Wagic, The Homebrew ?! 0.4.1 - Image 1

After a cease and desist order from the mean 'ol lawyers of Wizards of Coast, wololo is back with a new version of Wagic, The Homebrew?!, this time free of all copyrighted material. The most obvious drawback is, of course, is that there aren't any cool card thumbnails anymore, but that shouldn't stop you from making your own (non-copyrighted!) cards.

Besides that though, this release has lots of new stuff, including 300 new cards, Sacrifice, new menus, and more. Here's the changelog:
  • More than 300 new cards, including cards from Tempest, Portal, and the new Conflux Expansion. Many thanks to Dr. Solomat for his work on Tempest and Portal. This means Wagic now officially has more than 1000 cards you can play with, not counting all the ones you can create by yourself (skyÂ’s the limit, yeah!). As usual, check the forums for more cards!
  • Wagic now handles Token generators such as the Hive
  • Sacrifice has been added (I know youÂ’ve been waiting for this one for a long time!)
  • New ability keyword: cloud
  • Lots of improvements in the card parser, new keywords, etcÂ…. Cards such as Siege-gang Commander, Bad Moon, or the hive can now be 100% coded in the _cards.dat files without having to know one single line of C++ (sacrifice, token generators, “lord” ability improvement, multiple abilites for one cost, moveTo,Â…)
  • Font fixes
  • New cool menus
  • Lots of improvements for cards shown in “text” mode
  • Too many bug fixes to tell

A shame

But I think this was bound to happen. The dev on this project did a lot of work and the PSP is really lacking good card battle type games on the commercial front, so it was definitely nice to see a dev try and bring it via brew. WotC flex their usual muscle and screw it up for everyone. For sure the code is still there, but without the card art and rules, I guess you might as well just go create something completely new and stand alone? Either that, or if there's an editor to allow you to add your own magic cards back into the mix then it's happy days I think. A good brew that's matured nicely. This dev should be applauded for his effort and persistance.

but like

is it a game? i mean. . do you play vs the computer? is it on the internet? do you pass the psp from person to person? . . . that just gave me an idea as irrelevant as it is great for a 2 player fighting game on PSP. . . "glue the console to a stick and then smack the ***** out of someone with it!". itll sell like seashells.

Yes it is a game

it is a 1 player game, you play against an AI. There is a two players hotseat mode too, but it is less convenient than the 1 player mode. The MTG cards and the rules are still included in the game. Cards graphics (which are copyrighted) is the only thing that has been removed.
