Smsplus12-1

Chris Swindle has just updated his port of SMSPlus v1.2, a SMS / Game Gear emulator. This time, he has implemented WiFi AdHoc function for multiplayer!! Here is what he had to say:

You can now play multiplayer games using the wifi adhoc option, here are the details of the steps that you need to take to play:

1 - Load up an SMS ROM on both PSP's
2 - Press select to go to the menu
3 - Enable Adhoc on both PSP's
4 - A screen will come up with the machines available
5 - Select a game to play from one of the PSP's (this will be the client)
6 - On the server agree to accept the connection from the client
7 - Wait for the rom to be sent to the client PSP (this should take a few seconds, occasionally it does not send it and you need to quit out of SMSPlus and start again)

Once this is done the PSP should send the ROM from the server to the client and then start sending the controls to each PSP, if you start a multiplayer game you should find that player 1 is controlled by the server and player 2 is controlled by the client.

If one user presses select during multiplayer, both users must press triangle to return to the game.

Thanks go to Mike for letting me borrow his PSP for the last couple of weeks to sort out adhoc support.

NOTE: Do not load another ROM without stopping wifi play, otherwise the machines will be out of sync
NOTE: All of the adhoc code was determined by patching Lumines to save to file all of the parameters and return codes.

Menu
--------
You can get to the menu pressing select, here are the options available:

Load ROM - Load a new ROM cartridge (DO NOT USE THIS IN AN ADHOC GAME)
Load Game - Load a save game state
Save Game - Save a game state
Screen Mode - Press select to change between 4:3 ratio and fullscreen
Adhoc Wifi - Enables or disables wifi

In the menu you can quit back to the game using the triangle button, X is used to select an option, O is used to cancel (only really used in wifi).

Source Released
-----------------------
Included in the ZIP file are the source files for the PSP port of SMSPlus, the code specific to the port is all in the psp directory.

You can get it in our PSP Download section [here]

Thanks for the update and the email! To my knowledge, this is the first emulator that implemented WiFi multiplayer function. Cheers! =D

P.S. Today is the birthday of the PSP, so much good news are coming up. What a day! XD

YES!!!! This is awesome. THE best thing you added was the save and load option. Now everyone can beat their games.

There's just one thing I'd like to mention. In the last version or two of this the sound was really loud and clear. Yet now in this version the sound has gone down. Each time I used your program it's been on maxiumum volume. This might be a problem on my side but I just wanted to let you know about it.

Again; AWESOME PROGRAM!!!

Gee whizz!

Mr Swindle, if you're reading this, thank you very much for a very well received release.

I don't know anyone else close to me with a homebrewed PSP, so I can't test the ad-hocness. In your to-do list from the previous release, I was looking forward to the inclusion of the new features, but I never expected them to be included so soon.

I may finally be able to complete Alex Kidd in Miracle World now, after 15 years of torture :)

Thanks again. It's especially appreciated because the scene seems to be losing its momentum.

Damn! Already worked Ad-Hoc into an emulator? That's a work of art. Let's implement that into other EMUS.

Glad to hear all the responses. I have had save and load game working for a while, but as I had the chance to borrow a friends PSP for a while I decided to try for adhoc support before releasing a new version.

Creativethinker , I changed the sound as I had people complaining about it when it was on loud, as I had multiplied the sound to get it to a decent level. I was planning on having an option to change this, but that was very low on list of things that I wanted to do for this release.

Hmm..I didn't know other versions of this had a save and load option. I'm pretty sure I tested out every button. I do admit that I didn't look at the read me files.

I think that if those people that were complaining were smart then they might just turn the volume down on the psp through the volume buttons (+ and -). There's no need to have you do more work on lowering the volume if other people want a higher volume (like me :). Those people can even mute the psp if they want to.

Also, now that I've tried some other games it seems that more complicated games like road rash have problems with the refresh rate of the latest version. Yet with other versions it was nice and smooth.

I also wanted to add that for the first time with the new version it's crashed twice so far after playing for a few minutes. There might be some bugs somewhere.

Anyhow keep up the good work
