Vids of PS1 games on OE-B! *updated*

Ó

Steve-O (probably not the one from "Jackass") let us know of a clip he put up on YouTube. If there's one thing Dark_Alex's OE-B can definitely do, it's bring some decidedly dead videogame characters back to life.

Duke Nukem is a case in point. You could have raised a puppy from birth to death in the time it's taken for Duke Nukem Forever to see the light of day, and it's still not here. For all intents and purposes, the pretty alien babes he's been trying to save are now old and decrepit, and his guns fire rust instead of bullets.

Here's a video showing Steve-O playing the PS1 version of Duke Nukem: Time to Kill on his PSP. The video is kind of spotty due to the use of a camera phone, but there's enough detail to show that it really is the Duke blasting away on your handheld.

How can we be sure? He ends up dead as a doorknob at the end of the video, kinda like the rest of the franchise.

Update: PSPMeep sent us another tip with a video of him playing Crash Bandicoot#@%!1415#@%! using the OE-B firmware. It doesn't feel like it's running at full speed, but that just may be a trick of the camera.

Now that we have two videos of PS1 games running on Dark_Alex's homebrew, feel free to send us a tip with your own videos. Posting a link on the comments here might also grab our attention, but the funny little hamsters at the YouTube page kinda mess with how the videos look.

In any case, if you send more, maybe we can come up with an eventual mini-library of games that work with OE-B. The video proof will definitely help make things more official. Enjoy!

you have to place the update folder in the game150 dir even tho there is only 1 folder
by Rok - 2006-12-25 18:17:13
You have the right file?

Get the update here http://dl.qj.net/dl.php?fid+11922 and place the OEB_UPDATE folder inside your GAME folder it should look like this: X:\PSP\GAME\OEB_UPDATE\EBOOT.PBP than just run the update. I hope that will help you.

The games you must be using are probabally PAL instead of NTSC...

My video of playing Xenogears.

by - 2006-12-25 19:37:07
Me too, bro.

All of these PSX games are too big for my tiny 256mb card.
by - 2006-12-25 19:44:49
YAY!!!

thx for confirming xenogears, now gotta go to my collection. By the way the opening is damn long
by - 2006-12-25 19:52:47
hpw big..

is the ff7 file i have a 1 gig is that alright?
by - 2006-12-25 20:08:16
yeah

That cell's quality was better than some of those huge camcorders that some use to show these things....
by - 2006-12-25 20:13:43
1gig will hold any game.

They come upto 730MB max. (One disc, you won't get all 3 discs on, that'd need a 4gig card.) Anyway why post videos of everything you find works? Most games do work, very few don't.
by - 2006-12-25 20:18:48
here's how

the popstation will take bin/iso and certain others as well. So take your bin or iso ( I recommend bin format, I had quite a few black screens with iso format). Run your command line as usual and convert the bin into an eboot. Once created, copy both the eboot the keys.bin into a folder in PSP/GAME on the memory stick. It should work just fine.
by DiabloTerrorGF - 2006-12-25 20:24:00
It works great.

I had to use a .bin instead of a .iso though it may of just been the program I was using. Also, the music is really crappy sounding but that's because the range on the PSP speakers suck. When using headphones the game sounds perfect.
by - 2006-12-25 20:30:52
LOVE IT

gosh i love duke nukem, I have all games, besides the DOS ones and Duke 3D :P
by - 2006-12-25 21:40:27
That game

Sucked. I remember my friend's little brother paid $40 for it back in 1998 or 1999.
by ultragoregrind - 2006-12-25 22:25:01
GT2 works

i just ripped the gran turismo 2 simulation disk to an iso from my own disk, and used the hot shots method and well GT2 runs! seems flawless so far (no speed issues).
by - 2006-12-25 22:36:18
FF Tactics + FF7 Gameplay

In case anyone was still wondering if these games worked, I took a very simple video of both games, mostly of FF7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+w4hiOe06TJ0
by comedy - 2006-12-25 23:02:28
for those in pal areas... unhappy news my friends

yes, most games at least have 'problems' with many not working. i have tested a few, i got ff7 to get half way through intro: my heart broke... ff8 didn't run... ufo:enemy unknown runs but some of the text screws up etc. basically you need ntsc games! it's not a good thing... but it's not the end of the world, there's always the internet for acquiring other iso's. ff9 ntsc works like a dream btw - really, i was feeling like death when my pal games weren't playing ball, then i remembered my ntsc version of ff9! hooray
by - 2006-12-25 23:02:58
eboot

how do u create eboot with ur original ISO? wut program?

OMFG

Some one who has a video camera post a Video of FF7 and put it on Youtube and correctly put the link in reply! I Sooooo wanna see this. You know If it runs 2marro I'm buying a second PSP just for Homebrew. Please make sure the youtube link works before posting it. ^.^;;
by - 2006-12-25 23:14:10
hmm so far..

