Ó

BattleJewels was coded by skeezix - Image 1There's something about puzzle games that just wouldn't go away. The gameplay in itself is addicting already, add to this the colorful pieces, jewels so to speak, and their chime-like sounds whenever you complete all the pieces.

Homebrew developer skeezix released a new game of this nature called BattleJewels. This is not, an ordinary puzzle game, mind you, as several new components have been added to it. As the coder himself mentioned, you can play a puzzle game for as long as you want but not in BattleJewels. skeezix describes this game as a combination of a classic puzzler with head-to-head combat based on a simple RPG engine.

Here, you get to match gems and at the same time go battle it out with your opponent pretty much like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. The RPG engine, on the other hand, allows players to gather gold, buy some gears, and even level up.

BattleJewels was originally coded for GP2X but skeezix decided to make a "debug test" port for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The Read link below will you to the coder's personal page for more instructions and other details.

awful

It is just a bad rip-off of puzzlequest; i have no problems at-all with homebrew but his is really serious theft of the creativity of a small game-production-house...

Mad-man is a rip-off

ahh... You make it sound like Puzzlequest is a new revolutionary game that invented a new genre. Puzzlequest is a bejeweled clone. I'm guessing you have never heard of Tetris either. dumbass

Give credit

This is a blatant rip off of the game Puzzle Quest, one of the best games for the PSP. The game's a blend of Bejeweled and RPG. http://www.gamespot.com/psp/puzzle/puzzlequestchallenge/index.html?q=puzzle%20quest&tag=result;title;1 The game play is simple but ridiculously addicting. If you like this homebrew, get the real game, it plays much better. I love homebrews but when they just blatantly rip concepts without giving ANY form of credit that's pathetic. Even the icons he uses to represent the different "jewels" are ripped straight out of the game. It's one thing to say this from the "Bejeweled" genre and it's another to completely, concept for concept, copy someone else's work.

Woot for flamage

I'm the author of Battle Jewels.. Too naysayers.. chill :) Yes, go buy Puzzle Quest; its fantastic, and they deserve a lot of credit. I bought PQ too :) Nice to come down on people who give things to you for free, nincely hand tuned :) I suppose no one has ever seen something similar to another before. Never seen a FPS other than Wolfenstein... Otherwise.. I started this some 5 months or so ago, before PQ hit; furthermore, they did not invent the gem swapper (they've been arond for decades, made popular by Waki and Maki back in 1990 or so, even on the Newton PDA!). They did do a good mashup for sure, a very nice mix of genres. (Course, they should've made it a little better looking, especially the NDS version.) Now, my game is different; they both share the battle puzzle game (which neither of us invented thanks), and they went really RPG (quests, overworld, taming monsters, etc), whereas mine is more straigh comat.. I was mixing Street Fighter and battling with jewels, and some RPG elements. Different focus. My spells are more damage and such oriented, no ***** footing around. Anyway, the PSP is not the main target; I thought you'd like it.. if no one want sit, I don't have to build it for the PSP, no biggy to me either way. But I do believe some like it... anyway, this build was for a friend, since he didn't have the other handhelds I target, and he wanted to play. So keep replying.. if you all hate it, fine, I'll stop it. BTW, its almost entirely new artwork; certainly nothign from PQ if thats what you think. It is a compliment to be compared to PQ though, so thanks I suppose; thats a very good game. jeff (There are some serious bugs in the PSP version of PQ though; the companions do nothing.. a shame, and they seem pretyt upset with that bug themselves :(

You're welcome :)

PQ is inexpensive; feel free to buy it. Its very good. Course, no one twists you're arm to play my game either. (In fact, I didn't even post the news to this site.. they just found out about it on their own.) Woowoo for freedom of choice :) jeff

LOVE PQ

I will have to give this a try - anything PQ or BEJEWELED like is great in my book.
