We're not certain if you've heard about this one already before but a couple of the many projects of homebrew developer kgsws are PSP Doom and PSP Heretic. It's needless to say that these are PlayStation Portable adaptations of the FPS classics Doom and Heretic.

Currently, PSP Doom is at version 0.6 while PSP Heretic is at v0.7. kgsws mentioned , and we agree, that the best feature this has to offer is the multiplayer ad hoc for two players. The coder also added a four player support but that hasn't been tested as of yet. The following changes have occurred since the last versions.

PSP Doom v 0.6 and PSP Heretic v0.7:
  • Sound Volume: its value is controlled by distance of its source.
  • Puff Bug (engine bug): puff does not appear when projectile (bullet, not rocket etc) hits two-sided wall under sky.
  • Weapon selecting: old weapons selecting was making multiplayer out of sync (and heretic does not have any switcher)
  • Sky colormap (engine bug?): when in GOD mode (no cheat) everything except sky was in different color
PSP Heretic v0.7:
  • Added weapon switching
  • Fixed sound bug of imp (that red fling monster)
  • Added cheat menu in singleplayer
  • Added CPU settings in options

one thing i think should be fixed is when you play the full version of doom it crashes after displaying the second screen (screen with credits).someone should get the help file so no1 has to hurry and choose their game b4 it freezes. and for that matter, they should make it so ultimate doom works, so the 4th episode can be played :)

BOD when exiting Heretic... And no music at all. Anyway, nice port. The best FPS I've ever played is DOOM, on a 386 - 40Mhz..., and I was almost shocked when I saw Heretic for the first time on my am486dx4 - 100Mhz. Nice times, wonderful games.

I think this is crazy. PSP is able to do all these things, but every update from Sony locks out homebrew more and more. Also, its just not them taking homebrew away. You void the warrenty if you switch faceplates. ??? You have to remove the warranty sticker to get the last screw. Why are they trying to scare us into not doing all these things? Profit loss? That might be it, BUT.... The upgrades are SOFTWARE upgrades, no new hardware. What are they hiding? The PSP has been cracked to run PC games to genesis to N64 to Playstation. LISTEN. ITS A MASTER SYSTEM AND WE"VE EXPLOITED IT! It can even go wireless. Think. Wireless? Master system? ITS A MOTHER FU**ING COMPUTER!!!!! NOT A GAME SYSTEM OR AN MP3 PLAYER! You could do anything. Even crazier. Say it holds file that can be transferred through usb or wireless. A hacker's dream. Sony screwed up and they know it. :)

how does this release compare to playing Doom that came out for the GBA emulated on the PSP? The GBA games look and play so much better on my PSP than on my GBA.

# I'm gonna sing the doom song!Guest 2007-07-10 12:10
This takes advantage of the PSP's screen resolution, 480*272, whereas the GBA Doom is at GBA rez, 240*160.

How large is the PS1 Doom, akuma2099? A few hundred MB? The PC port is tiny.

Thanks kgsws!!

this was one of the first homebrew/ports ever on the psp... its a legacy, people. not only that, but doom does in fact take up the less space out of all various versions :]

Wow... your intelligent. Your IP is logged when you visit and post on websites. Since Sony is well aware of this site, I'd probably not mention you have more than 100 iso's stolen from the internet. Not exactly a smart decision, though you are so 1337.

BSOD when playing doom.wad, but works with doom2.wad. Doom 2 have no sound. :-( DOom have one of the best music of all games, sometimes I open Doom 2 on Xbox only to listen to the original music. :-D

Anyway, great port, great speed and keep up with the good work.

And Heretic is a good game, I used to play it when I was young.
