PSPVBA v1.0.2 - MAJOR Speed Improvement! |
Listed in: Homebrew Emulators, Emulators Tags: psp homebrew emulators, PSPVBA
Ó

I know you've all been expecting it, so here's the v1.0.2 update of Zx-81's PSPVBA GameBoy Advance emulator for the PSP. Zx's releases are almost as consistent as QJ's coverage on the latest PSP homebrew news! This major update comes just 3 days after the initial release of this VirtualBoyAdvance port for the PSP.
PSPVBA still features all that you would expect for a Zx release including sound and savegame support; as well as customizable key mapping and the ability to take screenshots. The sound support in this version is also a little jumpy, and is based on the work of psp298.
This update improves the speed of emulated Roms dramatically, which you will definitely notice. Along with this faster emulation speed comes much better sound quality due to Zx rewriting the code for sound support, new smoother render modes; Zip file support for those short on memory stick space, PNG screenshots instead of bitmaps and *gasp* many bug fixes.
As you can see, the list of improvements for this release is absolutely huge! This list basically places PSPVBA on the top of the GBA emulator tree, for having the most features and for speed. Why are you wasting time? Zx-81 didn't whilst making this - download now!

I was playing Gt advance 3 pro concept racing, its really slow and the sound is all static and really *****
sonic advance is worse, sometimes sonic dissapears altogether.
advance wars 2 is really slow and sound is not as bad as the others
all the games are bad even with it at 333 mhz and no sound on the smallest screen
its more of a thanks, but no thanks emulator.
thanks for making an emulator, but no thanks, I will use something else (unless you make it better than pspgba)

and How about this
Ill give you some honest feeback
Instead of being an ass to people, especially people who are well respected like zx-81 mayve give them some helpfull ,usefull comments. Maybe you should appreciate the fact that there are devs for the psp. Maybe, you should understand that your not the backbone of this community, I dont think many people would care if you left, but if Zx left it would be big. I honestly think people like you should not be welcome here at qj.net
"how the hell is he supposed to know whats wrong with it if we dont give him honest feedback?" and honeslty that is one lame excuse. No wait, your right, he probably doesent understand that there is one emulator that may be better(havent tested both enough to know) and you telling him that is gonna do what?
thanks for making comments, but no thanks, I will read someone elses (unless you make urs better than ace`s)

next time i wont say a word, and be happy with garbage.
if people dont know whats good/bad with something, they will never know what to do to make it better, hence my feedback which im sure a lot of people might have taken offence to it, but it can also be used as constructive criticism.

and please, be mature here. even if what capag-whatever his name is did sound a bit...mean...he's entitled to his own opinion. that's fine. and all those other people who are attacking capag-whatever need to understand that he's just voicing his own opinion, but next time capagasfij293h could you be a bit more polite?

This is the Guy Who Made the GBA Emulator "VBA" for the PC.
I guess he seemed interested in making the emulator for the PSP. this guy is like an perfectionist... lol

Nice, but I'll be hoping for more speed ^^

This looks promising tho. I was wondering what happened to the GBA emulators out there seeing the progress made with the n64 emulators.
Good job and keep it up! I'll be waiting patiently for the next release.

You said on this game it's slow, on this one also etc ... But i have to say that on many other games i've tried the speed is good enough for me ;) ..
Anyway, i can't run PSPGBA on my PSP so i can't see the speed difference between the two version, and i'm NOT in competition with PSP298, Slasher and others good coders ;) ..

Nice work again ZX - especially only three days after the initial release. High hopes for this one in future.

In game saves are not stored in it's folder, save slots work, but for games like sonic that have auto save doesn't get saved unless you manualy save it via pspvba save slot.
Rendering needs a smooth layout when in full or max
not all roms will load [I believe this is because of the rom itself (perhaps bad dumps), but not sure].
when switching back and forth between main screen and rom or kbd screens, they get muddled together (which can be easily fixed via going back to the game)
settings save work and kbd save works. Not sure how the screen shot feature works exactly, but it does work.
so far no more bugs to report....
Thank you [Zx] for the remarkable job getting the performance of the [pspvba] this far. The homebrew community is looking forward to your continued support.

this game is a must take with you game.

And like many others, I am looking forward to a gba emu, so I would be honored to help in anyway possible.

When assigning keys to the joystick settings under [Keyboard] (where they are default [unassigned]), it seems the [Swap analog/curser] funtion over rides the keyboard settings so that, even though keys are assigned to both d-pad and analog, during gameplay you can only use one or the other.
Again, thank you for your hardwork towards the homebrew community.

The only feedback i have would be to make the screen smoother an higher resulotion (fit, max) but i think someone as already mention that.
So keep up the good work on this emu!!
Reply
But anyways. About the speed. I like. It's still below average but I'd say...mmm...oh about 40% close to real time but it's seriously getting there. I'm glad I downgraded my 2.00 back down 1.50 a couple weeks back. I think I'll keep it there for a while too :). Devhook + homebrew scene coming back...sweet

Some comments:
Can the screen be stretched to the top and bottom? I've tried the "fit" setting, which is a good size, but doesn't take advantage of the screen's total width. Or would that mess up the correct aspect ratio? RIN had some settings that made it possible to stretch the image to the top and bottom.
Can you make the Start & Select buttons configurable? I would like to be able to change them back to their original function and set the VBA menu to the D-pad or the Triangle or Circle buttons.
Thanks again! Can't wait for the updates!
