If it weren't for Borg Queen X's tip to us, we'd have completely missed this little tidbit of information on RealTechVR's No Gravity homebrew game. According to a post on RealTechVR's webpage, it seems we should all expect some No Gravity action by the end of June.

The game has apparently gotten some large improvements since we last talked about it in March, so here's the official word from the developers, according to their post:

No Gravity is aimed to be released for end of June 2007 (gold version is planned for 20th of June). Half of the new levels (seven episodes of five totally new levels) are completed, cinematic are done and the engine was improved since the demo version.

There are a lot of new features like levels on planets, new and improved weapons, improved audio and much more! No Gravity will be EXCLUSIVE for PSP Homebrew Compatible (no commercial version is planned).

While we wait, feel free to try the No Gravity demo linked above, and save some space on your PSPs for this upcoming masterpiece of homebrew entertainment.

» Bout Fu*king Time

For those of us who are pricks that don't like to pay for psp games and don't have the coding talent that legends like Fanjita and Dark_Alex have, this game is a boon to us. If Sony had any common sense at all, they'd buy out the team that makes the No Gravity game, and charge us all say $34.99 for it and make it their own.

The demo is a masterpiece. I can't wait to see the full version game come to life. Just think, 3 decades ago, we were sitting in our buddies basement playing Pong thinking that it was the most intense game ever and not even thinking about it ever being possible to surpass that level of gaming. Fortunately, the nerds gave birth to hackers and coders and we are living in the future via this game (along with many others) that continue to improve and test the limits of creativity and entertainment.

For the No Gravity team, you earned my respect, and for anyone out there who thinks they can beat this level of graphical mastery, I say prove it. Until a more powerful handheld system comes out, No Gravity has set the standard to impossibly high. Thank you for the demo. All of us in the psp homebrew community look forward to your work.

» Think Sony, Think!!!

I agree. Sony could be doing so much more for the PSP by simply paying attention to some of the outside efforts like this. Don't know too much about this stuff but wouldn't it be possible to make this game downloadable and run like the offical demos they put out? If the developers want it to be free then that would be a great way for them, and Sony to get the most out of this!

Oh well...

Great effort though!!!

QJ, you forgot to add this:

on this link: you can download the sourcecode of the early no grafity stage:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nogravity/

and here is how they developed it:

Some questions about No Gravity on PSP developement

We are using DevKitPro (recently updated to Release 9) and Visual Studio as editor.

We started from the No Gravity codebase in October 2006,

It was working almost 1 month later, but we wanted to redo some graphics because the one dated back from 1996.

I've also refactored the code in order to remove some legacy code (the original code was not using T&L for example) , extract the object data from original package, and re-optimize it (polygon stripping and all the stuff)

re-exported all the objects to a better format for the PSP (fixing alignement problems), rewrite a new 3DS Max exporter for the objects, new 3DS Max plugin for creating level, redone the menu, some graphics that fits the 480x272 resolution.

Then most of the developement was done on PC, with 90% of truly crossplatform, with an OpenGL implementation using the same data than the PSP (using OpenGL 2.0 in order to properly emulate with some nVidia extensions).

We had to rewrite the 3D engine, the graphics engine, sound engine (there is only a low level sound system on PSP), the file streaming (in order to quickly load data from disk), and a lot, a lot of optimisations.

I got all this info from the forums.

Thats all btw

» nice, its coming soon!

Best homebrew game ever!!.... besides... trigonomatry wars?

by NeilR - 2007-05-30 00:08
» best + subjective

What's "best" is highly subjective. It's safe to say that this is on the high end of the homebrew game scale though... right up there with PSPR, Squarez, Treasure of Pharaoh, etc..

» wow

I somehow missed the demo release of this game and just played it today. This has to be the most impressive thing I've seen. I'm definitely showing this to my one buddy who just bought a psp doesn't want to go custom firmware since he doesn't think he'd use it. It makes me want to try my luck at psp coding.

Can't wait for the release in a month.

» This game kicks 4SS

I loved the demo and thought it was professional quality. I am certainly surprised that the team who is developing this game is releasing it for free, considering that it will likely rival commercial PSP games.

by kapusta - 2007-05-30 06:37
» Commercial homebrew?? Yeah!!

