One
of the most anticipated releases of the fall has arrived on your doorstep (figuratively
speaking)! Dark_Alex has updated his 2.71 CE (Custom Firmware) to the
"B" edition. If you have no prior knowledge of what this custom
firmware is, or when it was released - We highly suggest that you read
Pranav's article concerning the first release. Unless you are
"lazy" like myself, I'll put this complex release into some simple
sentences:Dark_Alex released the 2.71 Custom Firmware as a succession to his earlier HEN_C release which patched homebrew to fully run it on the 2.71 firmware. With the 2.71 Custom Firmware SE-A being released around two weeks ago, the scene was introduced to an easier, and more user-friendly method of executing these previously incompatible homebrew. So basically, all those kernel applications that you've been dying to run are all executable with this custom firmware, with near endless possibilities.
This modification will not run on a TA-082 PSP. Do not even try it out. It will surely brick your PSP.
With the first release of Dark_Alex's Custom Firmware (SE-A), the basic features boiled down to the execution of homebrew by "regular" means like 1.50 firmware users have been doing for over a year now. With this newest addition to the custom firmware "family", Dark_Alex has improved the previous features as well as added some new ones which will turn several heads:
- ISO/CSO support
- All previous incompatible UMD's work
- Loading of 1.50 homebrew from GAME folder and 2.71 homebrew from GAME271 folder - now supported
- Execution of EBOOT on Startup
- Ability to enable/disable the noplainmodulecheck patch in umds/isos (for advanced users)
- Ability to force the use of boot.bin in umds
- UMD not needed in SE-C for execution of ISO's
- USBHostfs support built-in
- DAX ISO support
--- Installation ---
- Mathieulh has said that after installing the custom firmware, there isn't much space left on Flash0. So it's best to use the downgrader which formats the whole Flash0 first. That way, you can be sure that there aren't any useless files on your Flash.
- You will need a 1.5 dump. Those are only available if you're on a 1.5. Though you won't have to worry, Dark_AleX has bundled a helper program which will help you make a firmware dump easily.
- First, copy the seupdmaker and seupdmaker% folders to your PSP
- Now download the 1.5 and 2.71 update eboots from our site and put them in the seupdmaker folder with the names 150.PBP and 271.PBP
- Using the Helper program, make a firmware dump.
- Once done, copy the generated .dxar file from the seupdmaker folder to the 271seflasher folder.
- Then, simply use the update flasher to flash the custom firmware on your PSP!
There are some precautions you have to take though. Make sure your PSP is not a TA-082. Secondly, make sure your PSP's battery level is above 75%. And finally, be careful while using this application. It modifies your flash, so you have to be careful; any application that modifies your flash has a chance of bricking your PSP. It is indeed very necessary that you fully read and reread the readme file inside the download before proceeding.

UPDATE: We heard that Dark_Alex has made an update (you can get it by clicking the download link below), and here are the changes you can expect from it:
- Fixed the problem of crashing if the iso folder didn't exist
- Added experimental no umd mode. By default it is disabled.
New configurations:
- Use NO-UMD. It will enable the NO-UMD mode, whose compatibility is currently unknown, and probably less compatible than UMD mode. This is the main reason to release this quick update to know more or less the compatibility of this no-umd mode.
- Use isofs driver also in UMD-inserted mode (in advanced). You probably don't have to touch this, it's mainly done for myself. If you do it, you may decrease the compatibility of UMD mode.

This is a great piece of software but for me anyway I think I will stick with devhook as I don't like mucking about with flashing my firmware. I'm just worried that with my luck I will end up screwing something up.

Yes, flashing for 5 minutes is a bit more of a risk, but so is any update... Besides Harleyg' is/was behind some component of this custom fw, and do remember who made the FIRST custom fw? ( Dark Alex, the author you are facing here. ) Besides, Casual is gunna make 1.50 pwn all.

Downgrade to 1.5, then generate the .dxar file and flash it to obtain 2.71 SE-B firmware. But make sure that your PSP isn't a TA-082.

This is great, the only reason I didn't try this before is cuz I didnt want to change my GAME forlders and patch every game just to work for this FW. I have Devhook which plays my backups already, so why would I fuss with a FW that doesn't, that problem is fixed now too....YAY!!!!! :D

Native ISO and CSO support?? Now my Girlfriend can play the psp without always asking me to load devhook. I went from 1.50 to 2.71 SE-A. Now will update to Rev. B A good bit of advice would be keep a copy of the recovery files in their correct directories on a separate mem stick (keep that mem stick v. safe). This will protect you in the event of a semi brick and your mem stick being corrupt. Great Work Dark Alex - SOny must be chewing thier own behind to find out who you are ;) NeoN HaZe.

