Homebrew contests are always fair game for everyone. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what the heck you do, there's always room for more entries and for you to master your own efforts at creating your very own homebrew games.

French sites XtreamLua.com and Gx-mod.com have just ended the submission period for their Lua-brewing contest and they have now drafted the finalists. In the roster, there are quite some eye-catchers already. Here's the first batch!

Puzzle by Fazerick:
Amazing how a Lua game could actually take so much time. Well, puzzle games tend to do that. And simple as the concept of this homebrew by Fazerick may be, it's one of the most classic puzzle games out there. Called "Puzzle" this homebrew involves a three-by-three grid of jumbled tiles. Just slide around the tiles until you arrange the pics into a whole image, and you're done!

StillGots - Image 1 StillGots - Image 2

StillGots by Dinacy:
For a Lua game, this is actually impressive. And for a while, you might actually believe that it's not done on Lua. StillGots is an action-RPG game from Dinacy in which you've got to collect three crystals in order to free your imprisoned lover, Lenna. As the levels progress, you're going to have to face it off with bosses in combat.

Sinucos - Image 1 Sinucos - Image 2

Sinucos by Nems:
Talk about lost in translation. We weren't able to make head nor tail of it at first, but after a while, it became simple. Sinucos involves you with just hitting the X button to progress in the game. Don't worry, you'll figure it out also. That's part of the fun. Programmer Nems says that he got inspiration for this game from a mobile phone mini-game.

Lua Teniss - Image 1 Lua Teniss - Image 2

Lua Tennis by Yahoum:
This game actually caught us off guard. Although it is called Lua Tennis, and that it's actually set on a tennis court, the game plays much like Pong or your classic arcade head-to-head challenger, Air Hockey. Despite this, Yahoum's homebrew is actually well done. One great thing about this game is that it has different modes. Two player (on the same handheld), single player, Player 1 vs. Ball-Throwing Machine, and a single-player tournament.

great pack

this is very high quality lua games. lua is getting a bad rep but it sometimes deserves it. people will create little mini games where as these actually aren't. this is a great pack and deserves some good praise.

suggestion

Anyone make something like a "Homebrew Battle Royal..."..round based game like that "poke the ??"...must be interesting.... features... 1.extraction of homebrew titles, icons, infos to generate the random seed(consider avoiding corrupted icons, including CSO/ISO icons must be more interesting...) 2.think of some moves, and effects like icon broken effect, fire, some sounds... 3.if can do, tune the random factor to let the higher version win over...(more interesting...) oops...just some thoughts....
