set the correct CPU speed itself (this might be totally wrong). But what's the difference (is any) in playing a game through DevHook with different CPU speed-settings?
by - 2006-08-13 14:04:07
hmm

it's FAR less of a hastle to just use home+select...
by - 2006-08-13 14:21:38
Yes, but why overclock?

Even if it doesn't drain your battery much, and if it can't harm the PSP in any way, what's the point of overclocking to 333? I've run lots of stuff under devhook at 222 and not noticed any slowdowns. Moving stuff to flash using devhook 0.46 made the XMB and browser faster. Will someone give me a good reason to go to 333? Or is it just something to do because it's cool?

21 try to play gta.lcs with cou on 333, it makes very big diference!, the game looks much more better
by - 2006-08-13 14:34:57
There is a much better way

There is a Devhook Mod that has a safeboot mode built into it. When 2.71 firmware is booted it switches to 222mhz and then after 10 seconds after it has booted it switches back to 333mhz. Oh and by the way, I don't see this as news worthy either. This is something suited to a forum thread in a newbies section. I will be using the Modchip soon so none of this will make any difference anyway.
by Evab3vA - 2006-08-13 15:46:47
Kinda pointless

As in DevHook 0.46 you can just select 333Mhz from within the 2.71 XMB with Home+Select. Not that hard. :)

wow

wow 26 comments, about 10 of them reiterating what's already in the article, as if they're announcing it for the first time, and about another 10 people commenting on how they're too cool for this news item. Very sad, people.

WARNIGN TO WIFI USErS!

its true, running at 333hz will seriously screw up the wifi reciever inside the PSP. Try using wifi in 33mhz for 15 min and it will feel sooo hot! Youll know what I mean, its not good.
by - 2006-08-13 18:39:54

So its only bad to overclock using wifi right? The games play and look alot better at 333hz like tekken and bleach
by - 2006-08-13 21:49:31

#28 yeah it does tend to get hot after a while when playing at 333mhz but is it really affecting the WiFi...? Oh well only time will tell... T_T
by - 2006-08-13 22:06:25
GOOD BUT TOO CHEAP

well i am a v2.71 user and they will have to kiss my ass for me to try this... no way that i am ganna kill my psp w 333hz... thats insane....
by - 2006-08-13 22:21:07
easyer way

download the devhook settings changer/ (its a hombrew that works only on 'devulated' 2.71) start devhook in 222 and then use the reconfigure homebrew to change it to 333. works good as gold except wifi dosent work and wifi sometimes freezes psp.

UHM WAT???

Is it dangerous to "overclock" the CPU to 333MHz ? Will I "brick" my PSP ?

NO it will not brick/fry your PSP. I'll quote stonecut... "The PSP is designed to be run at 333MHz. That is, system bus, CPU, etc. all cater for the CPU to run at 333MHz. Before the actual PSP launch in Japan, Sony was having problems to provide a reasonable battery life when compared to its rival, Nintendo. Thus, Sony decided to underclock the CPU to 222MHz (bus speed of course will also be lowered) to make the battery last longer. So, setting your CPU speed to 333MHz will only drain your battery faster. There is also a rumor that the coming Jap version of GT4 (Gran Turismo 4) will actually clock the CPU at 333MHz anyway."
by - 2006-08-14 06:16:13
WELL

if it doesnt brick(kill) your psp then why not of using it???? anyways can someone give the download websites for v2.71 devulator??? thanks

help

i have a 1.5 version psp and have gta.cso working with devhook0.46 but the problem is it lags like a mother *****er so im trying the irshell method ..no luck trying to change cpu to 333mhz any help??? in 1.5 i boot to devhook and "changed" the cpu clock settings to 333mhz but it freezes after the psp loading screen , back to the main menu... then i gata take out battery when i open devhook in 1.5 and have cpu set to 222, it runs the game but laggy. If i do the same thing but dont launch the game and exit, the psp turns to 2.71 and i tried u guys' method by going to devhook (in 2.71) and doing the home+select to make 333.
