PSP Quake 1 v1.0 - Image 1Homebrew developer jurajstyk has come out with PSP Quake 1 version 1.0, which is based on the PSP Quake port of Peter Mackay and Chris Swindle. This application allows players to play through the game through single player and adds a few features, such as Music playback through MP3s and multiple screen resolutions in software rendering.

Here are the working features of this port as taken from the documentation:
  • Music playback trough MP3 implemented with MAD audio library (can be switched on/off from options menu)
  • Software and Hardware rendering.
  • Single player game
  • Sound
  • Save/Load
  • Console commands
  • Command line params (through 'quake.cmdline' file)
  • Multiple screen resolutions in software rendering (trough command line params)
  • User made maps loading (from console or command line params)
  • User made mods loading (through command line params)
  • Demo recording and playback (from console)
  • On Screen Keyboard
The developer jurajstyk did mention that the application still has a few issues such as certain mods or maps not working due to memory constraints. It was also pointed out that the timerefresh command has been disabled and that certain maps require raising the "r_maxsurfs" and "r_maxedges" parameters so that it renders correctly in the SW client.

If you plan on trying out this port, you have to have the .bsp map files from either the shareware of full version of Quake. Be sure that you go over the entire documentation included as well to avoid any problems while installing and playing the game.

# Can't get it werking on Slim :(pwandz 2007-11-10 23:18
Obviously kernel mode on this is designed for 1.5 firmware capable PSPs, so that rules me out - the user mode builds both also fail to work.. the hardware rendered one fails as it's loading the Necropolis demo, the software render fails the line before THAT. Then they lock up the PSP and it turns off :(

Anyone successfully got this running on a Slim w/ M33 firmware yet? Any secrets?

I have 3.71 m33 and It fails to work, but If you were to run 1.5 using the pandora method the program runs flawlessly.

# Cool...works on my slim 3.71M33-3redbrick 2007-11-11 10:17
Works for me. I used the HW-UM version. I'm just having trouble with the controls. I would like the nub to function as a mouse to look only not move. I use the symbol buttons to move and strafe..

Good work. (My first post, I really like this site)

I got it running by running the vis function on the maps in the .pak files;)

Hope this helps someone other than just me :)
