Homebrew coder SG57 is back with a new update for Light Cycle 3D, a homebrew game based on Tron's futuristic two-wheeled Light Cycles. The latest version has added new features and more bug fixes.

Version 2 changelog:
  • You can now turn while looking to the side and behind you.
  • You can now skip the AI dukin' it out amongst themselves after you die by pressing Select (onscreen instructions say this as well)
  • The gameplay now speeds up to 3x the pace after you die to speed things up - enjoy seeing who won in fast-forward.
  • The race now starts when I say 'Go!', ready or not!
  • Fireworks for the winner! Hazahh!
  • Fixed a bug where cycling through your mp3's too fast would cause a crash - it is no more, cycle as fast as you want
  • Tweaked the lighting of many things to more illuminate the playing field and tracers/rails.
  • Extended the flare trail you leave behind you
  • More graphical tweaks here and there (moved the tracers down a bit, etc.)
  • Adjusted sound effect levels to balance them with the music level.
  • Replaced the name of an AI; it was tasteless, dry humor. I hope those who it upset can forgive me.

» AI improvements, Mr. SG57?

I really enjoyed the original Light Cycle game, very impressive for a homebrew game. Visually, it was stunning (very impressed with the camera swing.) I'm eager to download the new version.

I would like to recommend that you try some more options with the AI in a future release? I'd like to see some AI options, maybe have sliders for how "aggressive" racers are in seeking out other opponents or how "careful" racers are in conserving the grid and making turns without drawing themselves into a box. Maybe even per-racer AI options to give some variety to how you play a round.

Nice work!

» AI much better in v2

Just wanted to comment back after playing the latest update, it plays much better this time. The AI provides a lot more challenge and this plays much more like a game now. Congrats.

» Amazing

This is GREAT, I am very happy to see an update on this.

And about making custom level textures, I just replaced the classic one.

If anyone wants it, it is a VR theme, similar to MGS VR missions level textures.

I'll be making more.

» ALSO

There is still a color bug... the red scale does not work, AND, it doesn't matter what you set the RGB values to, the color stays the same shade.

(For instance, 0,10,10 is the same as 0,255,255)

» very cool

great tweaks!

for a homebrew title i'll give it a 9 for sheer fun.

if you want the 10 you'll need to put in adhoc/multiplayer mode and somehow boost the framerate - maybe even a *****pit view option ;P
