PSP developer FOL has released a new version of Amiga homebrew emulator PSPUAE. This release adds FAME/C functionality - that's just about it. Full changelog for PSPUAE v0.72 FAME/C Edition is as follows:
  • Added FAME/C CPU core (Credits to UAE4ALL team as thats where Ric ported it from originally).
Told you it was short. Not to say that it's anything to brush aside easily. I'm sure some of you guys have been waiting for this. And though that might be swell, FOL also issues quite an ultimatum about this release:

Im only releasing this, because people wanted it.

Be warned its unstable and can guru alot.

That said, it is faster.

Also old SAVESTATES are NOT compatible with this release.

Also, to get this to work with 1.50 you will have to convert the eboot yourself.

Please do not post regarding crashing issues with this release, as I have already pointed out its flaws. Unless someone wants to improve the FAME/C CPU core, im done with it.

Of course, a readme is meant to be read. Make sure that you do.

I love the PSP EMUs and the Amiga one is one that hasn't been fully converted to run 100% yet...

Extra functionality is always welcome, but not at the expense of stability.

I'll give it a try...

Once there's a fullspeed (with sound) Amiga emulator I'll probably delete everything else off my Memory Stick Pro Duo Alpha Ex Upper and sell all my UMDs. There will really be no need for anything else.

Until then, I cry.

Hence, why I avoided FAME/C. It may be faster but its very unstable. As far as I know the famec cpu source isnt going to be updated.

Seriously... it's no wonder FOL refuses to post news of his developments on this site. It's the same story everytime.... nothing but ungrateful complaints.

Did you guys even bother to read the post? there's no "extra functionality" with this release... it is a PURE SPEED UPDATE to keep moaners like you lot happy. I really dont think any of you appreciate the hard work that goes into improving the emulator. Yes, some stability has gone, but that only makes it as unstable as UAE4ALL, since this version now uses the same CPU core.

There were a lot less complaints when UAE4ALL was released than there always are with PSPUAE, yet PSPUAE continues to get updated time and time again for you lot.

Personally, i will stick with the slower and more compatible version, because as an Amiga user I seem to be able to make this thing work for me better than most PSP-users seem to manage. god knows why, since we're all using the same emulator, and i certainly dont find cause to moan like so many others.

I concur. I only use my PSP now for PSPUAE. I to want fullspeed and thats why I keep messing with PSPUAE, to gain more and more speed.

People will proberly disagree, but I think PSPUAE FAME C is faster than UAE4ALL. Simply cause pspuae is compiled on the old toolchain. New toolchain loses alot of speed.

Nice one FOL, it's great to see you (and the team?) still working on PSPUAE and bringing out releases. I hope you're all well

Will you stfu and stop sucking the dev's *****?

No one said it was bad, we're just looking for improvements in code is all.

Fact is, there's other, more complex platforms out there that have already been converted successfully and have close to full speed and stability on the PSP.

Yet some of the (arguably) better ones like Amiga and MAME still are struggling...

It's not that anyone here is ungrateful you presumptive *****stickle, but rather that we're all hoping and waiting to see our favourite platforms get to that level of gaming perfection we're all hoping to see.

And if you start babbling ***** about 'go do it yourself then' you can go ***** yourself.

Just giving it a try now with Turrican 2. Awesome work on the eboot sound and graphic though :D don't know if I prefer this or the Lotus 3 one.

and how mad. no display at all! Just the Amiga numbers and such in the corner.

Fixed after some tweaking. fantastic performance boost FOL. Keep it up! This is really great. Still a bit choppy and makes it unplayable but overall better than the other UAE.

Well, FAME C is not being updated. So thats all that can be done with it. Im hoping to go back to standard cpu core and use the ME (PSP CPU) for the sound.

Not sure when I will get time for that at the moment. I was hoping to get something out before Christmas, with improved sound.

wow, what a brilliantly inept answer. reduced to childish swearing and name-calling.

I happen to be actively aiding the developers myself, and am on the PSPUAE team , so no-offence if i consider myself considerably better-informed on the matter than you. There's no "sucking" here, i happen to give them a lot of bad news during the development process - they dont always like it, but they know why i do it.

The only "more complex platform" which has a faster emulator is the PS1, somewhat aided by the fact it's Sony developed, with documented info about all the function-calls and instructions. There is NO harder system than the Amiga to emulate, due to the large number of custom chips on the chipset. SNES, MegaDrive and other similar platforms do not have this kind of chipset to emulate.

Yes, we all want to see this emulator at full speed on everything, but comments such as your DO show a lack of understanding and a failure to appricate the difficulty of this task involved. The fact is, that used correctly and with a degree of intelligence this version especially can run quite a few games fullspeed.

I think horace misunderstood your post as being ungreatful.

I didnt see it as such, I came to the conclusion that, you were comparing it with PSP UAE4ALL which has no options / features.

no, i didnt misunderstand it, clearly FOL, you want to be cautiously polite. I cant see that the comparison could have been with UAE4ALL, because to call that full-speed (or anywhere near stable) would be far from correct.

Lets se... the began with a rather dubious "hmm" and continued;

"The Amiga one is one that hasn't been fully converted to run 100% yet"

hasnt been fully converted? I think this shows a complete lack of understanding of what goes into creating an emulator, especially one for a system this complex.

t doesnt help that the O.P. referred to the FAME/C core as 'functionality' which is equally inaccurate.

"more complex platforms out there that have already been converted successfully and have close to full speed and stability on the PSP" continues to show further failure of understanding. For one thing, the non-FAME/c PSPUAE 0.72 is incredibly stable (does that count as 'run 100%', since i've yet to find any OCS/ECS game that wont work on at least one setting) and that version too is able to run certain programs at full speed.

I also wont be threatened by pathetic name-calling by people who cant be bothered (or are able to) form a coherent argument.

That's good news! Turrican 1 and 2 and YoJoe both play but they get hit by slowdown during heavy moments. Especially when you use Turricans surround attack.

Now I've finally got hope that I'll be able to finally play Amiga games on my Amiga :)

Lower the CPU speed, the onscreen slowdown is normal. As the higher the cpu, the slower the chipset.
