It's kind of sad to see that rail shooters like Rez don't see as much exposure as they're properly given credit for. This is probably why developer hardhat decided to hype up the genre with the release of the PlayStation Portable homebrew game, Resonate.

This underwater rail shooter places you in the shoes of various aquatic life forms as you grow and evolve until you become the undisputed king of the ocean. The latest build of the game, version 0.57, includes several tweaks which noticeably improves gameplay. One of the previously released versions also included a separate level editor, which was released for both the PC and the Mac platform.

Anyway, here are the various changes implemented since our previous coverage of Resonate:

version 0.57
  • fixed boss damage visualization
version 0.55
  • new compo title screen with water drop special effect
  • new main level which is easier for Meyitzo but still interesting
  • now fight against the tall ship of doom to free the sea (boss fight)
  • moved old main level to version0_45
  • Intel Mac level editor now available
  • added model preview in the level editor
  • increased the number of supported enemies to 512
  • increased the memory used by the CFW build to 20MB for bigger sounds, etc.

You can download the main game and the Mac level editor through the links we've provided below. For additional details on the game's different features, as well as instructions on how to properly install it into your handheld, you can read all about them in the readme.txt file included in the file bundle.

If you're still unsure still whether or not you want to try out this interesting homebrew title, you can satisfy your curiosity by watching the video below.
