SnakeSP - Release 2 |
Ó
Wow, based on the jumps and comments it seems you guys really liked MrMr[iCE]'s SnakeSP, huh? Well, a lot of you must have pitched in really good ideas and constructive criticisms because MrMr[iCE] is back with the second release for his Snake game.A lot of the comments in the earlier post also said that the "snake" looks a lot like the wormy creature in flOw, and we must say, SnakeSP does look a lot like it, don't ya think? (See fl0w image on the right) So anyhoo, regardless of whether SnakeSP should be referred to as a flOw port (as some of you pointed out in your comments), bottomline is, SnakeSP dons amazing graphics that are rarely seen in homebrew games.
Changelog:
- Sounds added for when snake eats, and when it bumps into itself
- 3 lives, with life indicator. If you bump into yourself, you lose your tail, and a life.
- On last life the game will exit
- start button will pause the game
Some of you may recognize the sounds from chaos UT proxy mines. Im using them for now to test the audio, I'll replace with something else later, but for now enjoy the hilarity of their cute little chipmunk voices. I can switch to kernel mode and use the psp's built in gzip decompression, but thats a kmode only function, unless someone here knows how to call sceKernelGzipDecompress from a user space app..
Also, MrMr[iCE] says that he's noticed that there are times when a food item appears, the rendering stops and the screen goes blank. So if ever you guys encounter this, inform him about it via our forums (just click on the link below) because he's not sure if he was already able to fix that properly.

you guys need a life. anywho, this game rocks and i can't wait to see like the next release. i am testing this out. good work MrMr[Ice]
thing i dont like bout r1 is that if your snake went off the border then it was gone forever. havent tried r2. nice options would be speed options and ability for custom sounds.
Looks great but I can't figure out how to play.......
you just use the analog stick to steer the snake, if you want you can check out the previous version here: http://pspupdates.qj.net/SnakeSP-for-1-50/pg/49/aid/75625
Thanks Jex. I didn't pay attention when the game started and I didn't notice the snake left the screen. So when I looked at it all I saw was the little food appear and disappear. Once I went to the XMB and started the game again I felt stupid... this game is awesome by the way. :D
This is one of the best looking homebrew games out there with exceptional game physics, too. Thanks for the new release ! I think it would be a good idea to make it even more "fl0w"-like and even less of a Snake game, that way the gameplay could be expanded as this is much too good for such a simple gameplay idea as Snake, IMHO. And it should be fairly easy to shift focus, too ;) Other than that I'm really loving this. It's sooo pretty ;)
This game is great! Good job!
Nice one the sounds are funny and i like it very much :-D
this is great! Among the top homebrew games...if not the best! This and trigonometry wars r by far the best homebrew games our there!....considered adding multiplayer...and maybee a button that adds a boost for like hyper speed or something??? well good luck on further releases! ;D
This game is brilliant, absolutly amazing. I'm not normally into homebrew games but this is the best I have played yet, I definatly can't wait for the next release, I would rather the game didn't exit when you loose all your lives. But I can live with that for now. Thank you so much for this MrMr[iCE]
I can't believe that another release it out so soon. MrMr(ice) seems to be pretty intent on this project, i'm glad for that. This is going to be a stellar homebrew app when it's done. Keep with the updates and we'll keep with the imput... going to play release 2, peace out.
Confirmed working on 2.71 SEC by the way
yay, altho I would like to see suonds when you gain a part aswell and when new food spawns, should be doable ? :P
WOW This game is incredible keep up the good work man your really talented thanks so much im playing now!!! keep making it better but whatever you do dont go over board. simplicity is the key trust me, look how simple tetris is. but yet so addicted. as long as it has good gameplay the graphics dont mean *****
another quality game for my psp! this is DEFINENTLY GOING IN THE COLLECTION!!!! (my collections pretty hard to get into too!!!) so take that a compliment! Thanks man
I was actually playing this when I saw this article, coincidentally. It needs some fixes, though. 1. Boundaries. Or a camera that moves with the snake (ala flOw). The fact that the creature can go off camera and never be seen again is a HUGE issue. 2. Variety. Moving edibles? Different movement patterns? Etc. Take some notes from another PSP homebrew game, Trigonometry Wars: http://pspupdates.qj.net/Final-Trigonometry-Wars-Version-/pg/49/aid/62411 3. Music! Just steal the ambient music from flOw, and I'd be happy. It needs more than just those eating sounds and stuff. =/ 4. Don't just quit the game when you die... please... 5. More control variety? Again, take a cue from Trigonometry Wars and make it able to use the square/circle, L/R, D-pad, or analog, for example. Be creative. Maybe you could speed up when you pressed up? Slow down when you press down? 6. Random goodies! =D This is a little barebones to make me keep playing for long. Novelty and variety keep a game fresh. Not trying to be an ass; trying to be helpful.
