FBA4PSP - Image 1

Homebrew dev lbicelyne has apparently released a new version of FBA4PSP a couple of days ago. Sorry if you've been waiting for updates on this FinalBurn Alpha emulator. I only saw it today.

Anyway this release is FBA4PSP beta preV12p3. ARM7 has been added in this release and Knights of Valor 2 works now. Here are some notes form the dev:
  • Game saving is not supported
  • Usage:
    • 1. It only supports kov2.zip and kov2106.zip
    • 2. If there is sango2.rom in your zip file, please rename to kov2_v100_hongkong.asic

This is a *classic* case of my frustration with the PSP Dev scene.

Here you have a potential hit on your hands. Besides the N64 EMU people are slobbering over, MAME still remains largely untouched on the whole on the PSP platform and I think presents a coding challenge far less complex than the N64 project.

Now in this case, Final Burn is an excellent emulator on the PC platform with a lot of compatibility and functionality, so it would be amazing to see this ported properly to the PSP.

But alas, the Dev here is guilty of leaping before learning to walk. With minimal FPS and game compatibility the dev is spending time implementing almost useless features into the program that serve very little function without addressing the core issues. It's like putting mag wheels on your hotrod without paying any attention to the missing engine in the car.

Fact is, developers need to take a step back on their projects and iron out the bugs and flaws in the core of their code before they try and do sommersaults to impress the community. What ends up happening time and again is they over extend themselves and leave projects that are half finished because they become frustrated and cannot finish what they start.

Concentrate on getting the FPS and compatibility at solid levels before implementing stupid ***** like wireless networking please!

Yeah, I'm rude in how I come across here but it's only because these considerations on development are just *****ing common sense and time and again I see over eager wanna-be's stumble and fall, *****ing up the brew scene for others in a vain attempt to get cheap acclaim from their peers.

at least is not another piece of useless hombrew "crapp" i mean "app" that does exactly the same shi.t the psp already can do, like a media player or some of the useless crapp i mean again "apps" that some "devs" are doing like organize shi-t on the psp and paint apps (yeah like if im going to do paint on my psp wtf!!!! or i need help to organize in my pc my memory card stuff or if i CARE what kind of theme do i have) so far psp tube is the only true app i use and really need that my PSP and my pc CANT DO, and i agree with you emulators that are the best homebrew apps on the psp are dead nowadays and nobody gives a sheep anymore for those so sad

It's not just about the type of brew being produced that's in question here, but the quality of what they present.

I'm all for emulation software on the PSP for sure - in fact I'd like to see more of it! - but it's disturbing to note how many 'starts' on software exist for the platform that haven't gone on to maturity.

That's why I said Final Burn could really be a big hit for this platform. Whilst the Capcom 1 + 2 EMUs currently represent the best of the arcade emulators on the platform, they still represent a narrow slice of the overall gaming content in that arena.

MAME is still very poorly emulated on the PSP so a solid effort at a arcade EMU with a more generic focus is not only welcome, but encouraged!

My frustration lies in the fact we have over 20 *****ing MAME EMU attempts on the platform already and not ONE of the *****ers are anywhere near the level of maturity as even the GPx2 version!!!!
