Galactic Breakout v0.1 Demo for FW 1.0 and 1.5 |
Ó
As his entry to this year's XtreamLua contest, The Underminer has released Galactic Breakout, a brick-breaking homebrew game for the PSP. The game features a variety of bricks with different properties, 11 collectible bonuses and 70 levels.
Players can also make their own levels using the level editor and submit their highest scores to an online rankings board. Check out the images below for the controls. The one on the left is for the level editor, while in-game controls are on the right.
There's no readme file included in the downloads so here are the instructions. Just download the appropriate archive below and extract the contents of the 1.0 or 1.5 folder (depending on your PSP's firmware version) to your PSP's GAME folder.

it bricked my psp
cool game. thanks. BTW running 3.40OE and using the 1.0 fw version of game. As for game play can you speed up the ball a little bit? Is there a way to add more or change the music? Keep up the Great work! Trying to post score but so far not working???
Been awhile since I've even seen firmware 1.0 mentioned. I lol at anyone who is still using it.
OE users use the 1.0 versions which are more stable then the 1.50 ones.
I was pretty sure I included a readme. Maybe it got left out in the 1.00 version. I've re-uploaded the rar files to www.galacticbreakout.com. Here are the contents: Galactic BreakOut v0.1 DEMO ------------------------------- by The Underminer Installation ------------------------------- Copy the contents of the RAR archive to the X:/PSP/GAME/ folder of your memorystick (where X is your drive letter). Users of OE or SE firmwares copy the contents to X:/PSP/GAME150/ Button Configuration ------------------------------ In game: - D-pad left/right move paddle - analog stick left/right move paddle - Cross Release ball - Circle fire laser (when you have the bonus) - Select Screenshot (saved as screenshot.png in the folder where you installed the game) - Start Menu Level Editor: - D-pad Cursor-movement - Cross Place brick - Circle Delecte brick/cancel - Square select previous brick/bonus - Triangle select next brick/bonus - R Cycle bricks/bonusses - Select Screenshot (saved as SOLE.png in the folder where you installed the game) - Start Menu Title screen: - D-pad Up / Down Select option - Select Restart the game - L screenshot (saved as menu_screen.png in the folder where you installed the game) Dialogues: - Cross continue - start skip dialogue Level Selector (editor) - D-pad up/down previous/mext file - D-pad left/right previous/next page - Cross select file - Circle cancel - square create new file (when saving levels) Known Bugs ------------------------------ none Submit Content ------------------------------ GBO isn't finished yet! 20 out of 70 are included in the demo. It's hard sometimes to find the inspiration to create the extra 50 levels needed for the full version, while keeping them all unique and fun to play. If you want to help out, use the level editor to create some levels and email the levels you create to undrmnr@gmail.com. The levels you create are likely to appear in the next version; so everyone can enjoy your creations. The levels from the level editor are stored by default in the levels folder inside the folder where you installed GBO. By default this is PSP/GAME/GBO_Demo/levels. You can copy these files to your hard drive and attach them to an email. My goal is to have one music track for every planet. If you have the talent to create music that fits the GBO style, please mail your tracks to undrmnr@gmail.com as well. The preferred format is: mp3 mono 96 kbps. It seems some people R having problems with this. See the manual>online rankings @ galacticbreakout.com. It involves telling the game wich connection to use.
I'm still unable to connect to post score. Is this working for anyone? I'm ejoying the game play though :-) PSP is 3.40 OE grabbed 1.0 version of Game. Only have 1 wireless connection listed on PSP. it just "hangs" at Connecting...
I myself use 3.02 OE-A, I believe and the fw 1.00 version of the game. I'm using a unsecured (no WEP) wireless network. If you have set WiFi-ConnectConfig to 1 (in case of one connection) you should be good to go. Somehow it can take very long to connect, up to 15 seconds. Make sure your wifi signal is over 50% in strength. When then wifi LED is off or turns off, this is an indication of a failed attempt. Pfew, long list. Got to admit it's hard. But at least 3 people succeeded. I'll test if can still connect with WEP on.
Well my Wifi is WEP secured maybe that's why it isn't working. Connection signal is good (I'm in the same room as the router) I left it "trying" to conect for over 10 mins .. plenty of time I'd say. :-)
Trying a WEP cost me a helluvalot trouble setting up my router, only to find out that it does NOT work. Everyone who uses an encrypted connection should disable it if they want to submit their scores. By the way, rankings can also be viewed from the website.
Ok I turned off WEP and now it will connect to the Ranking board. But how do I get it to post my score? I had a score of over 200,000 .... then I died so does that reset my score to Zero? Then how do I get the score to post before I die? Does the Ranking Board update autommatically when scores are posted or does it take "awhile"?
It updates whenever you select rankings from the main menu. This means that when you are game over and connect to rankings your score will be set to 0. This might be a bit harsh, so maybe I should include a dialog that asks you if you want to post your score if you died, and let the server only update it if it is higher than the previous one you submitted.
Yeah I think you should be able to post your score that you "HAD" before you died. Then when either you start a new game or close out of game your stats are ereased (unless you posted them to the board ;-) I think that would be cool. I've still got to figure out how do I go to rankings while I'm still playing the game and not dead....
Wahoo got my Score to Post!! ... Got me Top position ... for now ;-) Dark_Terk Now I just need to apply some time building "maps/levels" to help out :-D Cool Game Thanks and keep it up!!!
