Multiplayer Quake over your PC, DS, and PSP |
Ó
Cross platform multiplayer, homebrew style! Of course, the big hurdle is that you have to have a wireless network installed locally for it to work. A wireless LAN card or a wireless access point wired to the PC server is bare minimum. Server and network settings might be a problem, too. The PSP homebrew game used in the video is a continuation of Peter Mackay and Chris Swindle's work on Quake for PSP. And it reached version 2, complete with infrastructure mode for connecting to servers.
On the other hand, the DS would require its own version of the open-sourced Quake (the one by Simon Hall), and of course, a homebrew enabled DS. Both releases provided below will have the ability to connect to servers via infrastructure mode, thus allowing you to connect to the server.
And just in case you don't have a copy of GLQuake, WinQuake or a retail version of Quake, you can attempt the procedure with the shareware version (available at any Quake fan site or major download site). Just don't forget to run a dedicated server - listen servers seem to have serious lag issues. And do not forget to go through the Readmes of the homebrew versions for complete installation procedures and proper warnings.

Thats awsome!
Connecting to PC servers is going to be cool until you get raped by some rocket jumping bunny hopping boosting mouse using player.
...Quake 1 wasn't exactly the "freelook" mouse version of Quake. Quake II allowed you to look up and down with a mouse. For Quake 1, you need to activate a hotkey to look up or down. So you'd still be up against a PC player on keyboards only. Would be funny once you fragged a gamer, and taunted him that you used a stylus. ^_^
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=477330&postcount=13 I did this as a proof-of-concept on the DCEmu boards about a month ago. Screenshot at the link. ^^ My Girlfriend was on her DS, me on my PSP and my PC running the server. It was pretty fun! ^^
Mouse look isn't on by default, no, and I don't think it's in the options either. But you can add +mlook in the console or in your cfg file in Q1 for mouse look. It's that simple.
since when is people learning how to use the "connect serverip:port" command in quake, news? i've been doing this since psp quake could connect to a hot spot.

crossplatform multiplayer is fun but kinda nonsence on practice, cuz you'll just sucj against others (take psp vs ds/pc controls....),after 5 fisrt minutes of fun you'll merely give up
I've tried it, and this thing rocks. :) Keep up the good work!
but the main reason i got this was for online and i dont know how to get on. I have a router and quake connects, I choose "search for local games" and it sayno quake servers found.... Do i need an ip adress or something any help would be much appreciated thank you.
Where do i get this dedicated Server???!! ?_? I used google but didn't found anything >.
