zx81 unleashes PSPVBA v1.0.4!

PSPVBA

zx81 is my favorite developer. And it's for a reason. This guy simply doesn't know how to stop once he gets rolling. He's done it before with countless emulators, and now, he's doing it again with the GBA emulator, in the way only he can.

Update after update after update! The GBA emulator, PSPVBA has received another big update! I'd assume that most of you are familiar with his speed. So let's cut to the chase, shall we? The emulator has received another boost. I'll let him do the explanation in the changelog:

Emulator menu is now directly available on startup
Add turbo modes, but it can result in graphic artifacts but you can win up to 20% ! (turbo modes don't work for all games)
Add ARM tick average change option (can be used to increase speed)
The file default.kbd (keyboard mapping) is now loaded on startup
Screenshots are now save in BMP format instead of PNG (less memory consuming, so it should not freeze your PSP).
Many more bug fixes

And as usual, the application is released under the GPL license, which means that the source is bundled along. Plus, there are 2 separate versions, one for 1.5 and the other for 2.0 and above.

One note of caution though, the emulator doesn't work on 2.0 using the TIFF exploit. If you're running it on 2.0 or above, you'll need to use the GTA exploit.

Have aldrady played most GBAgames with my GBA and flashcard(s), but it always nice to know you can have them on your PSP.

and 4mb rom was pretty much standard for GBAroms that was first released, its about 32Mbit. Biggest rom to GBA that does exist today is 256Mbit (32mb). But I think it exist one ROM that is bigger, 512Mbit (64mb), was some *****ty Sims (bustin out) game.

speed seems the same for me. But dont argue about it since it reequires a lot of work.....but then again.....if there is a n64 emulator......it should not be long for a full speed version.

Yeah, you should try to release updates less frequently. Like say you found this stuff out, well, don't release it yet. Find other improvements to it, then release that update or an update after that. Because then people would have to keep downloading and uploading the emulator to their PSP then getting the ROMs every time an update comes out (which is like every week or more!). Hope you get what I'm saying. Just a suggestion though.

uhh #21 im confuzzled... why do u have to keep dowloading the roms

heres an idea for you... dont delete the roms... just put the new version in over the old that way all of your roms,keyboards, savestates and all of your screenshots will still be there and just the files that were changed would be different and u could start it up and run all of your roms with their savestates.

btw great work from what the article says and keep it up. ill test it out as soon as i get my psp back(downgraded it saturday afternoon... got grounded sunday morning for not knowing how to tie a tie.)

Nice update. I don't know why people keep saying that they can't get ROMs over a certain size to work. Practically every ROM I've tried works (except Kingdom Hearts), you're not running them zipped are you?

#21: I've got an idea, if you get tired of downloading your ROMs every time an update is released, maybe you should just... like.... not delete them or something....

I for one, love the updates, it's not like it takes a long time to upload them to the PSP or anything. Kudos zx-81.

This is pretty cool, but i hope this doesnt become like the snesY emulator, there was a release every day! but the only updates were a few graphic and a few sound fixes, i remember that there were like 32 releases, but the speed was pretty bad...

I hope this guy keeps working on this, i would love to have a full speed gba emulator.

To the guy whop keeps saying hes playing mother 3 translated everytime a new version of this comes out, you are so full of *****. Not only is that game not translated (yet!) but the original japanese version of it will not run on ANY gba advance emulators. I know because ive tried. Its 32 mb and just results in a white screen amd reboot (in every gba emu) so EVEN if you somehow did have a hacked english version, it would be even more unstable than the original. I hope you feel accomplished now that one person has responded to your idiocy.

BTW what is the full speed for gba? 60 right?

Can anyone tell me what the percentage next to the FPS relates to? is it 100% is base with no frame skip, turbo ect. anything above is with the options cranked up?

Im glad to see someone working on this. the last gba emu i tried i gave up on becouse of the way you had to load the roms.

Use torrent sites for GBA roms and practically everything else :)

On the most popular torrent site you will find ALL the GBA roms zipped in packages.

Search for them.

Dont worry about them, you release as often as you like cause you're cool like that. Its nice that you release updates often cause i like to come to this site and find something new to download every day, not that you have to release everyday. Besides some people are just lazy by not wanting to update.

It looks like the PSP auto shuts up (after a few long seconds) when trying to access KHCoM. It's like..when you load it and then TRY to press anything, it'll just...go blank and turn off...but everything is running fine. I usually try MegaMan Battle Network 6 Gregar Version and I'm seeing improvements in that so there is definately improvement in this emu :).

I for one am very pleased with the sudden surge of updates for GBA, for months I saw nothing update, I feared nothing would enhance in the world of PSP GBA emulators. Thank you zx81 for giving me some hope that I may one day play Zone of The Enders: Fist of Mars, glitch/problem free. Keep up the good work.
