Minecraft addicts can now do a bit of mining and crafting on their PlayStation Portables thanks to LameCraft, homebrew coder Drakon's entry to the PSP Genesis homebrew competition.

"This is first public version so there are probably some errors," explains the dev. "Before deadline I'm planning to make a lot of improvements - sounds, more blocks, day/night system, crafting.... etc. All my tests were made on PSP Slim/Phat with custom firmware."

This homebrew game comes in two flavors -- signed and unsigned. Just choose the one suitable for your PSP handheld. If you do find come across any bugs, you can contact the dev through his website or at the QJ.NET forums. You can also watch some videos of early builds through the source link below.

minecraft is the perfect portable game, simple graphics, simple controls. I am surprised it took this long to make a version for the psp. I hope it eventually becomes a fully functional clone.

Why would anyone release and unsigned version if the signed version works on all psps, even hacked ones?

For people who have updated their psp's to the latest firmware, that's why there is an unsigned version

Unsigned doesn't work on official firmware... signed works on ALL.

This is great, its actually very similar, very good job.

Continuing this is a must! Minecraft being portable would just be AWESOME =D

next thing that should be added is modifiable controlls, as I found the defaults to be a bit weird, donno why.

I wonder, can the render distance be increased? or is that the max of the psp's graphical capabilities?

The map has an unusual limit. The map just "ends" and you can free fall off it. Hope the coder can mimic the "endless stream" of land.

When I move my character with analog stick, he keeps moving by himself.
Am I the only one who has this bug?

Much better than that 2D one. Can't wait for a full port though. Minecraft on the go!? The next best thing since potable water. Wonder if the Betas can be ported over at some point? Unsure of the whole Java-to-Lua conversion process. I don't mind having to lose 500MB or so for it :)

I believe he's using newly created code and not porting code from MC. So I doubt it'll be as easy. He'll probably need to make new code to mimic the Beta's features. Also seeing as the map is small, I would guess this might not improve much without little tricks in the code enabling items to only appear at a certain time, because it seems that the PSP's (memory cache?) is not large enough to store as many items as the PC can.

I was unaware of that... I know PC Minecraft requires like a 75MB download of java code and resource files, it's not just the tiny 3XXkb executable. Would be really cool to toss it through a compiler for Lua :/ Really don't mind the space necessary, but graphics might be a problem, you ever launch off a chain of t.n.t? Good luck with that lol

Yeah, it would be nice if you could just toss code from another language into a converter.

Is there anymore blocks to it?? It doesn't look like there is any inventory or anything like that! If there isn't that many blocks, maybe add a mod that gives you all that?!?!
