PlayStation Portable - PSP MAME4ALL v4.7r2 Hires - Image 1 When talking about Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, or MAME, we think retro coin-op video games. Well, we're all going to get more arcade goodness - minus the quarters - in TTYman's new PSP MAME4ALL release.

The PSP homebrew developer has released version 4.7r2 Hires, which features a couple of fixes from version 4.7 and then some. PSP MAME4ALL by TTYman is actually based on the GP2X releases by Franxis and supports PSP Hires (480x272), overclocking (133 to 333MHz), among other things. Here's the full list of features from TTYman's blog post:
  • Based on latest GP2X MAME4All releases v4.7;
  • 480×272 full PSP Hires Support, now games with >320 orizz. and >240 vert. pixels are fully playable (Loderun, Galaga etc.);
  • Overclock support, from 133 to 333 MHz;
  • Fixed, Fixed Divided by 2, Software Scaled and Software Full Screen Stretched resolutions (all maximum 480×272);
  • Frameskip as GP2X version (fixed 0-5, auto 1-5);
  • Vsync on/off;
  • Save configuration support, default and per game;
  • Autocentering fix for all resolutions;
  • Optimized compiled code as derived from GP2X version, but for PSP cpu (fastest graphics core!);
  • Stripped & Packed executable, only 2.1MB;
  • Original graphics theme from Gold edition;
  • Music in menu (filename music.psp in data folder), in these supported formats: .MOD .S3M, .IT, .XM and .OGG;
  • Added, as bonus, 1st classified OldSkool at Assembly 2007 Music Competition (Commodore 64 based), in .OGG format;
  • Graphic theme 480×272 BMP skins support, both pspmenu480.bmp and pspsplash480.bmp in folder skins
Here are the changes from the last version, also from TTYman's post:
  • 133 MHz in menu and while paused, for battery saving;
  • VSync really works now;
  • Corrected build configuration and Makefile, so sounds in various games are now back;
  • Correct fixed, div2, sw scaled and sw stretched resolutions, with autocentering
A couple of known issues haven't been ironed out in time for this release but we can be sure that TTYman will stomp them out in the near future: version 4.7r2 slows down with general audio enabled, plus it doesn't have rotate support.

Anyway, check out the emulator by downloading it below. Be sure to go over the readme files included in the zipped file for more information about PSP MAME4ALL. Enjoy!

» Working Games?

It would be really great to have a list of working games. 2 very old school games I want to play are Kick, and Crazy Climber. Not great games by todays standards but they take be back to the days of placing my quarters on edge of the screen waiting for my turn to play. They both are also fun to play, an element missing from many modern games. Hey I taught myself how to ride a unicycle because of Kick.

Yeah. That's what an Emulator Does.

» Captian Obvious

The previous MAME emulators didn't run any rom's after 85... meaning that they wouldn't play the Simpson's ROM or anything from the 90's for that matter.

Thanx for NOTHING

» This is kewl

I see some improvement in Frogger as far as sound goes, its a little better and still runs smooth

Alien Syndrome no longer works, it worked on the last release of this but not it says failed, nto sure if it needs another set of roms

Zaxxon still plays really good but still no sound

Xevious sound is a little better and plays smooth

Aerofighters plays and sounds good but the sound is so low, not sure if that can be fixed..

Ms Pacman still locks up after you insert credits and try to start game

Missile Command on the last release sounded and played prefect, the sound is now much worse

» Some Games

Does anyone have a working copy of pac/Ms PacMan? Every rom I have either will not load or runs at 1000x regular speed? Q-Bert worked on the older Mame4All, now loads but controllers do not work - is there any way to re-map tron controls - great game but hard to play as moving l/r changes shooting arm also...I love MAME - it is such a welcome surprise to see it is being worked on again - please keep up the good work! Thank you!

» Home Button HELP!!!

The home button no longer brings-up the main menu. Please fix!

by Firefly - 2007-09-09 11:22
» Home

I can also confirm the Home button no longer goes back to the main menu, you have to manually power off and on to get out of the games. This was obviously an oversight.

I've noticed in general that the sound on this EMU is poor, I don't know why that's the case?

As for game compatibility, if people have a look online you should see a MAME GP2X torrent (bit torrent) that's about 1 gig in size. It should contain all compatible roms with this EMU release in one pack.

Please enable a screen centering option (as the 'normal' screen mode aligns to the top of the screen, centred would be better.

Please enable the use of the analogue nub for control. I find the DPad to be unwieldy at times.

There's also some video sync issues - some games are still absolutely screaming along, especially when you bump up the CPU clock speeds.

But that all said, MAME in development for the PSP is something to warrant cheering and support, it's really the last great bastion on the PSP.

Keep up the good work!!!

I am not having probs with the buttons once I figured them out, don't know why they changed them. I am not sure how more compatible this version is to be honest

missile command worked flawlessly on the last release.

Frogger shows some sound improvement. This is fine by me as long as they working on this. HAIL MAME!
