Homebrew developer Xx FightStar xX tipped us off about the newest release of the homebrew game, Halo: Genocide, now upped to version 1.2. The dev proudly states that this newest version is "almost unrecognisable" from the previous release, and that it has been vastly improved.

Just looking at version 1.2's changelog might be overwhelming for those who haven't played Xx FightStar xX's homebrew game, so here's a little info on this: It's actually a 2D side-scrolling shooter of the game Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC. The storyline of this homebrew game precedes that of the PC video game.

Now that's out of the way, let's see what's been added, removed, changed, and improved in Halo: Genocide version 1.2. There's a long list of new features and fixed bugs here, so you better take a deep breath.

New features:
  • You must reach the "Pelican" ship to finish a level - No more camping!!.
  • "Pelican" ship transports you to the next level.
  • You now start with all 3 guns, but with limited ammo for each.
  • Gun collection now gives you more bullets than in the previous version.
  • Each enemy is stronger than the next, the elite being the strongest and grunt being weakest.
  • Bullet shooting is now in for both player and enemy (you can now see the bullets), thanks to Charlie at evilmana.com for the shooting snippet, needed a lot of modifying to suit though (done by me )
  • Ending scene is now in.
  • Ability to return to menu on completion of game (may be buggy, shouldn't be!.
  • 3 Continues upon loosing all your life's, after that press start to return to the games menu and try again.
  • All cut-scenes bar the initial one and end one have been taken out, I didn't like the feature.
  • More Level detail added, dead soldiers, crates etc.
  • Improved AI.
  • New Protective Shield image. Made by Buddy4point0.
Bugs fixed:
  • Health Getting Drained Excessively at random bug is fixed.
  • Scrolling Bug that mainly happened when moving from left to right, is fixed.
  • Weapon Selection bug is now gone, would sometimes prevent the "Sniper Rifle" being selected.
  • Invincible enemy bug is now gone.
  • Weapon Ammo bug now gone, would make your ammo reset to zero if you had over 499 bullets.
  • Enemy "Overlapping" bug is now gone, enemy's never go "Over" each other now.
  • Level Completion bug while doing nothing but stand in the same spot bug is now gone.
  • Enemy's killing you during level change is now gone.
  • Enemy's retaining the same position at the end of the old level and the beginning of the next one, bug is gone.
  • Occasional "Image Load" error when reaching a certain level after a certain number of retry's bug is gone.
  • Master Chief being hit noise happening when he wasn't under attack bug is fixed.
Xx FightStar xX adds that this is the "closest and most realistic things so far" to playing Halo on your PSPs, that's why the dev's asking you folks to check it out and give feedback on what else this game needs either through the comments section or by following the PSP development thread. Help out the dev and try the game (like what his beta testers Buildit92 and Gizmo356 did)! Enjoy the game!

-Ability to jump (over obstacles!)

-enemies on ground instead of floating. Make them bigger

-ability able to shoot while crouched.

-Once pelican reached, screeen should fade out then back in to different level

-Bullet collision detection. (It loooks like Mc is shooting behind enemies.)

-Ability to pause the game and restart level

-Equipment! Power drainer! triangle could cycle through and LT to deploy

-Gernades!

-Spartan laser! *drool*

-A Mongoose level (think Zillion 2 sms)

-Power Rejuvenates

-Hud improvements. (take out the blue behing the life bar and make it transparent)

-Ability to listen to Own MP3's (Im sure most people have bought the halo albums)

-Ablilty to add custom levels

-Better bubble shield pose.(MC on his knees looks weak imo)

Not sure how much of this stuff can be added but I can dream can't I? Thanks for reading!

# Better port Halo Zero PC to PSP!Guest 2007-07-11 08:24
This game is a good effort to bring Halo to the PSP console, although it'd be a better idea to just try porting the Halo Zero for PC game because it is a superior game, gameplay wise and a great way to have a good rendition of Master Chief in our beloved portable! Thanks.