The game is amazing, and i think i will donate the authers smth.

I think PSP scene needs commercial homebrew. Everyone can afford to donate 2-3 bucks for a gooood homebrew game like this, +sony will have competition with homebrew coders, so sony will have to pay more attention on umd games.

by borgqueenx - 2007-05-30 06:48
» its simple

everyone likes this game, its impossible to say that this game is bad.

Its is simply the best homebrew game for the psp, nothing beats it.

» yo bacon

when i played this demo, i thought, "No way has someone coded this..." but just think what the future will be for a custom firmware PSP if more people developing games like this...

All i can say to this game is "Fooking Amazing"

Well done you coders!

by elyardj05 - 2007-05-30 10:37
» i wonder

not being nasty but this game seems to be a plot stolen from a gizmondo game called insteller flames, which has a detialed gameplay and can challenge this to every extent

by pspfreak101 - 2007-05-30 11:17
» ......

I thought this game was O.K yes the graphics are nice but its the game play that counts. anyways can't wait for the next release

by W. Jones - 2007-05-30 12:14
» I think the only thing that needs to be changed....

I think the only thing that needs to be changed is the flying stars that zip by you. I think the game is really anoying to play having that on there. The stars should stay in the game, but they should not move when your plyaing. Other than that, this gasme is awesome! Good work No Gravity team and I'm looking forward to the final version at the end of June.

by Gadwin - 2007-05-30 13:20
» Nice nice!

I have the demo, and enjoy it much. Its slightly confusing as per the ammo goes, but its overall good and I haven't gotten a seizure yet, so thats a good sign lol.

This game is pretty damn spankin and I would think about approaching a company that is willing to pay you guys to make another game like this and publish it.

by xxxxxx - 2007-05-30 13:45
» xxxxx

this game is simple and is quite pointless But it is still a awesome homebrew its all 3D and it looks like a real game i though the creators gave up on it cause havent heard much info...but im glad its still going. Btw i never beaten the Demo it said there was one more objective but couldnt find it to get to the next level maybe a glitch? but w/e

by DJ - 2007-05-30 18:07
» dude...

here is a way to convince him. tell him and SHOW him abbout irShell (the remote feature), show him zero grav, tell him that he can play ANY game system that is older than the psp (the psp IS the ps2 in case he asks and the dreamcst doesnt count, no need for GC either), and show him that you can actually play free games on the psp (just as long as you buy it if you really like it), show him the customized XMB, and show him that you can play mp3 music anywhere on the psp. THEN, ask hi if his psp can do any of the above. If he answers no, then walk away and say "Then you should care about homebrew"

by DJ - 2007-05-30 18:10
» DANG!!!!!!!!!

Sounded like a looot of work!

by DJ - 2007-05-30 18:14
» nah...

no glitch, it just appears to.its in the meteor rock. gotta shoot it. i finished all of the levels.

by DJ - 2007-05-30 18:16
» maybe...

its the other way around. Maybe no gravity was original.

by DJ - 2007-05-30 18:20
» best graphics on homebrew?

true. Best on the entire psp games? false. go play the Ford Street Racing - L.A. Duel and you will think that you are playing on an xbox360! Honestly, i dont think the game dev have really pushed the graphics of the psp to the highest.

by borgqueenx - 2007-05-30 18:43
» hey...

i played the demo, and i finished it.

Yeah, i also got stuck at that level, just shoot the floating meteors, in one od them is the thing u need to destroy.

And what the creator also said: levels on planets.

what could that mean???

by Neonix - 2007-05-31 06:50
» Best.. Homebrew.. Ever

» Now for the next step

Aside from the fact that this is the best homebrew demo out there, we need something a bit more physical. I propose...

Vagina 2.0! Where you download your favorite porn scene and it puts YOU in the player seat. Literally! By attaching Vagina 2.0 to your (um, cat, lol not really but you get the idea) you can actually control the game. Get extra points for endurance and finally, the money shot.

Warning, the manufacturers of Vagina 2.0 are not held responsible for cyber sex which involves but not limited to Elector-Gonohreah, e-AIDS, e-Herpes, or any rash/rugburn that may result by using said attachment.

How's that for off the wall?
