PSPVBA: GameBoy Advance Emulator Updated to v1.2.4 |
Ó
We all had a scare when word broke out that emulation machine zx-81 is giving up on making improvements to his GBA emulator, PSPVBA. zx-81 quickly doused that rumor releasing v1.2.3 saying that "Who said i give up? I never give up when i got ideas to make things going better." If there's one thing he's proven, other than being a very talented coder, it's that he is no quitter; especially with the release of his emu now booted to v1.2.4.
According to him, this release is "a bit faster compared to v1.2.3 (up to 3% on v-rally 3)". What's more, the version is now also compatible to 2.x firmwares. Here's a list of what's new with v1.2.4:
- Improve the code of the graphic stuff (up to 3% faster)
- Improve the code of the ARM emulator (faster)
- Add BIOS file support (see the README)
- Add option to adjust the sound quality
- Add option to delete files (in the file selector)
- Bug fix in the save settings code
- Merge the code for 1.5FW and 2.xFW
zx-81 also recognizes that there has been a lot of new PSP owners flocking the community, so he's included a very detailed instruction of how to use his program in the readme inside the file. Another reminder though, he says that "this package is under GPL Copyright, read COPYING file for more information about it." With that cleared, we here at the realms of QJ salute zx-81 for a job well done!

100% speed would be nice
I can't wait until I can play games at full speed. And I am happy to post first and say thank you to zx-81 so we don't get another ...uh, person, who is thrill simply being the first post.
can it run pokemon saphir/ruby or firered/leafgreen?
when you say 100 % speed would be nice , then you wont know anything who hard it is to make the thing faster . how ever nice job zx keep it up
I just wanted to say keep up the good work zx!
Stop setting unrealistic expectations. Even 30FPS on a reasonable frameskip with audio is a stretch, let alone 100%. zx-81 is a god for getting it this far already, but you all have to understand, there's no way he can tweak the code and suddenly up the speed by 70%.

