Ó
Well there is good news and bad news. First the good news, the network play is working albeit with a few disconnects. Now the bad news, there are some rendering issues in certain games. The developers are working on the problems and although they won't have a release this week-end they will be releasing a usable version of Snes9xTYL 0.4 soon (hopefully in a couple of weeks). You can read the post at Yoyofr's Stuff and get it in his words. Hopefully there will be a release soon, this has to be one of the most anticipated releases that the homebrew scene as seen to date.

I tried S.Mario All Starts just to test that, it runs pretty slow!
I also tried Donkey Kong Country it runs very slow as well, not terribly slow, but no way comparible to how NES and GB emu's run..
Any ideas or any Optimal settings you can share?
Thanks!
Oh, and I wish you could save the settings in a seperate file so people can share their best settings.. :)

Well, you will never have games like Star Ocean, StarFox or other games at full speed. Because PSP miss the raw power to do it.
While, other emulator are using less power to emulate the target console, allowing for higher framerate.
>> For the per game profile, nobody notice it, but IT IS inside TYL since 0.2

i've noticed that some games with vertical scrolling screens, (super metroid, out of this world, etc) are not displaying those particular rooms/areas correctly, resulting in not being able to navigate those rooms..
i know kinks are being worked out and what not, but i was so excited to get those two games in particular (my two snes favs) only to be shot down by vertical scrolling issues.. metriod in particular, i managed through the top-down room the first time through, just wandering until i fell to the correct floor, but on my way back (which is in the beginning when you have to hurry out before the space station blows up) would never have been able to find the platforms to jump to.
anywho, not flaming anyone, just bringing a bug to light.

No offense, but please take a look into the idea of emulation before making some absurd comment about comparing native games to emulation. To emulate a system requires another system multiple time the power of the original, as well as the coding knowledge to recreate all of the hardware of the original IN SOFTWARE ALONE, then routing those systems into the hardware you're running it on. Does the PSP have all the original chips from the SNES? Hell no, and that means a software version of it has to be recreated and running in order to properly process the SNES ROM. The PSP IS lacking in power to sufficiently run a SNES emulator at 100% speed with 100% function.

Exactly. Emulation is VERY POWER consuming.
To simulate a 10 Mhz CPU (A) you roughly need a 200 Mhz of CPU (B).
Of course, it is more complex than that (like emulating a MIPS over a MIPS could improve the situation) or use special technique to speed up (JIT, etc...)
Anyway the PSP to EMULATE a SNES is FULLY busy to do so.(The real snes cpu is only 1.8 Mhz actually !!!)
But emulate the CPU + APU + GPU + the PSP glue code over it, it is a job for a 800 Mhz cpu to have everything smooth.(including the coprocessor of the games like SuperFX, etc...)
Now the superFX alone is a double 10Mhz cpu. (two core at 10 Mhz). Just to emulate that your PSP is consuming most of its cpu.
Of course, some tuning could be done to improve that situation, but is it worth the time spent in dev ?
May be to get a 30% more speed, we could have to spend 3x the time done already on TYL.(and believe me, there is a LOT of tuning done already)

I suggest you stop nagging like a little jealous ho & look at the facts of life. You own a 2.6...most homebrew is playable+you can already play ALL native games. I own a 1.50...complete homebrew availability+ne ed help of UMD loaders to load a few recent games. I bought a copy of the Street Fighter Alpha 3 UMD the day it came out & even with all these UMD loaders out, I still haven't been able to play it. Stick to your extensive PSP game library and thank fanjita for the homebrew you have & let us 1.5 users enjoy our wifi SnesTYL...After all, it's just what life is like in the real world, where no one can have it all ;).

My PSP is version 2.00 so I wont be able to use the Wi-Fi option, therefore unless the new version also comes with a speed increase and better stability than version .3, I think upgrading to the new version will not be necessary (or even recommended) for anyone other than 1.5 users.

As to this guy saying he had issues in side scrolling in Super Metroid on Snes TYL, that is because you have speed hacks on for graphics. This emulator is great and will only get better. Before people complain about how slow games are they should check their settings because it is usually their own fault.

i even had a 333 mhz pc which emulated n64 properly...
it's not about 'can they' or even 'will they' its simply 'how long will it take' ... the snes emu's can play supermario rpg at near full speed already, just give them some time... it's a process of dimishing returns.

Alot of people got their PSP that already loaded with 2.0+ version firmware!

Anyway, if someone is interested in homebrew it would be logical to make sure that the one you're buying is where you want it. There's a way to tell from the box codes.
If nothing else, you could buy used.

What the hell is this? Why do we let 10yr olds comment?
Both of the guys that amde these probably have 2.6, just are too ashamed to tell anyone

While it may seem like the PSP has enough power to properly emulate an SNES by the numbers, keep in mind that you aren't the ones designing this emulator. Yoyo and laxer both give their all into this program and still can't get it to work like you SAY you want it to work. So believe me, it's much easier said than done.
I'd also like to note that this is a very worthy delay. I was in yoyofr's forums the other day and noticed a thread asking for a few beta testers. The thread was closed within a few days due to overwhelming response (I'm sure they only needed a handful anyway), and those people probably identified the issues with different games that they are working on at this very point in time. Had they not had the forethought to select some mature, level-headed beta testers, you would have been coming across these issues only when .4 was finally released, therefore dulling your experience.
Now aren't you happy that Yoyo and Laxer go out of their way to make our free SNES gaming experience that much better?
Keep up the good work guys, you are the sole reason I refuse to upgrade my PSP to play new games. =)

Your PC at 100 Mhz running a Snes at full speed ?
I dont think so...
ZSnes IS FULLY WRITTEN IN ASSEMBLY and I bet it is not running game like StarFox at 100% speed.
There is no WAY, even normal games.
I would say a full speed snes emu like ZSnes would need at least 300 or 350 Mhz to run smoothly on any game WITHOUT emulated cartridge chipset (SuperFX, DSP-1/2 etc...) (60 fps, fs 0)
So for the guys that "think it is piece of cake and psp can do it far easily"
I would suggest then to take the code of the 0.2c (Yes available on yoyo site), and then collaborate to help us.
I have plenty of tasks for you if you are up to it.
My 2 cents,
Laxer3A