If you are already on 2.71 SE-A then read the Readme.txt file....there is an seb_update folder in the download....pop this into your Game150 folder, run the update and you are at 2.71 B...easy. The rest is if you are already at original 1.50 or 2.71.

updated my 1.5 when 2.71 se-a was released and loved it and now that b is out and i dont have to run devhook anymore it is class and the good thing is if somethin amazin and new happens on 1.5 it can just be downgraded again using the recovery menu dark alex you are truly the man keep up the good work

Moving 2.71 homebrew to a GAME271 folder sounds better to me. My only question is if themes PSP works with this one. I suppose I could use the 2.71 SE Customizer but I love theme its pretty and plays music while flashing.
If ill be updatng my psp from 1.5 to that custom firmware, could anyone tell me,... How do i run the cso/isos? cause in the vid i see the person just loads them under game, but how would that be on the memstick? i am not into the custom firmware stuff, so this might be a really nooby question, but i'd hope anyone can help me. if you were runnin version a before you bricked your psp just run recovery mode and reflash 1.5 to unbrick it
just put them on X:/ISO and run them from the XMB Game Menu! its very easy
when you update to 2.71 se-b there will be a iso folder in the root of your memory stick just put them there then when you run your psp just go to game go down to memory stick and they will be there then just press x to run them

It does work for me but when I run an .cso game I do get to see the psp logo intro(as normal) but after that the game returns to XMB with the message "The game could not be started.(80020321)" What causes this? I also had this when using SE-A/Devhook(nandflash) btw.

I already found a solution for this error... what I needed to do was inserting a umd-disc into my psp. Guess you need to insert a umd-disc after all (for some games, not all).
What about the new games that require new firmware like Star Trek which work with DevHook, do they work with this? Also, is there a way to change the clock speed??
This is a brillant upgrade took 2 seconds to flash and now ISO loads from mem stick =^.^= and the homebrew now having \GAME back for 1.50 and the new \GAME271 for the newer HB (however there isant that much 2.71 HB that i have found) This FW revision has given me everything that i wanted, however is it at all possible to change the CPU clock without loading a launcher?

it's hard getting some apps to work, and considering irshell is a corrupted file on 2.00+ that gui eboot fixer *****e doesn't work anyway it just freezes lol..... i'll stick to2.71 via devhook at the moment .... very good though Dark_AleX!!!

you must copy the seupdmaker and seupdmaker% to the x:/PSP/Game. Then u must put 1.50 and 2.71 updates to Seupdmaker folder. with update names 1.50 must be 150.PBP and 2.71 must be 271.PBP , good luck ;)
I swopped my 2.8 psp for a 2.0 one, then upgraded to 2.71 to run homebrew. I'm considering downgrading and getting 2.71 SE-b. Can anyone confirm that a 2.0 psp has absolutrly no chance of being a TA082? I've checked the picture thing, and can't see any writing, but i want to be 100% before i risk it. When was TA-082 first sold in the UK?
I think it is time for me to say goodbye to firmware v1.5 on my PSP. I would have flashed to 2.71 SE-A, but I didn't since it had no ISO/CSO support. Now that it does, I see no reason to remain on firmware v1.5. It'd be awesome if Dark Alex could get this running on 2.8/2.81 sometime in the near future. (Although I hear that those firmwares use different encryption keys or something.)

Read the readme - it's what it is there for. ISO/CSO files show up under the memory stick games - but still require a UMD to be in the PSP.
Can you have more than 1 Isos on the mem card? How do yo select them? How can you run a UMD if there is a Iso on the mem card? how do you select them?Does Killzone work on this version? (did not on SE-A)
I put firmware updates 1.5 and 2.71 in the seupdmaker folder then i ran it on my psp and it said opening and checking 1.50.PBP then it says cannot open file. from that it returns to the XMB with no DATA.DXAR in the seupdmaker. does anyone know why this happens? and can someone help me? Great News but i'm stuck with 2.80 firmware. I was hoping to at least see a eloader created for this exploit but 2 months have already pass and it seems that it will neve come. I might end up upgrading my psp if the 3.00 firmware comes out before the eloader. Its just a thought. I'm left to wonder if fanjita and other developers are even working on the eloader since all they release was a eloader for 2.00 to 2.71 I believe this sucks. But Time will tell ?

Hey all, I installed it and it works fine for cso/isos (less battery consumption yeeeha!) . BUT - mp3 wont play anymore. :S - activating the wma / rss and canceling (because of let's say no inet access) will cause firmware to say "firmware broken reinitializing" in 10 languages (like when you downgrade). So wait for an updated version. unless you don't listen to music on the PSP. Microb
when i press X to accept the flashing, i notice it says format flash0...then ...done. follow by creating 1.50 subset...xx% + so on... does it mean this 2.71seb do an auto flash0 den follow by merging 1.50 with 2.71?

if your that worried about your psp getting bricked then you dont need to try to install this because there is always that chance of your psp getting bricked
download the updates from this site. THE NAMES OF THOSE UPDATES MUST BE 150.PBP and 271.PBP !!!
Ok gonna mess around with stuff... but so far I cannot open my Game --> Memory Stick option. Every time, the PSP freezes and shuts down. I've updated from SE-A and have preserved my original folder structure... maybe the update failed? I might have to format all the way down to 1.5 now... I'll keep everyone posted... anyone else run into this bug? --Databoy2k
u can't get to memory stick becuz maybe u put there "iso" folder in x:\PSP/GAME? when i put that folder my memory stick also crashed..:) but now everything works FINE! :)

i figured it out you have to open the memory stick on your computer and put something in the game folder, if you have ISO's you have to create the ISO folder inside the root of your memory stick then put your isos there and you can load them from your XMB
I have been using Epsilon on my Modchip but they just turned out to be all talk and little action. Now that Dark Alex has released this custom firmware, I will never be using Epsilon again. I am in the process of installing 2.71 SE B on my UP Chip and 2.81 on the other in preperation for GTA VCS. To Team Epsilon, this is how it should be done and instead of empty promises of updates and improvements he just delivers.

