After a long absence, PSP homebrew meister Zion makes his comeback, and he's bringing along an updated copy of Legend of Hyrule: Linkens Quest.

For a short refresher: Hyrule was a most welcome title that popped up a few months ago, and while it had a few bugs, it was considered by many as an example of how far LUA games could go, given time, effort, and six days of sleepless night, at least according to Zion.

Speaking of bugs, we're happy to announce that Zion's fixed up some of the major gripes reported in previous versions of this homebrew. Everything else should handle the way you'll remember them.
  1. Fixed bug where you would re-enter the house and the game would crash.
  2. Fixed bug where you would try to buy something at the shop and it would deduct rupees from you without you even making a purchase.
  3. Fixed bug where the Controls for the bomb were assigned to the wrong button.
  4. Fixed bug where Rupees could be collected even though there was no rupees there.
  5. Fixed Game over crash bug.
  6. Added character to give you a clue on how to get the sword.
  7. Added controls screen to the shop purchase system, so you can tell what buttons do what.
  8. Added mini game option menu.
  9. Added Cutscene skip option, press load game instead of new game.
Zion's also planning to add mini games to Hyrule in a few days, and we're hoping they'll make this game all the more fun. Once again, we thank Zion for releasing this little homebrew. Sieg Zion!

Very nice. i'm currently making a Zelda clone too.

Completely different approach, it'll be a tile based game.

hopefully will release something pretty soon.

Plus i want to release some tile based tutorials as i think it's the only way forward for lua game like these.

This game sucks and uses copyrighted material as was already found in the dcemu thread awhile back. These sorry @ss lua games are worthless to all of us. Please stop making these 5 min lua scripts that any 5 year old kid can do. Anyone can copy and paste these lua scripts to move sprites. Game sucks bad if you even want to call this a "game"

# Game has copyrighted materialGuest 2006-10-30 11:51
Yes this game sucks and DOES have copyrighted material from a thread back in dcemu a monthh or so ago when he was working on version 2.0. Everyone flamed him back them for putting copyrighted amterial in the game and i can see that he still has copyrighted amterial in the game. This game needs to be taken off the internet as it is violated all copyright laws and will be sued by Sony as well. This was already discussed awhile back at dcemu when he came out with version 1.0 and 2.0 and now he STILL has these copyrighted material in it. Besides that, this game really sucks @ss anyway as it is boring and it is made in LUA so what else is there to say. Zion is just a wannabe loser who can't code for $hit and just copies and pastes other people's copyrighted material into a lua script. Zion sucks balls and is the biggest loser I have seen.

# Copyright or IP?Guest 2006-10-30 12:41
I think you are gettong confused with copyright and IP. While this game does use a third party's IP, I believe the graphics are in Public Domain (I actually saw them on a blog the other day stating they were free to use).

Also, you don't like the fact it is made in Lua? Age of Empire(s) ring a bell?

Remember the Starcraft 'port' a long while back:

http://tinyurl.com/yavuv9 . The game.lua code looked VERY similar to your script in Age of Empires. Same naming convention, same indentation, same file structure etc. Admittedly you added a sizeable chunk to it but well...

ok coderx your going to far.

1. i never ever copy code.

2. 95% of the gfx is pd, the rest...who cares im not selling it or gaining any financial benefit from it.

3. Get a life.

4. Il tell you something it would be quite an achivement to code a game that is seen as such a threat to sony or nintendo that they send me a cease and desist order. lol

get over it

Anon is telling the truth, the stracraft homebrew game he was coding has the same coding as the age if empires homebrew game, still Zion cannot be sued since CoderX also violated the copyright infringement by making a port of age of empires 2. Still I don't know about Zion copying codes for the zelda linken's quest. Anyways I now know Zion as a disgrace to the psp homebrew community, still if he finishes this game and it truns out to be fun I will still play it :P.
