Capcom CPS2

The juggernaut of a coder known only to homebrewers as NJ has released a new version of his CPS2 emulator for the PSP today, as well as posting some new information on his website for for TIFF loader users (those who are using the eLoader).

Rumors had it that NJ is not in fact a real person and that he is actually the most advanced supercomputer in the world. That would certainly explain how he manages to get through releases; after all he only updated this emulator yesterday. All we know is that he pumps out some amazing emulators, updating his CPS2 emulator beta today to address some pallete issues. Here's the changelog:
  • Made a fix for a new problem that occurred in some games due to a change in the palette processing. There are no changes other than the palette. Even the state save data can be used exactly as it is from the beta version.
Here's the information that NJ posted for eLoader users, so if you've been having issues when loading the emulator with a TIFF loader then check this out:

I forgot to add this to readme_cps2.txt, but when using this under the TIFF loader, please add the text below to the appropriate file. When added to the GTA loader, memory decreases so please don't add it to that version. If you already added this portion for text 5/beta, then all you need to do is change [CPS2PSP_3ccaece6] and the ebootname in the first line.
The value in the first line can be determined through the EBOOT_signature.exe program that is included with eLoader 0.98.

[CPS2PSP_3ccaece6]

Can you use unmodified MAME roms or do you have to convert them to something else? This emulator looks great. It seems the only thing left to add is 2 player ad hoc!

This emulates cps2 hardware, sf2, final fight, etc. Use google and type in cps2 games to get a list.

As far as the roms go, you get the roms, use the Conversion tool it comes with and it will create another zip file in the cache folder. You get that/those zips and put them in your psp's cache folder of the emulator.

I thought the last release was bug free? :P

I'm not trashing the emulator at all, but no emulator is truly bug free and it botheres me that you guys are so inexperienced to say that.

The emu runs great, full speed on most games. The only wierd that about this emu is that, on my FW2.60 PSP, this is the only homebrew that goes to the PSP intro movie when clicked on in the memory stick menu under the games catagory (you know where you can see the corrupted icons, the memory stick game folder is under the UMD icon when you have a UMD in the drive). It loads up to the PSP intro, then the PSP turns off, all other homebrew gives a "data is corrupted, cannot start game" kind of messege, but not CPS2. I guess this is how the 1.5 guys feel when they start thier homebrew, too bad it dosen't work.

Using the TIFF exploit, I would say games up to 10mb can be run, any higher then that, and you'll need GTA, or a 1.5 PSP.

@ #14: Moron!

This looks great, can't wait to get home and test it...

And if you're too thick to get this to work; google, read and do some work your fu**ing self, stop throwing ***** at a hard-working coder... This is work-in-progress, it's not some $50 piece of software you bought at a store... If this is to hard for you, maybe homebrews isn't for you?

# homebrew (emulator) helpGuest 2006-09-12 04:54
question--on homebrew--I always get data is corrupted, cannot start game...i have tried a few emulators (gb and gbc and gba and another) and they are proven emulators, but when I try to run them from the memory stick, I get "data is corrupted" message...agrrrhhh~!!! running 1.5 with devhook 2.71.

Here, this is how I got mine to work. (Props to who ever I borrowed this from, you are the man)

Good luck to getting it to work!

Examples.........To Guide You

You Download This File

Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes (Euro 980112)

-mvsc

Make a Cache File out of it, looks like this "mvsc_cache" use the CPS2 Converter to do this Process. As it is creating the Cache file it will reach a point when it will say “Create Cache…” . Simply wait a few minutes and it will begain to create the file. When it is finished it will put the cache in the cache folder within the converter file. Copy your new cache files and place them in the other cache folder. Basically, this means take the cache files out of the folder and put them in the other.

You Now Download This File

Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes (US 980123)

-mvscu

Put Both "mvsc" & "mvscu" in the same Rom Folder and Put the "mvsc_cache" in the cache folder, your game shound now start. You Will see a gray text Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes and a White Text of that game. The White one works, do not erase the the gray one, you need both files.

-Go to this website:

http://www.mameworld.net/maws/

then on the left bottom, you'll see "driver" go there and look for "cps2.c"

Oh and The Files are called Parent & Clone

Example:

-Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes (Euro 980112) [Parent File]

-Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes (US 980123) [Clone File]

All You Need To Do Is Put the Parent and Clone File in the same Rom Folder to make the Game work.

Another Example:

-Parent File [MUST PUT THIS IN THE ROM FOLDER AT ALL TIMES]

Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes (Euro 980112)

-Clone File [Choose Anyone of these clones to put in with the Parent File inside the Rom Folder]

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Asia 980112)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Asia 980123)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Brazil 980123)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Hispanic 980123)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Japan 980112)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Japan 980123)

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (US 980123)