I have a PSP with German FW (2.00) and I'm planning to flash my PSP to SE-B... Therefor I need FW2.71 and FW1.5 EBOOTS. Can I use the UK-Version? Or where can I download German UpdateFiles?

microb, i also tested and as rct says, it plays mp3s fine 4 me too, wmas play fine too. as for the wma/rss, i can't confirm that as i didn't need to cancel them.
just a question when i update how can i downgrade if i need to.
currently this mod does not auto enable wma & flash player which requires wifi. hope this will be fix in the upcoming 2.71 SE-C. Testing my ridge racer 2 now. works flawlessly. will continue to check up any bugs if found. to all out there, we can help to report any bugs found or any better ideas to add on for the coming SE-C. this happened to me to but i fixed it all you need to do is put the devhook included in the file onto your psp then it shouldnt crash anymore
ive installed this and ive been able to load isos fine but when i try to run 1.50 homebrew my psp wont load it it says "game could not be started" or my psp crashes can someone please help
You have to move all the 1.50 homebrew into the GAME150 folder
ive also tried to load the devhook that was included with this that i downloaded from this site, it loads and goes to the devhook menu but when i push start for the devhook my screen goes black then crashes can someone help please????????

I cant get the damned DXAR file. I started the DXAR maker about 30 minutes ago and its still extracting and packing the 1.50 firmware subset. If anyone could help me, in any way possible, It would be greatly apprecieated.
I think Dark_Alex should allow users to change CPU-Clock because some isos are not realy working with 222 mhz...
If you intend on doing this, then read the directions carefully multiple times. I've done this on 3 psps and all have been fine. Go slow and do everything exactly as you are supposed to and you'll be fine. It can be broken into 3 easy steps: - Get your psp to ver1.5 (I upgraded to 2.71 then used the downgrader). When you do this, after the downgrade, it may come up with an error that your settings are incorrect in about 8 languages, this is ok. Just redo your settings. - Create the DAX file. - Upgrade to 2.71-SE-B (or A) If you are at all unsure, and can't afford a new psp, then don't do it.

I am no longer able to load Killzone via USB using devhook .46 ... Can someone else confirm this imcompatibility with Killzone Liberation so it can be fixed in 2.71 SE-C ? Thanks
if u wan 2 maintain the fuctional structure just like yr 1.50, all u hv 2 do is to tell yr psp to run all yr 1.50 compatible homebrew in game folder + not the game150. Wat does it mean? well when rebooting yr psp (not restart), press R button (sholder button). it will enter recovery mode. in the rec mode, enter configuration, then choose "Game folder homebrew (currently: 2.71 Kernel)" + press X button. u will den notice that it will change to "Game folder homebrew (currently: 1.50 homebrew)". after all done, press back + exit rec mode. now in yr ms, just transfer all yr 1.50 compatible homebrew from game150 folder to game folder. it works just as the original 1.50 fw.
well this sounds great. but since devhook .46 is doing just great for me.. i'm ok... i'm just not updating because your not able to customise the PSP gameboot.. well you can but i like to use Xflash.. but anyways.. when Xflash comes out for 2.71SE- A , B i'll update. i like my 1.50... it's just great!
use DA generic downgrader if u r using 2.71 HEN C to dg back to 1.50. dis gen dg enables u clear away some of the unecessary files in flash0. den start off with fresh upgrade with dis 2.71 SE-B. if u r using SE-A, den no need 2 dg. just upgrade from that point to SE-B. simple as that. hope can help.
I followed the instructions to the letter and everything seemed to work out fine. But then afer I booted up my new 2.71 SEB, and tried to access the memory stick, it froze. After a few more seconds it shut down. It freezes on an empty memory stick, a full one, a formatted one. Nothing works. Anyone else get this freeze error? I did have some custom flashes done to my 1.5 PSP before hand, so I'm going to try it again now that the FLASH0 has been emptied with the recovery mode.
what would be the need for devhook if you would install 2.71 SE-B?
I just updated to SE-B from SE-A and it took like 2 seconds and exited in 5. This is the easiest update I've ever done. Can't wait for the next update. Keep up the good work.

Do games and homebrew run just as well on this custom firmware than it does on 1.5? Would it run SNESTYL and gpsp just as fast? I have a 1.5 and love it. Is there any advantage in keeping it now and not updrading besides the possible brick factor?
it seems some of us hv dis problem. yr psp freezed bcoz if yr homebrews r not kept in "GAME150" folder. + alway u must hv have the original "GAME" folder. dis 2 folders must in the same directory as in PSP folder. b4 u use the recovery option, the "GAME folder is by default customised for 2.71 compatible hombrew.
As DA entioned in the read me "...There maybe some exceptions of few programs that interfere with the reboot system of SE...Programs that hacks the flash like xflash, pspset, sxt version changer, etc are not recommended to be used here." I know it was very simple with 1.5 but this SE-B is a merging fw of 1.5-2.71. just be patient. i believe Art is working on its way to enable X-Flash compatible with SE-B. just dun use any homebrew tat writes to the flash0 4 the time being.
It does require such a program for the moment. I hope running games from a WiFi-connected server will be possible some time soon, cause playing with the usb cable isn't that mobile, is it?
Some of my homebrew appears as corrupt data when I view it in the XMB, I heard this had something to do with the param.sfo, and I also read that there was a fix for this?

