PSP2600: Atari 2600 emulator for PSP v1.1.4 (minor update) |
Ó
Heads up to all the fans of Zx-81's Atari 2600 PSP emulator, PSP2600. A minor update has been dropped in the form of v1.1.4, but it being "minor" doesn't mean it won't be carrying as much coolness as possible. For one, a new thumbnail image is now displayed in the file requester while selecting any file with the same name of a previously saved game. Then, there's also that tweak in the emulator menu that you can go directly to keyboard and settings menu using the L-trigger key. The IR keyboard issue with fw >=3.80 for FAT PSP has been fixed as well.
Anyhow, in case you need some brushing up on emulator history, PSP2600 is a PSP port of Stella v2.2, originally written by Bradford Mott. Stella is recognized to be one of the best Atari 2600 emulators and has run on different systems like Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS/X, WinCE, OS/2 and GP2X.
PSP2600 is based on the work of Aenea, who first ported Stella to the PSP, and is developed on Linux for Firmwares 3.x-m33, 4.x-m33 and 1.5.
Everything else you need to know (ie. installation procedures) are in the readme, so be sure to check that out.

Yet we have no one attempting to make a full speed SNES emulator. There's the fact that most games do run full speed on the SNES emulator, but I want all games running full speed.
Or how about a good working MAME emulator. The latest MAME emulator couldn't handle a game like Rastan full speed. That's sad, considering Rastan isn't a very big graphical powerhouse, but it's the best arcade game in my opinion, right next to Rainbow Islands and Bubble Bobble, and I want it playable in good 60fps quality on my PSP.
But no. We have everyone repeatedly releasing new updates to the Atari 2600. I'll admit that it was good back in the day, and I even enjoy a few games on it now, but the fact that the Atari 2600 already runs full speed on the PSP and the system carries a fraction of what you can find worth playing on other more worthy systems. Just drop recreating another useless emulator that goes along with the 900 something of them that already run full speed.
Hi,
afaik there is only one stella port to psp, so why do you speak about "recreating another useless emulator" ? here are minor changes and improvements of an existing emu port ...
i can read in your comment "i want ..." here, and "i want ..." there. i suggest you to do it yourself instead of trying to give orders to coders ;)
Zx
I use this emulator, along with all off your other retro emulators, and would just like to say thanks for all the work Zx!
Kupmongoli, if you want good portable MAME you really only have one option - GP2X. I have both an f200 and PSP slim and when it comes to emulators , there's really no comparison... everything "for the most part" is better on the GP2x.
1. all my SNES games run fullspeed... Seems like someone is not up to date on their releases
2. ZX is a coding powerhouse.. you probably saw his emulators for the 7800 and 5200 several times and their updates so you just THINK that there are hundreds of atari emulators out there when theres really only 1