i believe that is a great game as well. lol the simplest games make the most entertainment huh. love the added physics of how the snake flows. but i cant help but think that this game should be called centipede or milipede since there are lil antanae and legs on it. but great game too will look forward to the next release
one of the best homebrew games around easy
this is an incredible game.... it has alot of pottenial to be one of the best but i think you need to scrap the 3 lifes thing the original snake was good because once you died you died no 3 life bull***** but dont get me wrong this game is top times
I just found out about the first one from here and thought that it had awesome graphics but there was no way to loose but now there is so it is more of a challenge. I still think the vector art is so awesome, and it keeps the game a small size for those who don't have a larger memory stick. i have a 2gb so i don't really care but it is nice cause then i have more room for music and movies.
Yeah the name shouldn't be snake, i remember a calculator game for the ti-83+, uncle worm, it was kinda like this but there was a wall around the outside and if u hit yourself u lost but it had levels so once u got too long for the level u had to make your way tot he door, just an opening in the wall. and then the walls moved in so there was less space to move.
i think there should be a multiplayer mode (bots and try to work in ad hoc) where there is a set time limit, and you have to try and eat the most bleepy things. i think that would be cool. that and add an adventure mode, where there are obsticles and different backgrounds and music for each world. just my 2 cents.
Is 8,598,460 a good score? It'd be cool if you could have a high score table and maybe some way of uploading them to a site for comparison. That way you could make money with Google ads on said site and have money to keep homebrewing. This is a highly addictive game and I like it alot. On another note maybe you could incorporate some nice Trance music for it as the ghostly looking worm is very hypnotizing and relaxing to watch. Maybe you could get in touch with the guy who made Moppi Flower and use his background music(its a looped wav file). Either or it is still a great piece of werk! Cheers great werk and I am definitely looking forward to the next release. Keep it up man!
awesome game, but the sides aren't set boundaries, your snake can go off screen forever and get lost completely, lol
good looking game and quite addictive youve got my thumbs up .............psp rule.................
yep..coming up soon. im still pretty new to psp adio, so once i figure out how to manage multiple audio samples at the same time ill get that in
Once i get the menu going high scores are definitely gonna be part of it..maybe even a code system to enter high scores to a public page, ala Ikaruga
Best homebrew game of '06
new release is out, check it: http://forums.qj.net/showpost.php?p=1236668&postcount=103
wow this guy is one fast worker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! itll be perfect in no time it will soon be in the HALL OF FAME
I just got the new version adn its kick ass FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LISTENS TO WHAT US,(the gamers) HAVE TO SAY thanks so much dude this game is wiked
OH YEAH this is a great game ok, but please please please dont go adding a load of bull***** features and extras. keep it simple!!!! keep up the good work
lol scrap what i said earlier about adding walls. what you have done in the new version is so much better!!! (going off the screen and coming back the opposite side) i was going to mention that but i thought it would be to difficult to do top man
cmon, it's been a LONG time since a homebrew game got THIS much attention why do you have to spam the guys comments when he deserves praise for his work, not "first rofl omg!" gj to the creator :)
its looking good always liked these type games look forward to it gettin alot harder
you're the best +) im sure ull figure it out +D
cool to see you're planning on putting highscores in there, makes the game more fun IMO btw soopergooman, you been counting the posts up till now ? :P
Wow. This is really great. Here I am thinking quality homebrew games are all but gone, and then this great app comes out. This game sits among other greats like squares, AOTM, and trig wars. I cant wait for the next release : ) The only thing that i think needs changing is making the head tentacles stand out more so its easier to align with the food. Keep up the awesome work MrMr[iCE].
ITS QJ NOT GJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFLCOPTER!!!!!!
GJ means good job u moron
beautiful homebrew game!! if at all possible please make 2 versions of this game, hell maybe even a new game. maybe like a puzzle base game, where u do puzzles but also u must collect food to stay alive? just a thought it would be neat. keep on rockin! BTW best looking homebrew app
really good than the previous one. Can't wait for the next installment.. the one with the block or maze or somethin'.. hehe. - LB
He said that the next relese will have a menu well thats something this game needs and it will be near perfection :-D