mine work perfectly good. at 1st after i install dis package. my wifi also not working as it hanged. but i do a hard reboot + tell my wifi again. it works nice. just try again.
Some isos and csos are shown as corrupted icons. i cant get them to show in the supplied devhook either. Any help with this anyone?
i too tested the SNESTYL and gpsp. they r as thought they were in 1.5. same speed. no error.

i can c my killzone liberation in the xmb game-ms folder together with gpsp + ridge racer 2. they all works fine. btw mine's a .cso
yer iso's are listed in the game menu as if they were homebrew, and yer umd disk loads from the same place it always did its that simple!
all i do at work is listen to mp3's from it so dam im gald that still worx
since SE-B can emulate iso+cso, when u put in backup games into the iso folder, it just appear in the xmb game-ms folder. click + play like normal homebrew. it still load up yr save game data. + upcoming SE-C will support dax 4 better space storage. so why not?

Hello, this sounds pretty sweet and I feel like upgrading, but I wouldn't know what the safest way to do it would be since I am actually on Harleyg's last 1.50 custom firmware...I just need to know what to do first before I go on and follow the readme's instructions....can anybody help me with this?
Use x-flash to restore your psp to factory, how to get there: go to number 15 and press right until you see it. This should also get rid of your custom firmware setup. Afterwards, just follow the instructions in the readme.
i try to do the update from se-a to se-b but my skreen is after a error dark when i restart my psp i only have the chance to recovery in the recovery mode but when i try the "run program at /psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp it says can not found the UPDATE.PBP what can i do what a file is it ?? help

ok you can run Devhook .46 and run Iso's and crap like that. 2.71SE-B still has bugs.... all my ISO's have no problem with devhook. 1.50 will always be the golden frimware... i have tried 2.71SE-A and i liked it for a lil while then didn't .. i can customize it... like you can with 1.50.... but whatever.... i'm staying @ 1.50 < because it's the Best!

Nice update thingy, but having updated from SE-A to SE-B, I still can't seem to use the GAME folder to run 1.50 homebrew. Super Mini Mario worked, though. So the GAME folder likes 1.0 homebrew, but not 1.50, it seems!
Is there a way to run Isos at 333 mhz with this? Or do I have to go through devhook first if I want that extra speed?

hi, ive recently updated to this firmware and it was fine for about 2 hours but suddenly everytime i try to access the game menu on the xmb the psp freezes and reboots ive used the recovery mode to reinstall the firmware but itkeeps doing it, can anyone help?

Personally I think anyone who bricks a PSP is an idiot, and did so because they didn't read all the information (readme.txt) and understand it before they bricked, but that is MY PERSONAL OPINION (just wanted to make sure you saw that part ( I just set myself up to get bi**hed at didn't I?)). But why would you not believe someone who says they bricked? After all we all know that bricks will happen regardless of how idiot-proof these programs are made. It bewilders me as well but there are always people who are just that idiotic that they f**k up something that is idiot-proof (and I realize that this install is far from idiot-proof).

I updated to 271 SEB from SEA and now I have run into a problem. I can't open the memory stick to view or run any homebrew. I can view "Saved Data Utility" but "Memory Stick" freezes once I select it. I tried to downgrade but it gives me an error saying the game cannot be started. I fear I may have inadvertantly deleted the recovery EBOOT folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

I had the freezing problem. Check to see if there is a "iso" folder in the root of your mem stick. I created one and it solved my problem!!!!
I created a folder called "iso" on the root of my mem stick and the problem went away. I still don't know about the recovery folder but that might just be my problem.....

To Anelixc - I do have the folders running, and SE-A runs fine with my current folder structure (I have Game and Game150 both in my PSP directory). Those two are not the issue. I installed se-a using chaos zeros pack and then upgraded using dark alex's upgrade option, simple as that. I still have a few curropt icons showing up even though i have hide them enabled but tis a small price to pay. many thanks again guys and thanks to qj for postin this, oh, before i forget, big thanks to sony for providing hackable firmware updates :-)
Unfortunatly, this didn't work for me. Upgrading from SE-A seemed fine, but my PSP hangs whenever I try to access the memory stick. Recovery time! :-) I'm not suffiently in need of the upgrades this firmware offers to try it again. I'll reflash to SE-A when my battery is fully charged (which is super, BTW.)

i upgraded from se-a everything works great except now i can't use my usb from the xmb. my computer say "USB Device not recognized" and the the "device malfunctioned" I also went to dev hook and emulated 2.6 and i have the same problem.... bummer dude would this qualifly as a partal brick?? Im gonna try to recover and go back to se-a that worked flawlessly. man, my butthole is puckering... this is why i waited so long to mess with my flash... anyone else have this issue??? u can only have EITHER game150 and game (where the 2.71 brew goes) OR game271 and game (where the 1.5 brew goes). you CAN'T have both game150 and game271.

