Ever had the "It couldn't get any worse, but then it suddenly does" days? Well, here's something in reverse. Most of you are probably savoring the recent release of PSMonkey's Monkey64 version v2.0, well apparently the emulator is about to get better with the developer revealing that he "figured out a posible spot to increase speed & will try testing it out later tonight".
PSMonkey said he "also found out that implementing a texture cache should speed up a few roms (specialy quest which jumped to about 17-20fps inside the castle)". Can you repeat after me, "The day couldn't get any better". To check out the previously released version, download below.

Old news? Considering most homebrew works flawlessly on 1.5, I'd say the amount of releases based on the firmware makes it pretty *****ing new and relevent news.

oh yea, to those 2.6 and 2.7 big N00bs out there, 1.5 has got similar stuff to 2.6. example, PimpStreamer 0.5, stream RSS videos and videos from your computer.

Here is summery by another user of what I ment.
"Quest 64 only runs at 20 FPS inside the first castle but drops to a very slow rate once you go outside. He later said 'I have not implemented it. I did some test and disabled recompiling textures (so pretty much everything is either black or shows a hud texture) to see what effects it would have on the framerate.'(referring to the texture cache)."
It was just a test to see how much of an impact texture cache would really make. Most games saw no boost to 1-3 fps boost with texture compiling turned off. Even with a texture cache implemented its not going to be the target speed since the psp is so low on ram (and quest is a wopping 16mb rom already) I wont be able to cache much at all.

Truthfuly i don't give a rats ass if some looser here who isn't a coder does not believe I wrote this my self. He is just going to flame me anyways. It's always one excuse after another to just flame me.
If you wish to see the source. Just pm me your email address on my forums and I will send it over asap. I'm just far too busy with work (i'm in the middle of beta for my project at work) to go though, comment, clean up & throw a license on it for a general public release.

Hrm... if you're so amazing in your coding abilities that you can accomplish the previously impossible, you certainly don't need to rip someone elses code in the first place.
To those crying about it being stolen code. Maybe he did borrow code? How should any of us know. The burden of proof is on the accuser though. It's your responsibility to disassemble the executable and figure it out. If it's stolen, it shouldn't take you long at all to figure it out. Or, more likely, you don't do that. It would ruin your excuse to whine.

Donkys emu is far better, then come on and pretend to be donky, get a life, there is no time for wasters like you, donky is most likely fake, or maby he didnt release his emu because he didnt want noobs who dont have a clue to bug him every second. and i wont be suprised if monkey does the same, and if he does, it will be because of you god dam DEV dissin noobz. and for god sake stop asking what emu is the fastest, because they are both unplayable and will be for a while yet, once they are both nearing the final releases you can pass comments then, but if your going to nag as they are being developed and betas are being released, you might as well update to 2.7!

we dont need to stream music or tv from our pc's via wifi because if you need to cart a pc round with you whats the point? watch/listen to it on your pc its got a bigger screen, most ported games are playable on 2+ or are available via emulators ie snes megadrive neocd etc, we can still go on the net with out the other shells, and we can still save music and vids on our memory card
so why is 1.5 better??? its not fooker

2.0 means 2nd release... he puts it out for people to try on all psp version 1.0 to 2+ and report faults and bugs, but obviously everyone knows its slow, and not fully compatable, thats because its a WIP

So why instead of complaining u build a better one, if u can( with out asking or using his source code)... if u cant then u just gonna have to suck it up that PSmonkey is a great coder and whether he copied or not so what? ( although i believe he did this from scratch) at least he did the emu!!

Search the code for this and disable the cache functions that follow it. Also in the texture.cpp, disable the

Thanks for putting up with all of the BS you have had to deal with. Keep doing what you do and make the best N64 emulator that you can. I do believe and hope that you can do it. Thanks for what you have done so far, it's incredible, even though it may not be fine tuned, I can tell you have worked hard and will continue to do so. God Bless!

But your flames would be completely misguided even if this weren't true, because the nature of open source coding (which applies to both PSMonkey's emulator and pj64) allows for the copying, either in whole or part, the source code, then modifying it for specific purposes. This is simply how it works.
For those of you who have never coded, it may be difficult to understand, but it is a *very, very* intensive and time-consuming process. If you can save time by copying and modifying header files from similar apps to save a week's work, then why not? *There is nothing wrong, unethical or illegal about doing this.* It is encouraged in open-source programming. In fact, theoretically, the more PSMonkey copies code from other projects, the faster he delivers a fast end-result to you. So my question is, why the ***** are you complaining?
BUT...that all doesn't matter, because at least 90% of his code is original, so b.itching about copying is debunked on two levels. And that leaves one other issue to address. Another user was slamming monkey for saying he wrote the code from scratch, when really, monkey did no reverse-engineering on a Nintendo 64 hardware. This is also misguided.
"From scratch" doesn't mean literally from square one...interfacing a 64 to a computer, reverse-engineering the hardware, and coding emulation software from scratch. This would be unnecessarily cumbersome and time-consuming because people have already done it. I would guess that Monkey meant he coded the application from scratch, which as far as I can tell, is true.
Is PSMonkey a "code thief"? Absolutely not, even though that is impossible in this case. Is he a hardware hacker? Absolutely not. Is he a dedicated programmer who wishes to do us all a service by coding a stable, fast N64 emulator for the PSP? Absolutely. Thank you, PSMonkey. You have my full support.

i can load the emulator
i put mario 64 in the monkey 64 folder but it doesnt work
its like that psp/game/monkey64/super_mario_64_ (U)_[!].epr
before trying to load a rom i put the setting to fast3d ext
but when i click on load rom my psp freeze and then shut down
btw i dont see mario 64 in the list , am i suposed to ?
