SnakeSP v6

Aaah! A snake! A snaaaake...

MrMr[iCE] bumped up SnakeSP to v6 today. While v5 was all about the sound effects, v6 throws in a music loop and added water-ripple visual effects. In case you're curious, the looping OST is a wav file in the "music" folder in the game's main folder.
MrMr[iCE] hasn't said anything yet about custom soundtracks, though, for anyone out there who's asking.

Now if you're curious about the graphic effects used in this game, MrMr[iCE] says they're all vector-art. Nothing is pre-rendered or pixeled here. The Wiki definition, abridged, is that the graphics are all done by math equations rather than by "dot-matrix" pixel. MrMr[iCE] says,

... Everything is drawn using lines and filled polygons. This lets me draw the objects at any scale. position and orientation, without worrying about pixel artifacts, like rotated bitmaps. And everything in the game is rendered with hardware. All I do is tell the psp when and where to draw, it does the rest.

Let's just say it looks good. fl0wish. Every Extendish. Trigo-warrish. Ah, you get the picture. Hungry for some snake?

Good game

This is a good homebrew game. I thought the music was a little too fast paced though. Can we put our own music?

.

One of my favorite homebrew games. Sometime I make the snake go up at a slight angle then leave it for hours so he sometimes hits "apples" he eventually fills up the whole screen. Three thumbs up Uber0ne

wanna mod the music?

Just make a wav file, in 16bit stereo, and replace music1.wav in the music/ folder. set it up as a loop, as the sound manager will keep running it in an infinite loop. you can do the same with the sound effects samples under the sounds/ folder
by - 2007-01-08 00:36:21
oh and do be careful

dont try replacing the wav file with something really big..it will try to load the entire file into memory, and keep in mind psp only has 24megs user ram, and some of that is being used by the game and other samples too +)

version :o

I didn't even know there was a v5 out =o But I've been playing v4 and love it, I'll download this as soon as I get home :)

awesome

one of my favorite and only homebrew game on my psp its so well made and done its worth putting on my psp unlike some of the rubish out there lol
by - 2007-01-08 01:14:02
coooool!!

This is actually the only homebrew game i have on my PSP right now, all other homebrew on my PSP is either emulators or organisation/flashing apps.. It´s the best snake port i´ve ever seen, also it gives me reason to just press pause and sit back, and just admire the lovely graphics design.

Good job!

I was thinking about writing snakes game myself and ... boo, I'll find something else to write. If it's indeed pure vector art, then it's +1 to technique bonus. :] Keep developing it, add features, and so on, but it is quite nice already!

Great

This is an awesome game. Just shows what the PSP is capable of! Thanks MrMr[Ice]. However, I can't seem to be able to access the 'Options' menu. Is it incomplete? If there is going to another release, here's a few suggestions. It should allow us change or select from a list of custom soundtrack, especially during the game. Perhaps even custom background/visualisers that change with level up.. Lumines-ish perhaps?... I'm not sure if the game has it already, I'd like an extra life food/bonus thing once in a while. Also, it would be nice if I could configure the sensitivity of the analogue stick. Thanks!
by - 2007-01-08 02:37:50
how do I play

I can't seem to control the snake. Pressing the dpad/analog stick/any other button has no effect. What am I doing wrong? I'm on 3.03 OE-A' using the 1.5 kernel.

awesome

i loved v4 of this game, but v5 was far too easy because of the purple pills, the ones that reduced body length - i could spend ages circling the centre of the screen waiting for something other than purple to appear which was also boring.... thats why i went back to v4 anyways i'll give this one ago, but im suspecting its still gonna be too easy and therefore boring

controls

Right now, only the analog left/right directions work for steering the snake. Also if you have the headphone remote plugged in, you can use the back and forward pad to steer, with play.pause to pause/unpause the game.

v7 is out

just down'd v7 - still to easy - and im not the worlds best gameplayer, to many purples, otherwise really good game
by - 2007-01-08 07:26:14
v4

yeah sorry im sticking with V4 im afraid the other versions are FAR to easy, i would play it for about 1 hour and still have a snake only 6 segments long thanks anyway :-( i think you should just get rid of the purple ones... the whole point of a snake game is to have a long snake and still try to play... thats the challange.
by - 2007-01-08 09:11:49
too easy

WOW these graphics are incredible and the gameplay is so fluid... IM quite disappointed with the easyness of this game though.. ITS not really a challenge... i have to agree with the guy above me. I downloaded V4 and its alot more fun to play and keeps my occupied more. This new version is so repetitive. but beautiful non the less.. Could you possibly release a sort of V7.5 without the purple things. i would really appreciate it. I could do it myself using the code you sent out but itd take me to long! Thanks i think alot of us would appreciate it!

by - 2007-01-08 12:03:28