i did this this morning and i am telling you it is working great, forget 1.5 and i get to now retrive that 20mb devhook took up. yay. this is awsome, BTW lay off on the flam on 2.71 se it is a great software. and it you don't wana update don't last thing i wanna here is a group of douches crying over there not gonna updates, like if i wanna know.
It worked fine, but I have problems when try to run the CSOs from "Need For Speed Most Wanted" and "Go Sudoku!". When I run the CSO the PSP show the splash screen, and after return the error "80020148" So, I still have devhook to play thoses games...
Thanks to all people saying that 1.5 is better is still dead wrong. So far i have been able to play games that require 2.80/2.81 off the xmb with no problem like Scobby doo, Ace Combat and Killzone with no problem. Thanks again Dark_Alex cant wait for 2.71 SE-C

The only modchip customers that would regret it are the ones that fried their PSP's trying to install it. I think the rest of them will be in front of us when firmware 3.0 ships.

Ok my name is Justin and i know that you guys will not believe me when i tell you this but i just tried this on my 2.71 TA-082 psp and it WORKED! but heres the trick, i didnt just flash it. I used the AutoExec HenC then switched to firmware 1.50 using devhook launcher. i then followed the instructions percisely and bam im working with a custom firmware for a TA-082! Im just glad i finally (grew some b***s) and did this. Its wierd but i fell like such a man!

I used Hen C and the downgrader to move from 2.71 to 1.5, but my mate updated again to 2.71, and now I can't get it to downgrade! Can anyone help? I get the blue screen with hen C, which is good, and the psp shuts down. When I try to run the downgrader tho, it just gives the usual 'the game could not be started' message. How can I downgrade? Why would you want to do that. Thats would be stupid to me. BEcause with this firmware you dont even need devhook at all so why bother even emulating it when u can have all the benefits just upgrading and u can even use debhoook on this firmware anyways
Make sure everything is in the proper folders and you have all the folders in the right place it goes in the GAME150 folder
Did u set it on the Hide Corrupted Icons from the Config? Hold R and turn on the PSP to get there.

it all worked awesome, untill i decided to check the webbrowder, made the internet connection, tested it.. it just wont connect. im using the same options as i would in devhook runnin 2,71. a WAP security, and just wont connect for some reason. tried to reinstall the firmware 2.71 se-b 3 times but it wont work, so now im back to devhook on 1.5. anyone might know what the problem is? just wanted to let u know...

The lowest firmware that TA-082's can even run is 2.50, so you should be fine.

Probably a stupid question but gotta know for sure, my UMD drive is busted and I haven't swapped it out yet so I have been using my PSP for Emu's but I have a few iso's. Would they boot just like Emu's without a UMD in the drive? If not no big deal, hopefully DA can maybe get that into a future release via a "Virtual UMD Drive" or something. Thanx for any info.

Well if you have a pop up blocking tool bar, that usually blocks the download, try holding the CTRL key to let a singal pop up by, so hold it when you click on the download. Not sure if this applys to you, but it works for me. :-)
If u updates to se-b can u use the generic degrader to downgrade it again if u need to.

wut u do is get a 128mb or up memory card and do wut rct said or get a 128mb or up memory card and go to psp-hacks.com and download the installer then install 2.71 SE-A. After u install SE-A use the simple seb_update in this folder from QJ and use that to update ur psp in 5 seconds.
Very strange... The strangest thing is that the isos are loading OK on devhook. My memory stick is formated with FAT32 (to increase space). I will format to FAT to see what hapens.. Just a try.
Just make sure you have the recovery flasher in your psp/game/recovery folder, then put the 1.50 update in the same folder.

Is now completely useless. Neither UP nor 2.71 SE work on TA-082, so there is absolutely no point to epsilon bios. Hopefully (someday?) we can get something like this on TA-082? Maybe another HEN update that can use 1.50 split apps? Kernal mode maybe? Either way, Dark_Alex continues to impress me.

just put the "flasher for recovery"(it came with 271_SEB) files in the psp/game/recovery directory, in the same folder, put the 1.50 update eboot file.

I would recommend this to any 1.5 user. Honestly, now that you can use the GAME folder, UPGRADE PEOPLE. This has surpassed 1.5, and SE-C will obliterate it.

Dark Alex, very nice work and SE-C is going to be even better with the "no more UMD" option. Rock on. Anyway, a small suggestion based on your readme doc in this firmware and in SE-A. For the love of god man, change the error message for the SEC flash and language changes. Right now you've got "DADADADA" and "987654321"... I know those have to be error messages you put in. Why can't you have something meaningfull in there? Try these... SEC Flash Not Allowed or SEC Flash Update Unsupported and for the other... Language Selection Invalid or Language Selection Not Supported. People won't have to freaking guess and search when they get those then, not to mention it's a whole lot cleaner looking too. Come on dude, stop with the basic ass hacker error messages. You want to be a cool developer, set an example. That is all, keep up the good work!