It´s hard, but it can be done. If zx-81 keeps working like this, we will have full speed soon! thank´s zx-81
Pokemon Leaf Green shall be EVEN MORE fun. Mwhahahahaha etc.
there is a way to get full speed, by writing a dynamic recompiler, but that takes months and is extreamly hard work
superrrrr!!!!! i wish i can code like you guys..!
All these little % increases in speed will add up fast! We'll have a very fast gba emulator in no time!!! WE LOVE YOU zx-81!!!!
I suggest working on a Sega Saturn emu :O :O :O
THANKS ZX-81!
fire red is where its at! =P Great work ZX! Keep it up!
It's awesome to se such a commited programmer, thinking in ways to improve the emulator, and GBA it's a great handheld. Keep it like that Zx-81 I'm looking foward to see it running at almost full speed at least
after such a long news drought (see all the other articles on this page) i'm happy to see this news and i'm happy to see that the emu is still progressing
The truth is, while some are stuck with TA-082's, the majority of PSP homebrewers are 1.5 users, so you should go back to using kernel and get even more speed. However, nice job ZX.
zx-81, you are a god keep up the good work.
What is the average fps of most games?
can't wait!! great work ZX ^^!! xD
unless he's going to build the engine from the ground up to use 100% of psp's resorces, he might as well stop working on it. psp2 coming out in 2011. Has 3.2 GHz and 512 MB of ram. That's where the emulator maddness will be @.
What does the GBA bios do? Does it increase performance having it? The readme says nothing about what it does.
...and people wonder why sony's against the hacker union...great
I'd like to express some gratitude to zx81 - thanks alot.
Really glad he added BIOS support. The metroid games(well the sound part which isnt useful right now anyways) doesnt work right without the BIOS. Bravo ZX, Keep up the good work.
no as zx-81 said in the forums having the bios decreases the speed a bit, but he'll improve it so that having the bios speeds up the emulation...
1st po.... ***** !!!
All I want to know is why Zx has gone back to making this emulator 2.x compatible as opposed to keeping seperate versions for 2.x and 1.5. It does not make sense considering that the majority would have downgraded by now. There is no substitute for kernel mode and being able to use the Media Engine. If he is going to only be releasing the emulator in User Mode from now on you guys might as well forget getting anything remotely close to playable speeds.
dude! zx! your the best!!!!! man! I can probably imagine the day where we can OVERSPEED the emulator and fast forward!
what is this and can it really get it near full speed?????? ZX-81 if your reading is this true???
Thank you!! so much for taking the time to do this. For this we salute you.
yeah i'd like to know about this dynemic recompiler i searched on the internet and someone else said it could get it at full speed to
I noticed a good increase while testing out MMBN6Gregar so that's a good thing to know. KHCoM is still a no go. I'm guessing until regular roms are at like 50-70% or something...KHCoM would work at like 1-20%.
If only there was a way to use assembly code on the psp... Emulation would've been alot faster anyways GREAT job once again ZX.
i dont think this emulator can work at 100%..... because psp isnt strong enought to play gba games..... psp need a faster CPU. even ps2 cant play GBA, but xbox do because xbox has stronger system.
i just want battle network to run at playable speeds, then i'll be happy
FIRST POST WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
have a look at this ? DOWNGRADE 2.7 2.71 ?? dunno if its real.. check it out ! http://homebrew271.googlepages.com/downloads
must... play... fire... emblem..
Read strmnrm`s blog he is working on one for his N64 emu thats why the emu is so fast too.
I like that he is releasing both, it is easier than running the 1.5 through the PSPbrew everytime so I can play it on my 1.0 FW. Good work, keep it up. Megaman Zero series FTW!!!! FFTA FTW!!!
FIRST POST
@all: thx Zx
another good update like always.....keep on good work !!! 2.00 to 2.60 users... What are you still doing on those firmwares ??? DOWNGRADE !!
This guy zx-81 is so good hes nvr gonna stop until he gets 100%`WATCH!
great work zx, but what does ftw mean? i know what wtf means? is it similar? i see it all over, but i dont know what it means?
If someone froze me in time for one year.....the GBA emu updates will still be going and probably wont reach its full potential.......Nah, what the heck, nice work since at least you are trying!
nice work!! thanks!
For the win! sheesh. lol is it like wtf? F- the what? nice
WoooooooW.... More 2fps!!!! wooooow LoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
u people have no life
Thanks for not giving up on us!!! :)
does that include 2.80 by ne chance?
Zx isn`t a god, God is God. He`s a good coder and thats it. Dumbasses... Now then. Awesome job Zx, keep up the good work and I anticipate your next builds!
I have been checking qj constantly for another update. I am always excited to hear another update even if it is just a little faster. All these small % numbers start to add up. I might download this to try it. Does anyone notice a weird sound problem in Pokemon Ruby? The sound is all garbled. But it is a good emulator. GTA: Advance is quite slow but will eventually be playable (i hope), and that is one game that pushed the hardware of the GBA.
24. » pointless... unless he's going to build the engine from the ground up to use 100% of psp's resorces, he might as well stop working on it. psp2 coming out in 2011. (Unregistered), at Aug 03, 2006 at 02:03PM
Umm no, if you really worked for sony then you would know that sony will never ever ever ever support homebrew on their machine. That would be too much similar to what customers want. The PSP2 will be so highly secured that it will probably be just a worthless machine for playing $50 (or higher) games and listening to some movies or mp3's. I hope the GP2x developers' company (Gamepark Holdings?) increases so that they can afford more marketing and selling the product at walmart. I know it's just a hopeless dream. Also, by 2011, companies will be able to make 3.2 Ghz and 512 MB ultra-mobile pc's for a good price (if they can fix the battery life shortness). Current UMPC's are about twice the size of PSP and almost as powerful as older desktop systems.
Your slowing getting it up to speed. Keep up the good work! :)
this thing is only a couple frames faster than the origalal GBA release.
all I know is that I see the GBA going faster, dunno maybe it'll stop sometime, but really kernel mode plz, because you will not get full speed at user mode, and most ppl have 1.5 and I think if you really want to have GBA on 2.xx FW you should finish the 1.5 first then focus on 2.xx it'l be much easier if possible on user mode, if I recall even Snes is slow on user mode.
do you *****ers know the amount of work that goes into emu's i get really sick of this wow this emu is slow as hell, and only a of frame rates quicker, being 11-18 means you are a complete bastard i guess, with little to no idea of how these things work
what he said above is true coding is very hard, I still haven't taken up coding I still need to finish 2 years before I can study that with ppl that actually know, I tried to do it alone and I know a few things but to know how to make an emulator is millions of miles away from the little almost nothing I know of coding, it's no childs play even for a great coder it needs a lot of work.
And to think when I first got my GBA imagine if someone told me I would be playing PS2 standard games on a handheld.
@62: This version use the kernel mode on 1.5, and user mode for 2.x ;) ... There are "two in one" :P @all: thx Zx
sweet, keep up the good work!
it is damn funny to see ppl claiming their post is the first and ended up not the first post... those posts look damn stupid
HOW IN THE HELL DID I GET THE FIRST POST ITS UNBELEIVABLE

I remember the first time I downloaded a PSP GBA emulator...damn it was slow compared to this, keep up the awesome updates!
Pokemon!!!! hehe. Speed increase over the updates have been great. Your almost there! Keep up the great work!
will they ever have an emulator for this i got so excited 2 find an emu. that worked with 2.x firmwares but i found only 2.x to 2.6 firmwares only works ]:
