PSPVBA v1.0.2 - MAJOR Speed Improvement!

PSPVBA

I know you've all been expecting it, so here's the v1.0.2 update of Zx-81's PSPVBA GameBoy Advance emulator for the PSP. Zx's releases are almost as consistent as QJ's coverage on the latest PSP homebrew news! This major update comes just 3 days after the initial release of this VirtualBoyAdvance port for the PSP.

PSPVBA still features all that you would expect for a Zx release including sound and savegame support; as well as customizable key mapping and the ability to take screenshots. The sound support in this version is also a little jumpy, and is based on the work of psp298.

This update improves the speed of emulated Roms dramatically, which you will definitely notice. Along with this faster emulation speed comes much better sound quality due to Zx rewriting the code for sound support, new smoother render modes; Zip file support for those short on memory stick space, PNG screenshots instead of bitmaps and *gasp* many bug fixes.

As you can see, the list of improvements for this release is absolutely huge! This list basically places PSPVBA on the top of the GBA emulator tree, for having the most features and for speed. Why are you wasting time? Zx-81 didn't whilst making this - download now!

sonic advance is worse, sometimes sonic dissapears altogether.

Yes, Im pretty sure that he understands that his gba isnt running at full speed, Honestly, it doesent take a genius. And im pretty sure he understands that it is a priority. And im pretty sure that was more of being an a$$ then giving feedback.

and How about this

Ill give you some honest feeback

Instead of being an ass to people, especially people who are well respected like zx-81 mayve give them some helpfull ,usefull comments. Maybe you should appreciate the fact that there are devs for the psp. Maybe, you should understand that your not the backbone of this community, I dont think many people would care if you left, but if Zx left it would be big. I honestly think people like you should not be welcome here at qj.net

"how the hell is he supposed to know whats wrong with it if we dont give him honest feedback?" and honeslty that is one lame excuse. No wait, your right, he probably doesent understand that there is one emulator that may be better(havent tested both enough to know) and you telling him that is gonna do what?

thanks for making comments, but no thanks, I will read someone elses (unless you make urs better than ace`s)

first off it works on 2.6 all you have to do is install it just like you would any other homebrew on this system as for the fps i cant be sure because i dont see an option that will display the fps but i can tell you this, you can def.stand the speed that it is at, at about skipping mabee 4fps then it is pretty close to real speed however i dont realy notice a diferance in the sound just a bit more faster and true sound and this emulator is easily the best there is hands down! very good work zx-81

This forum is for praise development ideas, and constructive criticism, the operative word being โ€˜constructiveโ€™. Duh, the speed is not up to par and the sound needs serious improvement โ€“ deal with development issues, not the obvious! You think Zx came this far and is sitting at home not realizing that there are speed and sound issues? The source code is included โ€“ fix it yourself if you donโ€™t like what heโ€™s done. You ungrateful morons really p1ss me off! Thank you Zx and I look forward to your next update.

You said this emu is slow, and PSPGBA is better etc ... PSPGBA doesn't work on 2.5 or 2.6 FW, i develop homebrew that works on ALL FW, so please compare what can be campared.

You said on this game it's slow, on this one also etc ... But i have to say that on many other games i've tried the speed is good enough for me ;) ..

Anyway, i can't run PSPGBA on my PSP so i can't see the speed difference between the two version, and i'm NOT in competition with PSP298, Slasher and others good coders ;) ..

The problem is the speed. If the sound is crappy, it's also due to the speed ... Telling me it doesn't run full speed on this game, this one, and this other one doesn't help me in any manner ;) ...

# some bugs to report...Guest 2006-06-29 04:17
I'll skip on the obvious stuff like speed and sound.

In game saves are not stored in it's folder, save slots work, but for games like sonic that have auto save doesn't get saved unless you manualy save it via pspvba save slot.

Rendering needs a smooth layout when in full or max

not all roms will load [I believe this is because of the rom itself (perhaps bad dumps), but not sure].

when switching back and forth between main screen and rom or kbd screens, they get muddled together (which can be easily fixed via going back to the game)

settings save work and kbd save works. Not sure how the screen shot feature works exactly, but it does work.

so far no more bugs to report....

Thank you [Zx] for the remarkable job getting the performance of the [pspvba] this far. The homebrew community is looking forward to your continued support.

Maybe the dump wasn't good or the size is too big. On the older GBA emulators the Pokemon Emerald didn't work because of its size (16+ MB) . Usually the smaller sized games work better, faster, and more reliable. Anyways try some smaller games and see if they work.

GREAT JOB Zx-81 Keep it up!!!

# one more bug.....Guest 2006-06-29 09:21
this one actually bothers me more than the speed issue for some reason, anyway:

When assigning keys to the joystick settings under [Keyboard] (where they are default [unassigned]), it seems the [Swap analog/curser] funtion over rides the keyboard settings so that, even though keys are assigned to both d-pad and analog, during gameplay you can only use one or the other.

Again, thank you for your hardwork towards the homebrew community.

Good job on this one zx-81 im sure we will have a full speed gba emu in no time!

The only feedback i have would be to make the screen smoother an higher resulotion (fit, max) but i think someone as already mention that.

So keep up the good work on this emu!!

I tested this yesterday with a few games. MMBN series works, but games like KHCoM is still a kur-plunk!.

But anyways. About the speed. I like. It's still below average but I'd say...mmm...oh about 40% close to real time but it's seriously getting there. I'm glad I downgraded my 2.00 back down 1.50 a couple weeks back. I think I'll keep it there for a while too :). Devhook + homebrew scene coming back...sweet

Your work is appreciated very much!

Some comments:

Can the screen be stretched to the top and bottom? I've tried the "fit" setting, which is a good size, but doesn't take advantage of the screen's total width. Or would that mess up the correct aspect ratio? RIN had some settings that made it possible to stretch the image to the top and bottom.

Can you make the Start & Select buttons configurable? I would like to be able to change them back to their original function and set the VBA menu to the D-pad or the Triangle or Circle buttons.

Thanks again! Can't wait for the updates!

"Zx's releases are almost as consistent as QJ's coverage on the latest PSP homebrew news! "

QT.net has to inbed ads for themselves in articles? Pathetic.

I can't fit the image, it's to preserve the aspect ratio ;) ... For the start key, it will be done in the next release (but select key would stay to enter the emulator menu).

maybe he can make it as fast as the real GBA,If each one who downloads the end product pays through paypal 20 bucks, his motivation to rev it up would increase. come on money talks BS walks.