There's a bug so that if you are missing a folder named "iso" in the root of your memory stick, it hangs when you try to open the game folder and crashes. The quick fix is just to add the "iso" folder and everything will be fine! :P Hope this helps!

originally there r 2 groups of homebrews. the 1.5 homebrew + the 2.71 homebrew. this 2.71 SE-B is created 2 hv the ability 2 run 1.5 + 2.71 homebrew. u need 2 creat a folder called "GAME150" + put it in the same directory as yr original game folder which is in the PSP folder. so all 1.5 homebrew will hv 2 be inside GAME150 folder whilst GAME folder is meant 4 2.71 homebrew (by default). basically 2 play safe, under PSP folder u can hv 3 types of game folder which are the original GAME folder, the GAME150 + the GAME271. the original GAME folder can run 1.5 or 2.71 homebrew depends on how u set it in the recovery mode but can't run both types all together in the same folder...4 the moment
So if we want to install this update, we need to have a 1.50 PSP first or what?

Installed it, works GREAT!! had a problem with it not wanting to do the usbhosts though, but found a work around for it. http://dl.qj.net/DEVHOOK-Launcher-VSHEX-Mod-1.65b-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/10837/catid/151 download that, copy folders dh and psp to respective places on ms, then use "devhook271 flash fix" inside the 271_SEB.rar file, and replace the dh/psp folders that you just replaced (i'm using psphost 1.7.0 with usb enabled btw) load up the "new" devhook (vshexmod 1.65b), select your settings my settings are: Image (any umd) firmware: 2.71(nandflash) Clock (222/111) (tried 333 but it froze a few time--but that was aslo trying to run cwcheat) autorun: disabled usb status: Host Connected woohooooo =) lemme know if this works for you guys as well. there were some problems i did run into when first starting the program, text was black on black, so it was hard to read, the analog stick up and down selects it, left and right to...well, ...sub-dir i guess you can call it, i put it green txt on black background. I'm only running CSO's so dont know about iso's. Home pressed, gets to the ISO/CSO's, held down for 3 sec's gets you the menu (refrain from pressing "X" --use analog left/right)
again....hope this works for everyone.

the game Ace combat may use the old 2.71 files and not the 2.81.. so thus it will work.. i havent downloaded ace combat... but maybe i should.... so just load it in devhook or through 2.71SE-B

i have tryed all of the opinions given like adding the "iso" folder or the "GAME150" file and all that other crap and nothing is working. Does anybody else have this problem? and does anyone have a REAL solution?

so far no reports of bricking during installation provided u hv 2 read the readme.txt very very carefully. at least few time until u can visualise the actual steps to follow.

the great thing about 2.71 se-b is the auto homebrew boot feature, if you brick your psp with some wacked out theme, you can restore the files by simply getting them from and old version of devhook, use theme psp as your boot program annd reflash everything theme psp will allow you too back to normal. ive tried this it worked for me when i jacked up my top right menu.rco

Um, even though i went into the recovery menu and changed the setting "hide corrupt icons" but my corrupt icons are still visible? anyone know what i can do? allso where do i put my ISO's to make them visible on the game memory stick icon? I put an ISO in the GAME folder and it wont show up on the mem stick icon, i allso tried putting it into the GAME150 folder and had the same result, what must i do?
my 1.5 psp just lost its virginty to a 2.71 firmware and created a nice offspring.........at least it wasnt raped by that 2.80 firmware :d
Make Sure again that the ISO folder is in the root of your memory stick and the GAME150 folder is in the psp folder where the other GAME folder is at and not in it make sure you got all the folders there even if they empty
Again peopleare not reading the posts here. THE ISO FOLDER DOES NOT GO IN ANY GAME FOLDER. IT GOES ALONE ON THE ROOT OF YOUR MEMORY STICK

I followed the intructions and succesfully installed 2.71 SE-B. But the ISO/CSO files i put in the ISO folder don't show up in the memory stick menu. I don't know what went wrong. Does anyone have an idea how i can fix this?
When some games freeze up it because its messed up try to get a untouched iso to test out then rip it yourself or watever

i rly luv dis cso/iso option buh i think it will be better if he mar a new catgort for tha iso like there is setting photo music network there should be another one call ISO's n tha memory stick icon should lead to ms0:\psp\iso this way people wid alot of homebrew can be more organized and serperate tha iso from applications just my opinion

what are "2.71 games"? Are they somehow different from 1.5 games? I've never even seen where you can download a 2.71 version of a homebrew. sry for the stupid question, but i've been on fw 1.5 since may of last year, and i'm just beginning to think about upgrading now that this custom fw has all the features of 1.5 and 2.71.

As long as you read the readme.txt file a couple of times you wont brick it... just go slow and ask any questions here if you need help
Here is the problem that I had: I've read everything in the readme.txt line by line. I did everything correct and my PSP rebooted the 2.71 SE-B without a problem. I checked the version with a smile on my face and then tried to enter the Game folder in the XMB. And then my smile and my PSP just get froze. I restarted it and create a GAME150 folder (by the way I already had GAME folder) and tried it again and it didn't work. I also tried with a UMD inside and got the same problem again. I couldn't enter the GAME folder. So I recovered back to the 1.50. My PSP is 1006, I have a 1GB MS and I don't know what went wrong.
create an ISO folder in yr ms_root side by side with the PSP folder. dis will solve yr problem
i read in the read me you can port it to eloader running firmwares and update to it.so i was woundering if there is a port or some one can make a 1 cos im really anxious about writing to flash especally 2 times!
I have had the same problem with one of my games, Super Money Ball Adventure (other games work). The CSO works fine in Devhook, but hangs when loading. Kinds sucks, I think this will become a common issue with think fw version. I currently have the compression set to 10, I will reduce it a bit and see if that helps. DA I really appreciate and respect your work, well done. I look forward to your future updates.
Maybe this helps to you all guys who cant play iso/cso i haveing the same problem but make sure you have iso/cso in ISO folder in root the same folder where it is the PSP Folder then when you put the game make sure you have a UMD in your PSP and make sure its a UMD GAME i tried with a UMD movie the first time Spiderman 2 and doesnt work but when im tried with my GTA liberty city or metal gear acid work perfectly i hope this help
ive semi bricked my psp updating to this. my recovery mode isnt working properly either!!!!!!!!wont boot 1.5 upddate or any update for that matter (yes i have all the rite files in the right directories.) boll*cks damn f**kin thing. lol need a hand

