Jump Gunnar, Jump From PSPSMM |
Ó

It's time for PS2Dev's Fourth Creation 2006 contest and the PSPSMM coder team presents us with their entry: Jump Gunnar, Jump.
This 2D platform game let's you control of what hardhat describes as your "seemingly average every day sheep". But believe me, Gunnar the sheep is no 'average everyday sheep'! He does run and jump as well as the ordinary sheep but he walks with his two hind legs (an image reminiscent of George Orwell's Animal Farm) and has a gun to protect himself.
Finding himself in the evil Shephard's gauntlet, Gunnar needs to make it to the end. But Shephard will not make it easy for our sheep. Before making it to the next level, gun-armed Gunnar needs to collect 505 of the fruits. Walking and flying enemies will make this seemingly simple task hard for you. When hit by these enemies, your health status will be reduced. Being injured by an enemy will cause Gunnar to flash for a moment. There will be flags that appear in the levels, make sure to touch them if you die so you can prevent Gunnar from having to start all over again. Save Gunnar via the following controls:
- left, right arrow - move Gunnar
- X - jump Gunnar
- O - shoot in the direction that Gunnar is facing
You might need the latest version of Stefano Russello's PSPBrew to make the installion of this game easier (download link provided below).
The PSPSMM team has made Jump Gunnar, Jump a "mega modable supergame" and comes with a level editor and spritesheet. Also in the download of the game are the source and documentation. For info on how to mod this game, just go over the README text. There are currently eight levels in this PSPSMM release.
Thanks to Wilhel1812 for the tip!

This looks like a fun game to play. I will give it a try.
where should i put the enemies pictures file at?
well there are some faults that ive seen (im the admin of pspsmm and some kind of leader of the project :P:P:P )
its pspSmm not pspmm, and SMM means ''super modable mastergame'' and not "mega modable supergame"
for the rest, thanks to mention us and for the QJ members, join us and beta test things and help with coding and if your lucky you will get on one of our teams
POL 1 CRC 1
Hmm. Potentially good, but clearly a little rushed for the competition.
Firstly, the scrolling is really iffy, my main gripe with it is that it makes it very difficult to see where the sheep is if scrolling horizontally. Frustrating.
At points, the level appears offset, i.e the sheep ends up half a block into the level.
On multiple occasions, I was hurt by something, when nothing was in the locus of my sheep's path. E.g Jumping up and down on the first level near the start often hurts the sheep, even though the enemies are clearly away from him.
It would be nice if you could shoot enemies with the gun, rather than just certain parts of the terrain. I started shooting at enemies and realised it just wasn't going to work.
Almost all platformers since mario adopt a variable jump system, whereby if you tap the jump button quickly, you have a short jump, but if you hold it longer, you have a longer jump. Adding this here would allow for greater dexterity over Gunnar and the 'feel' of a platformer.
Some sound would be nice, anything. A looping mikmod is really easy to put in, and it beats silence.
Graphics are cute and functional, but not the best we've seen so far.
There's a decent variety of enemies, and I'm sure plenty of levels, but I didn't feel compelled to finish it.
The fact that the game is fully moddable is great, and i'm sure there will be plenty of mods out, and plenty of levels.
So, a game with potential, and none of the issues there are unresolveable with some effort.
I'm beginning to regret not entering this competition....I wanted a PS2 v_v
"where should i put the enemies pictures file at?"
Dont put it anywere, it was only a file i included for fun ;)
