Legend of Hyrule: Linkens Quest v1.0 For PSP |
Ó

Perhaps motivated by people downplaying the wonders of the lua platform, zion said this project is a "prime example of what can be achived in lua coding if you put the time and effort in" it. And boy did they put "time and effort" in this one. According to him, he and PSPDemon (gfx designer) worked for '6 all-dayers and all-nighters to get this done'. Considering it took two and a half weeks to finish, these guys really must be tired; another reason why they deserve our gratitude as this is all done for us - free.
The role-playing homebrew really flaunts the quality of a 21-day project. Link's interaction with the other characters are notable, graphics are crisp, sprite's movements are fluid, words are well-thought off, and it even has some functional stores for Link to purchase weapons and other goodies. We wouldn't have thought it was created in lua if zion hadn't said so himself. If this is just the first level, we're very raring to try the upcoming stages.
For someone who codes full-time and still manages to create simple yet fun games during a fifteen-minute break, zion really is fast becoming someone. So we here at the Kingdom of QJ dub thee, zion, as the "Master of Motivation"; arise and follow the path you're set to take - the road to respect and recognition.

Guarding 1st spot
the first lua game that have some interest tome......
...but its still in lua....
For 2.7, Im not sure on that whole situation and if there even working on it. If there will be I can downG to 1.5 right?
This has a cease and desist order written all over it.
it crashed every 2 mins CRAPPPPPPPPP
Dude, STFU.
You cannot play any homebrew including this on PSPs version 2.7 or higher.
only for 1.0-2.6 can play
We changed the title of the game to "Legend of Hyrule: Linkens Quest." A bit of error on our part. Thanks for telling us. And sorry for the confusion.
ehh
How much level of copyright do you allow? I mean I read in the forums that copyrighted material will NOT be shown on the front page.
I mean sure, this game looks to have different images and all that, but Zelda is copyrighted is it not? The user should have named it differently.
this is incredible! One of the best psp homebrews so far!
And its lua!
very very nice!
zelda is a bit tall though...
quite a nasty way to end it, lookin' forward to fighting!
the gfx look great! This game looks awesome! Im gonna play it right now. I hope this goes far and gets a lot of great updates!
I guess it's putting your foot in your mouth to the nay sayers who say that some games developed and coded in Lua look like cr@p. This game alone, just by looking at the graphics on the front page makes me want to play it. Going to download it now, and try it out. Well done zion. Keep up the excellent work on this project ! Looking forward to more !
cool cant wait till it is finnished :). hope someone can make some custom sprites though cause i dont like what link looks like
The v1.0 fooled me into thinking that this was a complete game, or at least had enough features to make it somewhat playable beyond walking through the city and talking to some kids on the street. However, the game itself seems promising in the future.
Will keep an eye on this, keep up the good work.
Nice game! like the graphics, hope the story's as interesting!
V 1.0, not realy, but its got a solid grapixs setup and flow right now. Cant wait to get a full virsion of this game.
Im been on qj for 4 or 5 months now and iv never really used homebrew cuz I have 2.70 but what exactly is LUA and is there any way I can get it cause I REALLY wanta play this. (or do I have to wait for a downgrade?)
nope, only 2.6 or below can play homebrew.
@#12: No you cannot play this. It's for 1.0-2.6 user's only. LUA is a type of coding btw.
@The Maker: Looks like a great game! I'm off to try it right now ♥.
This is really a surprise because alot of Lua apps I see are simple, rushed and have an unfinished look to them. I couldn't do better myself but regardless I always considered Lua to be the main problem. Having tested this I see that really good stuff is indeed possible in Lua if you put the effort in, as the dev rightly says. The graphics are fluid and crisp, the music is nice and it is obvious alot of time and energy has been put into this. Thanks for spending your free time to bring us this it is appreciated!!
U can download luaplayer for windows to play this game
Lua (the language) is not the problem, it's the attitude that people take on when programming with LuaPlayer. They expect it to be a quick shortcut to create games for the PSP and as soon as they get past what tutorials teach them, they crumble.
Learning how to program in Lua is no different to learning any other programming language. LuaPlayer makes things a lot easier for the developer as it provides a decent and easy enough API for displaying graphics to the screen and interfacing with the hardware. It is no different to using C/C++ with SDL.
However, Lua is a scripting language and will never be as fast as a compiled language such as C/C++ so limitations will appear very soon.
Just tried this out and it was great. I can't wait for the next edition.
Too bad it's going to be 1-2 months until it's released :(
This is a win for LUA coders!
For not announcing every single little alpha version of this LUA program for a change.
LUA was not the problem; it\'s clearly QJ editors announcing every little still *****ty ass version.