Just to confirm the ISO that the CSO file doesn't work using the firmware either. Still works in Devhook. On the second loading screen of Super Monkey Balls you can see the red data light flashing, then it stops. About 5 seconds later the PSP turns off. Hopefully this doesn't occur with to many ISO/CSO files, just thought I should due my duty and report the issue :). Everything else works find. And for all the those people with game loading problems, READ THE READ ME DAMNIT! ISO FOLDER IN ROOT OF MEMORY STICK!!!
how do you uninstall the custom firmware?
that's why i don't update to this, too many bugs.. you can't customize it. well you can but .. no XFLASH! i can do everythingyou can do with my 1.50 .. just use devhook... less problems... an alot easier ! lol

alot easier my ass and it doesnt have too many bugs you can hid ethe corrupted icons by botting up your psp holding the R to get to configuration

Jordan, I´ve had reported the same problem... My CSOs from Need for Speed Most Wanted and Go Sudoku don´t work on this firmware (but works fine in devhook). I have converted them back to ISO, but ain´t no work. So, I´m waitin the next version.

Hey, it's the 3rd time I try it (downgraded and reinstalled, even went with the new easy installer) and I still get the same problem... I don't hate Dark_Alex, I think his stuff is the best - the greatest developer of the scene IMO. Still, my PSP wont play MP3 and is very unstable with SE-B... :( I'll stick to Devhook for a bit longer I guess. Microb P.S. If I'm the only one in this situation, then I'm happy for all the others for whom it works.
I am not an expert with this kind of stuff, I just installed this 2.71SE-B and everything run perfect with instillation, but when I tiring to run mi ISO I have the following error “the game could not be started (80020321). I been tiring several ISOs but I have same error. Thanks again for your help.

I loved SE-A and SE-B is even better. It seems like all of the psp ROMs I download are in the DAX format though so I can't wait until SE-C is released. A note to all new SE-B upgraders, you need to make a folder in the root of your PSP named ISO or it will freeze everytime you access the memory card from your game menu. I thought the SE-B was corrupt so I went into recovery mode and went back down to SE-A. So your mem card should look like: ISO MS_ROOT (or M*_Root) PSP Dark_alex you are a freaking genius keep up the exelent work!

I had the same problem. It should look like: ISO MS_Root PSP
all you have to do is make an ISO folder int he root of your memory card it should work fine..... i dont know how but it works

as always, in original 1.50, u can read the description when u highlight a umd game or an emulated iso in xmb. it describe the title of the game loaded or emulated. well i've been testing many cso. though they work flawlessly in 2.71 se-b but does any1 notice tat all the csos shown in xmb-gamemenu-memorystick hv missing description? i can only see the animated cso (icon.pmf) showing in the xmb without any decription. some1 pls confirm. i think is a lack of coding in 2.71 se-b.
I finally got some of my backups to run. I had tried a few game UMDs and movie UMDs but they still wouldn't load. What finally worked for me was using the demo disk that came with my PSP. Now all my ISOs run great. Hope that helps someone else.
How do i check if i have TA-082?
Check inside of your UMD drawer for numbers. If you don't have any numbers in there you are good.

