R-Gear: Tribute to R-Type Released |
Listed in: Homebrew Games Tags: animation, Neoflash, PS2, psp homebrew games, r-type
Ó
Froggies Prods and TiTAN Handheld Division have released their entry for the Neoflash competition today with a tribute to the popular PS2 title R-Type. R-Type is a fast-paced side scrolling space shooter and is exactly what you can expect from R-Gear, the homebrew equivalent. Any fans of the good old R-Gear will love this, or for that mater any Space Invaders fans too. Who isn't a Space Invaders fan?
This game has taken a lot of effort from both Froggies Prods and the TiTAN Handheld Division and it shows in the quality of this game. The graphics, animation, explosions and sound effects are close to perfection. This is the kind of title you'd expect to buy, not to have for free! Download this, have endless fun - it's as simple as that.

great game, reminds me the good old school when people at Team 17 were still coding demos for the A500.
those days when people were able to squeeze a 7mhz machine, to the maximum, giving us good stuff all the time
happy memories of the old school... :)

There are, however, still some kinks in it.
1. It's too hard. I'm no noob to SHMUPs, but this is just a crazy level of difficulty to start off with. It needs more variation in difficulty.
2. The time to restart after dying is inexcusable. I spend ten seconds in menus for every ten playing.
3. Lack of options.
Overall, it's frugging beautiful and well-done, though. Good job.

I agree with #19: The menu's don't let you skip them, which pisses me off because I want to spend my time trying to get farther into the game, rather than looking at the menus for 30 seconds every time I die, however often it may be (And it's a lot).
Very cool none-the-less, but with the difficulty this high, I had to put it down.

Though I do fine without it, Just get used to charging up your shots all the time and charging energy (seems to be the same thing buy u can move faster charging the other 1.

is there a file that needs to be tweaked? Im sure that splash screen has something to do with it as it boots to that then makes another call to get to the game. perhaps a simple patch?

its a hard game but use the left shoulder button to slow things down a tad.
This is the 1st homebrew title i have played and its a really polished game

IS NOT A PS2 TITLE FFS LEARN SOME SODDING GAMING HISTORY.
Now that i got that off my chest.
The game is way to hard for home use,
yes i understand that its in respect of the original R-TYPE
But some sort of difficulty setting option, would of been a bit nicer
Or at least Continue options, i mean come on, this is a home brew game, not a arcade game that people have to put money into when they want to play again
Other than that, fu;ing good job, love it
Just wish you could skip the intro on start up, an you could get back into the game faster after you died
