MAME4ALL v4.7, 4.6 - more stable, better compatibility |
Ó
If you're a fan of arcade games and willing to put in a little time compiling a program to run it, then MAME4ALL is right up your alley. Franxis has released the source code for versions 4.6 and 4.7. These optimized versions of MAME is based on the gpx2 port and offers better compatibility (more games supported) than previous versions. If you're new to the whole emulation scene, MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. Designed to emulate the hardware of arcade games, it was first publicly released on February 5, 1997 by Nicola Salmoria and the rest of the MAME team with an open-source license.
Installation isn't very complicated, but you will need GCC 4.0.2: DevKitGP2X rc2 to compile the code or a slightly modified version of GCC 4.1.0 (DevKitARM r18) linked with GCC 4.0.2 (DevKitGP2X rc2). Before doing anything go over the Read Me document included in the compressed file to avoid potentially damaging your PSPs.
Thanks to Francisco Vergara for the tip!

i am teh first
could someone compile it and put it up somewere?
i second that
Not exactly hidden... http://ttyman.free.fr/?p=7
Nice I love MAME thank you.
Funnily enough, he actually released the compiled versions a MONTH AGO. Way to go QJ.
congratulations your a loser
I am very glad that at least someone has done some updating for the PSP for MAME. I do hope that someone releases a compiled version, but this is still really good news!
Franxis you rock!
Just to clarify, this is a GP2X port, not 'GPX2' as stated in the article, its an easy typo to make tho :) The GP2X is a cool little opensource handheld console made by Gamepark Holdings in Korea.
but I think porting sdlmame would be easier since the pspsdk is designed for cygwin/linux. I have plenty of experience compiling the windows versions of mame (and actually ran the compiling forum for a couple of years) but never had to mess with the code all that much. I want to learn to get it running on the PSP but it's going to take me a long while. Last time I tried learning c/c++ I got through chapter 3 of the C bible and went brain dead (because of trying to understand what the excersises were asking me to do).
at any rate this source will give me a hell of a head start so thank you for releasing it!!!
and for those asking for a binary... read the comments before making your own. It's already been said that the binaries were released over a month ago. Google it.
This could be THE best emulator on the PSP if it were in the right hands, not mine of course :P, but someone who knows their stuff.
If NJ were to take this on I bet he could get most games from the 80's - around '95 working very smoothly.
I'm personally sick of the crappy collections these companies are selling to us. If they are going to charge for games that are nearly 30 years old they should at least make them 100% arcade perfect and they really aren't. Namco is better than some of the others about their emulation. Sega is one of the worst. (I know this isn't the arcade port) but just play Golden Axe on the Sega collection and if you have played the original console version you will be disappointed at many "changes"
MAME has always been about arcade perfection. I have a port on my Kodak camera that is smoother than the PSP version and it's running on a 33Mhz cpu running Digita!
So dev guys.. please help out. We need you! :)
Domino Man finally runs, but it only displays the middle third of the screen. Anyone else getting better results?
does this mean that we'll be able to finally play the Simpson's arcade game on our PSP's?
Gyruss
Galaga
Super Space Invaders
Metal Slugs
ok ok I could just go on and on and on but I really have been waiting to play mame on the PSP....
I want to play that too and TMNT! If only...
I want to play Metal Slug on my PSP! T~T
Buy Metal Slug Anthology, or steal it. It is perfect!
if u want to play metal slug get neo geo emulator fu on ure psp 1.5
the compiled versions were released before this... And did QJ mention that? No, they didn't.
Keep on that track, QJ. You already suck in news posting. No hard feelings, that's just how it is.
Is it possible to run this game...will it ever be?
