Darksoft's first entry into the NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition is one heck of a game for two days of work. It's called Hexaxis XXI and, in a way, it's a mash-up between Lumines and Tetris.

Like Tetris, you get a vertical array of blocks you have to match together, though you're trying to set up large chains of blocks like in Lumines. The removal of blocks comes straight from Lumines, however, in that blocks disappear when the vertical bar passes by them once they're matched up to a group of similar numbers. What makes this game so much more different is that you're actually rolling dice, so positioning them to match means that each block comes up as one of six numbers you can manipulate like dice. The higher the number of the block chain, the greater the multiplier to your score.

Below are the directions for playing the game, as well as a video for trying it out. As this is update four, Darksoft notes that future updates just need to overwrite any existing files as they are full versions of the game unto themselves.

Controls:
D-Pad: move dice left, right and down; up forces the blocks to roll downward
Square, Circle, Cross, Triangle: rotate the grid
L and R Triggers: zoom in and out
Select: Exit Game

Have to say, this is rather impressive for a Homebrew App. Really do like the gameplay concept

This looks quite promising. Puzzle games are great fun if they appeal to users and so far its looking great ;)

» very nice

This looks very good, animations are perfect!

Gameplay seems hard to master, reminds me of devil dice which has undoubtedly been a source of inspiration.

I hope that when a 1 is connected to a disappearing block, all other 1 disappear and let everything above roll or slide one floor under.

Anyway that's a good idea you had there, I'm waiting for this one.

» cool game

Cool game but will probably loose out to a 2d app and Dr Neo wont somehow figure out how to run the damn thing like usual.

Yay competition

» mindless rambling...

as nifty as this is it most likely wont win because of the type of game it is. When you look at the # of dls for luamines which is a pretty good clone of lumines, and then look at how much more you have to do; you will notice that these type of games aren't very popular.

» i agree also...

Just looking at the video and it looks already amazing. And im not much of a puzzle gamer! from what i see from the video it has great graphics and concept for a puzzle. I could already figure out how to play it just by looking at the vid! (Simple and fun, the next tic-tac-toe)
