Homebrew developer Sakya has released a homebrew version of the popular "Triple Triad" game featured in Final Fantasy VIII (for the Playstation).

Triple Triad is a simple card game that involves obtaining as many of the opponents cards as possible, using a number system. It can be quite strategic and from my own personal experience of playing the original Playstation version, very addictive.

This version (v0.1.0) incorporates all of the graphics and gameplay of the original in a user-friendly environment. Although at the moment, your card deck is randomly chosen.

It has been developed using the PSP Python programming language and works as a general game.
Triple Triad is compatible with PSP Firmware v1.50.

» freaking sweet!!!

Thanks to PSP Brew, I am able to play a number of great homebrews on my 2.6 using the GTA eLoader. However, it doesn't always work. But for this game it worked like a charm.

How how I love this homebrew. FF8 is my favorite. I loved the mini game in the game and I love this one. It translates very well, feeling like the game itself. I suck at this mini as I did in the FF8 game though.

» YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!

THIS IS GREEEEEEEAAAAAA ATTTTTT!!!!!!

When Sony said they would be selling past PS1 games for the PSP I was thinking about actually getting FFVIII JUST for this triple triad thing...!!!!!

I really hope it works with the GTA firmware 2.0+ exploit.

Thank you very much!!

by allan_apple - 2006-04-28 07:18
» THANK YOU Sakia!!!

» OMFG

i'm such a retard i just updated to 2.7 arghhhh!! i wonder if they can make this game in flash(though probably not given how limited the flash is on the psp, i couldn't even see the flash portal at 1up.com)

» Cool Deal

» Cool

How about doing the FF9 card game? Loved that one

by PSProdigy - 2006-04-28 07:50
» Brings back memories

I loved this game in FF7.. in fact, I basically based the whole game around it after beating it once lol. So freaking fun and addictive. Good job! Does it actually have the same deck function in-between card games? So you could actually build up the deck and stuff?

» FF8

This was from FF8 actually. I know I'm going to get flamed or whatever, but I was once called AppledBlood Candystaff on the PSPUpdates forums before I was perma-banned and suggested this idea for Devs to try out. My thread was locked because it was branded a "request"...but I don't care, I think this is still a good idea and I hope they continue to update this wonderful homebrew. :)

For those who don't believe me. And no, I'm not trying to get credit for this in ANY way. I'm just happy someone actually put it together for the community. Great job!

» Figures

Figures I updated to 2.7 that stupid flash player sucks balls.

The 1st time i felt really disapointed for updating. I liked the Browser and crap so updated to 2.0, I liked the RSS so I freely updated to 2.6, I really wanted the flash player so i updated to 2.7, too bad that the flash sucks ass on the psp

by Gamerdude - 2006-04-28 09:12
»

Awsome I liked the FFVIII mini game! Oh sucks for the suckers who updated to 2.7 !

by coawrd - 2006-04-28 09:17
» awesome!

They should now work on uber-encrypting a game save file and start to make it multiplayer!

by Sephiroth1089 - 2006-04-28 09:27
» to the developer

if u implant music into it maybe u could find a way for any1 to place any song they want in a file and rename it so it would play while ur playing the game. other than that its great and good job

by comedy - 2006-04-28 09:36
» this is super cool

wow, really this is a cool ap. do all those ff fans out there know about sexypsf? cos if you dont, download it! you ought to know psfs are the final fantasy music files, and they're well small.

» yes

i owe you one. thanks

» enable background sound

I could not wait for bg sound so downloaded some nice ambient sound from modarchive.com and added these 2 lines to main.py in line 153 just before while True:

self.bcksound = pspsnd.Music("themes/" + self.userData.THEME + "/celtic.xm", 128, True)

self.bcksound.start()

and voila, really cool game with background music

by belab - 2006-04-28 10:15
» bg sound 2

sorry, this was my first python code,

maybe its better to put into line 132 under

"""Inizio gestione"""

def start(self):

by XyZZy - 2006-04-28 11:13
» belab's music addition

Does that particular piece of code only work with .xm files and not mp3's?

if so, what are xm files?

also, can i change the directory for the music file to be something simple like "themes/music.mp3" isntead of what you got there?

by me - 2006-04-28 11:24
» music

here's a link to the music that plays during this game:

I think you can't use mp3. Supported formats are listed here

» Thank you

Thanks for such an awsome homebrew, works great on 2.6 with the GTA loader(using the latest emenu too). I'm glad someone picked the good FF Cardgame to do, Square Did damned tetra master from IX on their Play online stuff, and want to charge an extra dollar a month to play it, Nuts to that. Great work, Looking forward to future versions.

by N - 2006-04-28 12:40
» made me think of...

awesome homebrew. this made me wonder if the old Magic the Gathering could be done the same way?

by wattywatts - 2006-04-28 13:16
» yes

This rules. i hope you keep going with it, maybe music, and getting to keep cards you win and what not. AWESOME!

by NeonLightning - 2006-04-28 13:32
» rockin

a few suggestions that i think alot of homebrew should do

setup a lobby system and a wifi multiplayer(lik e that one that was released today about cars could really use wifi) but have it just load up a irc channel that is purely for your client and have it just connect to your ip)

but anywho great app can't wait to see what will become of this in the future since its in python i don't know python but its nice to see something that isn't lua or a c guy just trying to show off that c is better

by linkboy - 2006-04-28 14:38
» Nice

I loved the card games from FF8 and 9.

9 had the better version though (that would be awesome).

by jbird - 2006-04-28 14:45
» dang it all i did it first...

Your's looks better anyway. I believe you!

by Sephiroth1089 - 2006-04-28 16:17
» belab's music addition

when i placed in the code

self.bcksound = pspsnd.Music("themes/FF7BOSS.XM", 128, True)

self.bcksound.start()

i had the FF7BOSS.XM in the themes folder but when i tried to run the program it would go to the load screen (the one with the chocobo) but then go back to the eloader? is ur method only for 1.5 or can 2.6 use it (i'm a 2.6 user) and i placed the code at line 132.

by NeonLightning - 2006-04-28 16:51
» not just eloader

i'm on 1.5 and it gets to probly about 20%(it looks like it) left and crashes

by Jabberwocky - 2006-04-28 16:57
» SWEET!

Holy sweet mother of pearl:O:D...lol. Someone actually did a FF based homebrew *claps loudly* . Nice man, really nice. After they did that BS FFXII community crap I had FF withdrawls :-S...lol . No, but serioulsy, good idea no matter if it was made first, second, or third

by - 2006-04-28 19:47
» belab's music addition

you can look in the python log file in psp root folder, may you can find out what went wrong

by yamabigdog - 2006-04-28 23:29
» 2.0 Confirmed

Dunno if it has all the functionalities as a 1.5, but it does work on my 2.0, using Eloader .97 Bock, with emenu.

by Sephiroth1089 - 2006-04-29 02:09
» Send me their file

» 1.00?

Why doesn't this work? why?!
