PicoDrive-PSP - Image 1Homebrew developer notaz has ported PicoDrive to the PSP. Based on Dave's (fdave, finalburn) PicoDrive 0.30 for Pocket PC and Stephane Dallongeville's Gens, this application is an emulator for Sega Genesis/ Megadrive and Sega CD/ Mega CD games.

While the application lacks some of the "fancier" options such as dynarecs/asm cores, it can run most games at full speed without having to resort to using frameskip and uses hardware MP3 decoding via the audio codec library of the PSP. Since the emulator is still in its early phases of development, it still has some VDP quirks and may have a few glitches because of inaccurate timing and sync between the emulated chips.

More details on how to use this application can be found in the comprehensive documentation included with the emulator, so be sure to go over it before doing anything. That said, enjoy PicoDrive.

This now replaces the Slim build of DGEN that I used for so long. It's damn good.

I believe a "HOLY CRAP!" is in order. This is, in my opinion, the best PSP homebrew release all year.

Full speed on almost every Sega CD game I've tried so far. Genesis emulation is also significantly faster than in DGen.

which brings it down a bit as its not his own thing....

but PROPS!

I've been waiting for a scd emu for a while now to play the good ol' sonic and lunar and stuff.

scd had some great no name games as it didn't really make a big impact.

Hey! PicoDrive was initially made for the DS! Give the DS some credit. Why is everyone so anti-nintendo lately?!

Can anyone say "Night Trap"? *snort* sorry I can't keep a straight face. That game SUCKED! Anyhow, Sega Saturn shouldn't be TOO far now, right? I mean the Saturn wasn't much more powerful than the Sega CD. I mean, if we can emulate PS1 and N64, then we can emulate Saturn. I hopes. Yes I does.

Don't be a fanboy iamback, I love Nintendo as much as the next guy, but even the DS version was a port of the Pocket PC Version.

Wow man.

First off thanks for hosting this file QJ.net. Thanks notaz this release is emmaculate, thanks for making a decent GUI too makes and breaks an emu if you ask me.

I cant believe how nice this runs. I mean we all expect a lot more from our hardware but after 3-4 years without a decent genesis emulator you begin to loose faith that anyone has any interest at all.

Audio is great too. Not perfect but much better than a lot of other smd emus ive used.

THANKS THANKS THANKS! This first release owns all other emus so far. GOOD JOB!

The Saturn used some special chips that were very complicated to develop for and... Yes they are also very hard to emulate. Even the standard PC has trouble emulating it. I would say no, it's not close and has never been.

So far, I love this thing! Just love it!

Have to tweak it to get Sonic CD runnin', both other than that, PURE PSP gold.

If it has suppoer for 32X games, then I would REALLY worship you as the new Jesus Christ. (Just kiddin', DA is the Jesus of the PSP, but I would still love you nonetheless.)

omigosh... You're absolutely right! The DS version WAS a port... Oh no. I hope I'm not really a fanboy! That'd be one of my worst nightmares (OK, maybe my second worse nightmare. The first would be if I found that I was a queer ;P). But, granted, the only reason I thought that the DS version of Pico was the original was because when I looked for "nintendo DS emulators" on google, it took me to a download page for PicoDs without describing it as a port. So, I grew accustomed to it as being a DS only emulator.

I mean, take a poll here and ask people "What system was Daedalus, the Nintendo 64 emulator, designed for?" And I bet 8/10 people will reply "The PSP, doofus!". The other 2/10 people will immediately shout out the correct response: The PC. So, I guess I'm not a fanboy after all. I hope. :)

Two things.

a. Did you get that (unregistered) idea from me? If so, I guess that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", so thanks :P

b. As for the reply, thanks for telling me about the Sega Saturn's complications. I knew that the PC was bad at emulating it, but I just assumed that no one cared enough about it to continue work on emulation (Kind of how the DreamCast emulator isn't being developed anymore, to the best of my knowledge). Kewl, and thanks again, lol(unregistere d).

Right... You do realize that there's only one person who could even come remotely close to being the "next Jesus", and that'd be Adam... Because Adam is the only other human who didn't have a father. Granted, Adam wins hands down, because he didn't have a mother either. PWNED @ ZeroGiga! Also, why would you worship Jesus or even DA for that matter? Being an awesome programmer, even one as talented as DA, nor being able to do miracles (with God's permission), such as the ones that Jesus did, doesn't entail being worshipped. Nay, only God is worthy of worship, and don't you forget that! Anyhoo... Thanks for this emulator. I haven't tried it yet, but I've read comments that it pwns DGen, so I guess this'll now be my new use for my PSP. Unlike the other noobs here, I don't use my PSP for piracy. Nay, I use my PSP to play Shinobi 3. Ha ha...

Even though I've beaten it like 5 times already :P

# "PicoDrive" VS. "DGEN v1.70"Assist Correcter 2007-11-19 01:00
First sorry bad english. I want to thanks Enrico S. to this great emulator. Now then, I find something that perhaps can be able to fix. If we play game "Batman - Sunsoft 1991" to "DGEN v1.70" and compare it to "PicoDrive", we see the Batman looks better to DGEN emu. PicoDrive emu Batman and some characters looks sometimes half invisible and rain too. This is just one thing what I really want it someway "put in order". See ya!

Now I get it! The Batman looks better because DGEN v1.70 can change the "Palette mode". I play games with "High Brightness" because they looks better then. PicoDrive must come to "Palette mode" too!

You forgot to mention that Daedalus since then has been improved to the point that Many of the optimizations only run on the PSP. Take the Media Engine plans for example, Similar to a computer with a 2-core processor but, not quite the same since this one needs quite a bit of MIPS code in order to be implemented.

I don't know but, probably. I just remember seeing someone in the early days of registration with an "unregistered" tag. Also, since the character limit seems to be quite high I decided to baffle some curious people too :]
