After months of anticipation, homebrew coder dan369 has finally released the first version of PSP Mario - The New Worlds. The homebrew game based on the classic Super Mario Bros. is now out of beta and is a total recode from the previews version. Notable features of version 0.01 includes classic HUD, complete animation, tilemap levels, play either as Luigi or Mario, classic sound effects and more.

Feature list:
  • Classic HUD
  • Complete mario/luigi animations (including death animations, turning animations & flag animations)
  • Full goomba A.i
  • Tilemap levels
  • Now completely uses tile based collision.
  • Play as Luigi or Mario
  • Brick Block & ? Block animations.
  • Classic sound effects.
  • And loads more smaller touches.
Game Controls:
  • Start - pause/un-pause
  • X - jump
  • R Trigger - run (only when holding down the trigger will the player run, otherwise it walks)
  • Analog/left & right direction pads = move
Here's a little sneak peak of the game. Just a little note from the dev, the footage was shot using RemoteJoyLite which records at 30 fps, but rest assured that the game runs at constant 60 fps. Enjoy!

» I think

I'll just play my ROM's until this is complete.

It is a great project, that is for sure.

Though I do ask, since they are tilemap levels, is everything customizable with a tilemap editor?

if so, I could have some fun with this...

» Just downloaded

And I gotta say, this looks pretty neat, I see some customization power here...

Hoping for a map editor.

It can be done pretty easily, like CSPSP's Map Editor.

Oh dear no. The movement is so far off a Mario game. The jump looks similar but it's not perfect either.

» interesting,

but where are the "new worlds?" These are exactly the same as in the original.

» to everyone

maybe if your more specific it would help. The movement is fine imo,

@0m3GA ARS3NAL - editor gunna be released tonight ;)

@sickofitall - the level is more so just to show off what i can do. Because the first level contains the core components it was a good starting point, in due time more levels, will be released :).

It looks really poor, like most homebrew games.

» That is the thing

He is releasing a Map Editor...

And once he gets some more "Up To Date" obstacles, like Bullet Bills that spawn from the edge of the screen, and things like that, then we could make some pretty tricky levels... Ever Seen Super Mario Forever? Ever tried beating it? It is hard, but I did it 2 times so far, look it up on youtube, it is pretty cool.