I got Final Fantasy : Tactics, Castlevania : Symphony of the Night and Vanguard Bandits working perfectly. I'm currently converting Breath of Fire IV ^_^;; The only problem I've encountered so far is that I'm unable to run PSP Guilty Gear XX #Reload off the XMB so I have no choice to move on with Guilty Gear Judgement which takes more space off my memory stick and I don't really care about the scroll-fighting game that's in it! T__T Peace~
by Shamoo - 2006-12-25 23:14:39
Post a video

Post a video link and put it on youtube.
by - 2006-12-25 23:16:53
FF7

Does POPS support disc changing for multi-disc games yet? I'd love to play FF7 as much as anyone but getting stuck at the end of disc 1 would be a major issue.
by - 2006-12-25 23:17:08
The next thing this bios needs

is a Up on the memory limit on the duo slot. Get it to accept 137 gig + so someone will make a Duo to Ide HD :-)
by - 2006-12-25 23:29:25
quick mention

the first ripped PSX game I threw on worked like a charm: VAGRANT STORY! there's a tiny little bit of slowdown at times, but so far nothing that makes it close to unplayable. slowdowns have occurred before a battle with a big enemy gets going, and when you enter first-person view. otherwise it's running marvelously...go rip your copies now!
by - 2006-12-25 23:30:19
Final Fantasy VII - Works 100%

Recorded a video, title, intro, and first battle. Would've caught the victory fanfare but the memory card ran out of memory! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW4m0gkei9k

.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-gYz5Kk7zE Here's a video of Tales of destiny. I'm also showing off CWCheat, the screen sizes and the button assigns. Just so people who are thinking about getting or want to know about the PSOne emu, can see what it can do for now. I just uploaded it, so you may have to give it a bit.
by - 2006-12-26 00:14:04
Nice!

Great vid man, good showcase. God I love this!
by - 2006-12-26 00:35:57
Camera

Camera Phone so it probably records like at 15 FPS or less. I can this: A game either runs at 100% speed or not at all. (though some GFX issues occur on PAL and certain titles) And RE2 starts but freezes inside the police station. I think that has something to do with the pre-rendered backgrounds but I dont know.
by Shamoo - 2006-12-26 00:55:37
YOU ARE GOD FOR POSTING THIS

QJ BETTER PUT THIS LINK IN THE POST!!! I'm showing all my friends this.

My old Silent Hill works! Wow, looks like the original. I am impressed
by isti - 2006-12-26 01:49:44
:)

I've used crash bandicoot as base.pbp, and Destruction Derby worked fine.. Tekken 3 mini iso didn't.. :( I'll try to grab my original.. 100NES games also worked.. was a bit slow.. since it's a PS1 homebrew :D gonna try Mortal Kombat 2 in a minute.. :D nice work Dark_AleX!! Happy Holidays everyone! *

Great Vid of FF7 in action!

Re: FF7 Disc Swapping and Video in Action

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+CW4m0gkei9k There's a working link for my vid. (Somehow the equal sign turned into a plus sign in your link, Shamoo.) Forgot to login when I posted that, ah well. But yeah, there's the vid, living proof that Christmas '06 is a day that won't be forgotten for the PSP Scene... And in response to dixiechicken, it shouldn't matter if there's multi-disc support for this. At the end of each CD, you are given the opportunity to save before switching discs (most games do this, some don't. The FF's are in the clear, though). At that point, you'd shut the system off and replace the EBOOT with the next disc's. ;)
by jkoz - 2006-12-26 01:59:07
Hm... the youtube link keeps changing itself

Looks like it's a problem on QJ's end of things, the link is automatically mutated. Replace the "+" with a "+" and the video should work. For the hell of it I'll try again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+CW4m0gkei9k
by jkoz - 2006-12-26 02:08:33
Youtube links keep getting messed...

Looks like it's a problem on QJ's end of things, the link is automatically mutated. Replace the "+" with a "+" and the video should work.... not sure why it does this.

i got...

I got Tombi (PAL, I think) (or Tomba as it's known in America) to work flawlessly, although there were a few small graphical errors, got quite far in before I tried the next game. Klonoa (PAL) however, has problems. There were a few graphical errors in the enemies, and the game freezes after the first level just after you save. I loaded the game back up and used the save to access the next level, but during the cutscene before the first boss, I noticed the boss model did not appear, and the moment I regained control after the cutscene, the game crashed again. I tried again and it crashed again. I am trying to locate an NTSC edition of Klonoa, and I will post again if I am successful.

works evin better than on my psx buut i do have a off brand model. cant wait to get my first disk of ff9 back from a friend. hopefully there aint no problems with playin it. but tactics is perfect.
by - 2007-01-08 13:09:51
if you're having problems getting ffvii to load, but it is showing up on your psp properly

what you need to do is make sure your ffvii folder that has the eboot.pbp and the keys.bin file, make sure that ffvii folder is in the game folder, not the game303 folder, not the iso folder in the root, not the game150 folder, just the regular game folder. i feel like an idiot for not trying that sooner, but i had specific instructions from someone to make sure to put it in the game303 folder, well they were wrong apaprently, cause right now im rocking out on ffvii, full speed, its amazing. midgar here i come *****es!
