PSP - Image 1It's been a while since we last posted any updates on RIN, Mr. Mirakichi's excellent GameBoy and GameBoy Color emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable. That changed today when davex released a new mod of the emulator on our PSP Development Forums.

Davex's RIN mod adds two new features: Rewind and Mirror. The former is a nifty little Sands of Time-like feature that lets players warp back in time without using save states. By default, the rewind button is mapped to the PSP's right trigger button - this can be changed in the Key Config menu.

The second feature, Mirror, horizontally inverts all game graphics. For example, if you're playing a platformer that's played from left to right, the Mirror feature will let you play it from right to left instead. Switching between normal and Mirror modes can be done through the Screen Size menu.

Davex's RIN mod is for version 1.32 of the RIN GB/GBC emulator. Please read the readme file included in the download before you install it. For bug reports and the like, click on the Visit link below.

.

That mirror feature would be useful if you're ever playing something that ends up going right to left on you. Since we're all so used to playing left to right, we could switch it to the way we're comfortable with. Not sure how often that's going to happen though. The rewind feature is also pretty cool. It'll give you the courage to try things you normally wouldn't try, because if it goes wrong, you can just rewind. Pretty cool stuff.

stupid

I thin that the rewind button is a stupid idea as this means that the games will then loose all the challenge as if you make a mistake you jus rewind thats just noobish

no difference

in other words, NO DIFFERENCE then using save states. That is, in my eyes, cheating as well...

Sound bug?

Is the sound bug fixed? Sometimes when you go into the menu to load another game you'll lose all sound.

Regardless

Regardless of whether it is cheating or not, it's a nice feature to have. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. No one's stopping you from completing the game as it is intended.
