PSPVecX v1.51 - Vectrex emulator for the PSP |
Ó
Samstag from our forums has released a new version of one of his older homebrew projects today - PSPVecX. PSPVecX is a Vectrex emulator for the PSP which was originally released all the way back in December 2005. If you have never heard of a Vectrex before or need a little hint to remember the 2D black-and-white greatness that was in the original Vectrex, here's a little reminder. The Vectrex was a home console released in 1982 that included a vertically oriented vector monitor producing some reasonably good graphics for the time.
This new release doesn't have a big list of new features, but is a newer, more stable release by Samstag that supports a few games. Here's what Samstag said: " I haven't touched it in several months and I don't see myself having time to pick it up again anytime soon so I'm going to release the most recent stable version along with the source. It's hard-coded to play just a short list of test games."
If you haven't played the original Vectrex or just want a piece of retro gaming fun, then give this one a go!

I have 2.6
Can someone make a compatibility list? And why not release the source so someone else can work on the project as well? I would love having another system on my PSP. :)
I must say that after playing with this emulator for about 3 hours that it is simply wonderful. The package comes with all the roms the company who made the system said were basically free...though for some reason the menu for the emulator does not include all the roms it comes with on its menu. If you rename a rom and overlay (in PNG format, 96dpi, 24bit color) to one of the ones the menu normally accesses, it will play the rom you have renamed. So far I have not found a rom that wont work with it, but I am guessing that roms with more than 1 part will not fully work as none of the menu roms has more than 1 bin file. Two tiny flaws with the program are to exit a rom you press select. But to exit the program you also press select, and often the PSP thinks you pressed it twice when you only ment to quit a rom. The other flaw being that the buttons on the overlays provided, do not sync up with the PSP's keys (thought they are in the Sony format). There is also no readme file for the emulator. To enter a game, press X, then press X again the begin. Some games call this the AIM button. TY so much for releasing this new version of the emulator. Please release a new one sometime soon with a system to add to the rom menu if you can.
Whomp - The source is included in the zip, lets hope some other talented dev will pick this up. Kristie - Excellent post. It works fine with Eloader under FW2.0 (as did the original).