Sorry guys, just solved my own problem, there is in fact a difference between how game UMDs and movie UMDs are read. Just make sure, if you ever get the (80010002) error and have a UMD in the drive, just make sure it's a game UMD and it should work just fine. Thanks kyo_52!!!! THANKS DARK_ALEX!!! i am currently at 1.50 (downgraded from 2.71) ... and this custom firmwares are very interesting.There are many reports of people that got this to work ,but i am still scared to do this because i do not want to brick my psp.i was just wondering...couldn't they make an update the way sony does it. That would be safer i think :)
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems while playing Madden 07 in the new 2.71 SEB, because since I have upgraded to this firmware, I have played Madden 07 three times, and it has froze on me each time a few minutes after starting a game. I can still go back to the XMB Menu by pressing the Home button, but it sucks that I can't even make it to the second quarter without it freezing up. There is nothing wrong with the game and it worked fine on my 1.50 before I upgraded, and it also doesn't work on my friend's 2.71 SEB. I installed the firmware just as I was suppose to, I followed step by step, yet, this problem occurs. Has this happened to anyone else in Madden or any other game for that matter? Perhaps a glitch in the firmware? In any case, this is an awesome upgrade and I would like to thank Dark Alex for making such a great custom firmware! Hopefully he could fix this glitch, that is if it exists.
I have everything installed and it works great, however, can I delete all those updaters from my memory stick or do I have to leave them on the mem ory stick?
I have played Madden for a half and no freezes for me.
i love it but have a couple of problems when i'm running any of my emulators from "GAME150", don't see any folders (to open roms from) inside the "GAME150" folder. to the emus the GAME150 folder appears to be completely empty. other homebrews see it though… for some reason, i can't get ANY homebrew from "GAME" to work. yes, i've tried adjusting in recovery mode. and lastly, of course, a way to hide corrupt icons is badly needed. the preference option in recovery mode hides like 2 of them or something lame. and the game menu is very slow too… and now i have another question: i don't have an "iso" folder on the root of my ms, but i don't get any of this XMB crashing that everyone is talking about. but thank you DA this is awesome…
Cant you put this 2.80... I Tried it said game could not be started but it showed the PSP logo and the sound. could'nt u fool the OS to think the update with the 2.71 SE -B adds but put it as v2.82 (just 2 b safe) CE (Crappy Edition!) or 2.80 CE A.... DANG IT I WANNA PLAY MY HOMEBREW... Since i updated (New GAME made me do it!) I miss my GTA... Duke Nukem Cries because i can't kick alien butt anywere i go with out a laptop! and i get more frustrated when i cant KETM to drown my anger in to death filled happyness (of cource real killing is not what a do... i am a cereal killer... Haven't been keeping up with the homebrew community as of late. Sorry if I sound like a noob. Im running 2.0 Can I upgrade to the 2.71 SE-B directly or do I have to downgrade to 1.5 If so, then that would mean I have to upgrade to 2.71, install and run Hen-C, install and run the generic downgrader, then upgrade back to 2.71 SE-B. That sound right to anyone else?
This firmware is just awesome. I tried the new revisions and turned on the no UMD mode, and it's compatibility so far is fantastic.
k...so if my psp went into a partal brick by the 2.71 kenal bein' gone i could use the recovery menu because that uses 1.50 kernal rite?........But wat if the 1.50 kernal gets wiped out?.....then wat?...then i couldn't use the recovery menu 2 fix it cuz it only runs in 1.50 kernal rite? plz answer P.S. Using 2.80's ability of TIFF. using FileAssistant (tiff) to copy FLASH0: FLASH1: Files.. BTW i tried running this and it said Game Could not be started.....
I was reluctant to install this revision because i can't play thru USB. I did it, it took all of about 1 minute, and i luv it!! Anxiously awaiting SE-C to play thru USB.
Another thing to consider eventually adding to 2.71SE, will be the ability to use memsticks greater than 4gb (as is possible in 2.81+). May be easier to hack 2.81 firmware. 8gb sticks are already out at about $160 a piece, and I would expect in the future capacities will go higher. I imagine when 32gb mem sticks are affordable, having a firmware that is limited to 4gb will then become a nuisance. Just add this to your features to add list.
I did need 3 *****ing hours to find out how to - downgrade my psp 2.60 App the 2.6 -> 1.5 downgrader wouldnt work so i used the flash utility from dar_alex his website and followed instructions. - Then upgraded towards 2.71 SE-B - Did all the pacthes up to 2.71 SE-B3 And it works *****ING GREAT THIS IS REALLY, damm.... no words to describe my luck, sniff I put dungeon siege iso : throne of agony in the ISO folder & I just fired it UP , IT WORKED DIRECTLY !!!! it says that "after installing the custom firmware, theres not much space left on the flash 0, so its best to use the downgrader to clear useless files." how do i go about doing this??
so i was enjoying se-b until mlb the show decided to stop working. i thought it might be the iso so i ripped it again and compressed it but it still would hang at boot. same with the the uncompressed version. vcs still works but the show wont load. i downgraded to 1.5 and it ran fine in devhook. so i tried to reflash to se-b again and it still hangs. also hangs in devhook. anyone else have a problem with a game loading and then randomly stop working?

I know someone mentioned earlier that it does work on jap psp but do i need japanese version of 2.71 and 1.50 firmware to compile the custom firmware and will i also need to use jap version of 1.50 to downgrade first (im curretnyl running 2.71)

i just upgraded to 2.71 se-b'' and everything works til i either play a game, start the web browser or when i view photos. when choosing one of those 3, it automatically goes down as if the analogue stick is pressed down and stays stuck. is there away to fix it?

Currently I'm on 2.71 SE-A and go to run the SE-B updater which is sitting in the GAME150 folder. I get "Press X to start the update" as usual. Then When I do I get: "ERROR: the program has to be executed in the 1.50 kernel." Any idea why?
IF YOUR PSP FREEZES AT SELECTING MEMORY STICK ON GAMES!! I found the solution (disregard if it's been posted, I didn't check all the posts) Start in revocer mode (reboot and hold R) Toggle USB Put the 2.71 b' update in /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY Have it run that file from the recovery mode

Haha! ***** you $ony! I almost updated to 2.8 to play a soccer demo when I bought my PSP (2.6). I bought the "Value Pack" but the crappy little 32MB Mem Stick couldn't fit the updat and the demo. Do you have SE-A at moment. I upgraded mine from SE-A and it only took about 5 seconds. You need to go from 1.5 to 1.72 SE-A then to SE-B'
