PSPTris

Sandberg has just updated his Tetris clone, PSPTris to version 0.6. This one is a stand-alone version of the game, so it will work on all firmwares up to 2.6. It will be later released as a plugin for PSPRadio. There are quite a few bug fixes and new features.

Lets check out the fixes first:
  • The keyhandling are more responsive (quicker) in the game.
  • The blockhandling has been rewritten, so rotation etc. should work correct now.
  • Better handling when entering highscores (it automatically selects next position after having entered a character).
  • Updated the danzeff OSK so that it doesn't need the transparent images. This saves 1 MB of system memory. (the transparency still works).
  • Mute the music while the game is paused.
  • Update the bricks so that there are more differences in the colors.
Now for the new features:
  • New gametype has been added (matching colors).
  • Game instructions added to the menu.
  • A line counter has been added to the classic game.
  • Exploding effect added when removing lines/balls.
  • Sounds effects has been added to the game.
Attached below are a couple of screenshots.

» 14 columns?

Isn't there supposed to be just 10 columns in Tetris? Also, it would be nice if the piece could be rotated in either direction.

» um yea thats the ticket

Hi Sanberg, Kudos on the Great tetris game, I was wondering though is there any way for the user to put their own music in it? Tetris is nice(music) but after a couple hours it can feel like torture. Any chance that you could add the two other original soundtracks or a new Re-Mixed theme song. I will go and find a remixed version for you. Cheers to ur great work!!!!

Cheers to you and Raf, without you two, I would've updated long ago!!!

» another one for the team

nice game,

i have a few sugestion:

the gameplay feel a bit unresponsive,

could you reproduce the lumines control response timeS?

also, the blocks are coming down rather slow

another sugestion is an exit option to the main menu when you are inside playing,

I like the game music though

this is just my 2 cents

@2 : Yep, the original Tetris had 10 columns, but this is not the original :)

@6 : I'll look into how Lumines works (the only game I've got for my PSP :) ) .. About the speed of the falling block. This is on purpose, it'll increase as you progress through the levels. You can always use the UP key to drop the brick, or the down key to move faster.

» Great piece of homebrew.

Although the last release was great, this one is far better. (as it should. heh)

The only other changes/additions I would suggest would be:

1) The addition of sound fx for the rotation of the pieces, and when you complete a line.

2) As was suggested before, have one button to rotate the blocks clockwise, and another to rotate them counter-clockwise.

3) Also, as #4 suggested, the addition to other soundtracks would be nice. (I must admit that the supplied BGM is quite catchy though.)

I feel that these additions would make a great homebrew even better.

Keep up the great work! :)

» Nice work.. But..

Nice work so far, Sandberg

I Have a little rant however about the sensitivity of the pieces, they tend to either change way to fast.. meaning one pressing makes a piece turn over too many time or it seems that the change is somehow random but this could be due to the sensitive settings… Otherwise having the piece turn Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise all the time would feel a bit more natural.

Rant #2 it seems when the pieces are descending it is a bit jumpy and does’t feel speed… maybe adding some effects as it goes down… I suggest playing Tetris for NES on an emulator to see what i mean.. I mean it’s not that bad but the falling effect might need some tweak…

Good points so far is the music remix is actualy pretty kewl, colour palettes are pretty nice… I’d like to see in the future changing palettes after a certain amount of levels… Or Some sorta themed palette for each difficulties…

Well, eitherways nice work and i can’t wait for the next improved released of your game..