Hey....can you please change the title of it..... this is PSPdemon by the way....
the title is suppose to be Legend of Hyrule: Linkens Quest...
Please do change it...
Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon
to everyone that says that there might be a problem with the games material....
there shouldnt be... we used pd stuff.... not of comyrighted material or anyhting of that such....
all menus, music, tiles, sprites, ect.....is all pd stuff or free of use...
anyway....i hope that cleared things up a bit
Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon
The Link/Zelda is still Nintendo's IP and the story and title infringes on that IP.
This game looks really nice i cant wait to see more. This is the reason y ill never upgrade my psp, there is always some1 coming up with awsome homebrew games or translaters still translating nes/snes games. hmm....wonder what happened with dragon fighter,we havent heard or seen any news sinch march, is the game sill being worked on?
i have a 2.7 so u cant play it i tried it but it wont let me play it it says ccorrupted data. is there nothing to do?
nocomment
Also PSPDemon, just because the images were free, you still have to make sure that you have permission and right to use those images in another form and to distribute them.
This is the best i've ever seen in LUA! I hope the game will be finished soon!!!
hey bugmenot guess what no one cares
boobs
This is Just a demo right, cuz I cant attack or use any of the items (Lua Player on windows) andThe way I started the game was RUN and INDEX.LUA- is that right?
@38: Looks like #12 did.
@40: Yes, that is correct, you cannot attack or use items in this version.
#38, you have obviously not seen Meeku's Quest. Even though I haven't played this, from the comments it appears to have been well received. Thankyou for enlightening people on what can be done on Lua. Although I feel a little jealous in the fact that Meeku's Quest, a far more (in my humble OPINION) graphically and technically better game got WAAAAY less praise than this. Oh well. Good luck for any future releases.
i heard linken is a dud on war of warcraft that resembled link
As far as I can tell from the download of Meeku's Quest, Lua was only used for some parts of the game. The majority of it was done in C/C++ (I assume).
1st of all i like ,and i'm very thankful, for all those coders who invest their time creating new games for the likes of us who use our FREE-time to play them and MANY other to just make critics over what they did. I really apreciate if there would just just one post of comments only targeted to critics around the game not the coder, Not how it was done, NOT any othe major S**t around the game!! I'm just making clear that, in my opinion, i like games made in C/C++ rather more than LUA, but this dude made this one really great. ohh and another thing, please if u dont like to STFU and just before you are going to write bad things about any homebrew, P L E A S E !! remember that they are F R E E !!! that you are not investing any money on them only the few minutes downloading them...... :}
good job Zion, why dont you ever get on aim any more? lmao
anyways, good job, this sure beats the heck out of my kirby game
also, since this game is freeware, and is distributed freely, it is not illigle
only copyrighted material that is resold by someone that does not have permision is illigle
its kinda like, if your favorite book is "The True Confesions of Charelette Doyle", and you want to make a sigual for it, and give it away for free, that would not be illigle
Well, this certainly looks nice for a LUA game, but it is still technically unimpressive. I mean, come on, even the first Zelda on the NES featured scrolling between each screens; the "engine" behind this game looks like 30+ years old, except for the true-color graphics.
And admittedly, this is an early release, but there is still very little to talk about regarding the game itself; Hopefully there will be more content in the next versions, to make us forget about the weak technical side.
But anyway, it's always good to see that people are willing to invest more than just 15 mins into making a game (especially a Zelda game ^^), I hope you guys enjoyed making this game, don't give up yet and next time show us some impressive game content ! :)
Sorry crait but I am afraid that you are wrong in that respect. Whether the material is sold or given away freely, if it is copyrighted it is also illegal if permission or rights is not granted.
