Second demo for Cave Story PSP |
Ó
A couple of days ago, homebrew coder ufo_z came up with the unofficial demo version of the video game Cave Story. We say unofficial because Variant Interactive last year mentioned that it is planning to port this freeware PC sidescrolling adventure title to the PlayStation Portable.
Despite that, we think that ufo_z's take on the project somewhat holds more water as the developer has gotten the approval of Cave Story owner Daisuke Amaya (Pixel). Anyway, this is the second demo released and a lot of improvements have been implemented since the last version.
ufo_z wasn't able to include a changelog for Cave Story PSP Release Candidate 1 but the following reminders were provided:
- Firmware 1.0: should work with no modification
- Firmware 1.5: needs kxploiting
- Custom firmware: (3.xx OE): should work with no modification; goes in the GAME150 folder
- Game saves: works with saves from the windows version; filename needs to be Profile.dat (case sensitive); (same for 290.rec)

first, you all suck.
It is really awesome to see ufo_z continue this! And that fact that Pixel gave him the go ahead is simply wonderful. ^_^ TAKE THAT VARIANT SOFTWARE! :D
oh WOW! that's an awesome game, have beaten it twice on PC ,can't wait the psp one now...superb!
YAY!
hey Ryan, just to let you know, this isn't a demo, it is the full game...yuo can play from the beggining to the very end =p
Great game, guys. I dont like many games but this one is really something...
Where did YOU come from, ufo_z? You are infinitely awesome and I love you forever. You just made my summer. Variant's version is probably vaporware, as their site is broken and old. Long live Pixel, and again, ufo_z, you are amazing. This port is rock-solid.
Simply amazing. Not only is it "pixel" (lol) perfect, but OMG all the sound and music too! If this were a commercial release (sanctioned by Pixel, of course) I'd buy it. But in the free spirit it was released, I shall enjoy. Just like I have the PC one. GOOD WORK!!
There are those who said this day would never come. What are they to say now? Best game ever, i've already sat down and played it for 5 hours. Thank you so much ufo_z.
Ditto to Meh. Change the headline. It's not a demo, it's a full-blown release candidate, and a Beta at the very least. You can play all the way from the beginning, through Hell, and to the end credits. Rock, rock on.
So, i rarely pick up new games from this site, unless they really jump off the page. I decided to give this one ago, thinking it was like the oooold PC RPGs that i used to love (Castle of the Winds). Turns out, that this is one of the BEST shooter side scrollers ive ever played. Ive played 30$ DS games that arent as good as this. The control is amazing, the weapons can be powered up and theres some sweet moves you can do with em. Its easy enough to get through the beginning, but hard enough so it doesnt feel like youre just going through the motions. This game is amazing, if you havent downloaded this yet, youre missing out on one of the best side scroller games for the PSP yet. Slap on a new coat of paint for this (graphically) and Sony could easily churn this out for a 40$ game that would rate 8 or better at any IGN or other review site.
This game has been so badly needing to be in your hands, and ufo_z, you are so many people's hero. Tell Pixel that so many more will enjoy his hard work over and over again. I know I will.
Did any of you guys manage to save Curly?
