When we first read about Jonas Hielscher's PSP game CollecTic, the first question that came to our minds was "When will the game come out?". Recently we decided to pay Jonas' CollecTic site a visit. Scrolling down to where it says "download", we suddenly felt a rush of excitement upon reading these words: "Will Be Available in August 2006". Why, August is just a few days away!

You might be wondering why we're so excited about CollecTic. Well, it's a game that will require players to search for wireless access points - a unique game concept (and a little bit of exercise for us)! Just think of it - a game that actually requires you to walk all around. We're raring to give it a go, even if it means leaving the confines of our office.

In CollecTic, everytime your PSP comes within range of a wireless access point, the point registers and is represented by a square, triangle, or circle. These collected shapes will then be placed in a big black square on the screen, arranged in a grid of 3x3. Three equal shapes in a row give extra points. Just pray you don't get unsecured wireless access points, represented by a black star. Why? Because when you do so, all your figures get thrown out of the puzzle - and bam, you're back to square one.

We'll give you a heads up as to when the game becomes available.

amazing concept for a game! Only thing is its not fair that you lose all your points cuz some idiot doesnt know how to protect their network :(

» oh god, the sequel

My work WAPs are unsecures for diagnostic purposes, As well as my home one.

GAH!

I don't think you need to have a non-secure network as long it picks a wifi signal you earn points or somthing, so secure or not WEP or WAP or what ever it should all work, so that dosen't make illegal.

I would love to play it though.

Try this in new york city. 9/10 routers IS secure :D.

This game looks like it's going to be awesome, and I hope I see more games based entirely on wireless access points in the future.

Homebrew game right? This guy doesn't even mention anything about firmware versions. He must be hiatus from the psp homebrew community.

"The game is developed for a Sony PSP with firmware version 1.5. The game is written in the programming language C and is developed with the PSP Software Development Kit2 (PSPSDK), a collection of open source tools and libraries written for Sony's PSP gaming console, distributed under a BSD-compatible license."

Too many children on here. Not enough comments that make sense or are smart enough to give a response to that they could understand or care to understand for that matter.

» should be two modes for this game

There should be two modes for this game: easy and hard

In easy mode an UNSECURED wi-fi AP would GIVE you bonus points and in hard mode an UNSECURED wi-fi AP would take points away.

What the ***** is so goddamn hard about doing that?

Is she trying to make a point with her little game that somehow unsecured wi-fi APs are 'bad'?

I want a game, not someone's personal opinion on internet access morality.

If I wanted that, I'd be working for an ISP.

by pspizzle - 2006-07-29 11:19
» fair play....

...fair play to the developer for dreaming up such an innovative game, however I think there will be few people who will go around looking for wireless hotspots in aid to get a high score.

by underwaterflame - 2006-07-31 14:26
» that sucks.....

there are no access point strong enough for my psp to register near my house

» ...

lol...the whole idea is to get out m8...

and it says that unsecure connections show up as a star and that can either be white (good thing!) or black (bad thing)
